Delightful family guesthouse with ample rooms and beautiful Balinese courtyard. Location was strategic and superb: it was in the city center - shops, cafes, restaurants and temples are just outside the entrance and within walking distance to major attractions . Once you enter the guesthouse, you step away from the noise and bustle of the city and enter into peaceful and quiet location. My room was at the groundfloor with a lovely outdoor verandah with a sitting area facing the pool and near a garden with a fish pond full of colourful fish. I enjoyed the verandah during early mornings reading a book before the heat and watching the rain fall down in the afternoon. Inside was a large double bed with bedside tables, a dresser with mirror, a large wardrobe and a small minibar fridge and A/C. The room had a small bathroom with a shower, a basin and a toilet with towels and amenities (toothbrush/toothpast, soap, shampoo and towels). The floors are tiled which is ideal for the weather and new water bottles were provided each day. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Umbrellas were provided in each room for guest use. Their breakfast was a treat: strong Balinese coffee or tea, fresh fruit juice and a selection of Indonesian nasi goreng or Western breakfast options (toast and multiple eggs options or pancakes). The nasi goreng had the perfect balance of sweetness and umami, accompanied by fresh slices of cucumber and a fried egg, the omelet came with two slices of toast (no crusts) and had thin capsicum and onion slices. It was a lovely oasis in the midst of the city center.

No complaints. A suggestion would be a a few extra hooks in the bathroom near the sink basin to hang items away from the shower towel racks.

Despite its extraordinarily central location, it was a serene & peaceful oasis. The staff were very helpful & accommodating. The closeness to the Palace, market & great eateries all around was a bonus & the traditional architecture & buildings & family temple at the front of the property are a feature we really appreciated. As mature travellers, we appreciated the opportunity to sometimes use the easy alternative access from Jalan Hanoman rather than the usual steps to the impressively carved & painted entry. The property & the surrounding gardens within the compound were meticulously cared for. I have Coeliac Disease & the lovely young men preparing our breakfast took great care to ensure my breakfast was Gluten Free & safe for me. We were so pleased that we chose to stay at Sumantra Guest House & would not hesitate to return again.

Absolutely nothing!

Great location in the center of Ubud. The staff is very nice and helpful and the room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. I stayed there for about three weeks while I was doing a yoga teacher training nearby and it was perfect for what I needed!

A little buggy sometimes but most places around here are. Also there was sometimes construction that was loud but shouldn’t be a problem if you’re out and about during the day. Overall was great and very worth the price!

This place exceeded expectations – it’s even better than the pictures! Everything is very clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is lovely, with a quiet location that’s perfect for relaxing. The breakfast is simple but consistently delicious, and I always enjoyed starting my day with it.

The value for money is amazing, especially for travelers familiar with Asia, where humidity can be a challenge. My only suggestion for improvement would be to change towels more frequently, as the damp weather can sometimes cause them to retain a smell, even when left out to dry. However, I understand this is a tough issue to manage in such a climate. Other than that small detail, I had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this place!

Like: 1. Excellent loaction - in the centre and close to everything but not noisy at all. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. It's a peaceful & quiet place once you stepped into this guest house. 2. Very clean and spacious room with good wifi. 3. Have all amenities you need which includes in-room safety box, toiletries, umbrella (very useful during rainy season), etc. 4. Staffs and the owner Mr. Sumantra are all very polite and helpful. We have an air con problem in our room on the first day, Mr. Sumantra quickly arranged us to change to another room. 5. Beautiful plants inside the guest house and they even have a koi pool, so nice to hear the sound of running water everyday. 6. Simple basic but yummy breakfast. 7. Swimming pool is clean and not too small. 8. The value of this guest house is definitely more than what you've paid for. I will surely stay at Sumantra House again next time I visit Ubud. It's a hidden gem!

Can't think of anything I don't like.

The guesthouse is in a great location, right in the centre of Ubud and walking distance to the palace, markets and several temples. We were spoilt for choice with the number of beautiful restaurants around us. Although we were on a very busy street, the sound of the street disappears as soon as you enter the guesthouse courtyard. The facility was beautiful, had many traditional attributes, and the bedrooms were large. The swimming pool was small, more of a plunge pool, but that's all we needed to relax after a hot day sightseeing. Breakfast was served promptly and very tasty. The guesthouse organised laundry for us and it was returned the next day, clean and pressed for a very reasonable price. Staff were very gracious and hospitable.

We booked three rooms for our family. The bathrooms were all on the small side, however two of the bathrooms were so tiny that you could practically sit on the toilet and take a shower. The bathrooms could use a bit of an update as they were looking worn. Our bedroom also had a bit of a musty smell. Sheets and towels were clean, but looking a bit worn as well.

Staff excellent, location excellent. Owner very accommodating, remembered that I stayed at his property 1 year ago. Personal touches from the staff is excellent! A quiet oasis despite it being in the central part of Ubud. Close to the market, monkey forest, second stay here in a row, will definitely be coming back same time next year !! Also breakfast is wholesome, great value for money. !!

Raining season so slight damp smell in bathroom, but that is me just being picky. To be honest the owner kindly offered me to swap rooms, so as I've said, very accommodating owner and staff !

Excellent location in central Ubud close to museums, temples, restaurants, and shops. Very quiet rooms with good AC cleaned daily that are a welcome reprieve from the hustle and bustle outside. It was interesting to stay in a family compound and get to see some of their religious practices and home life. Free breakfast served 8-10am, photo shown of sample breakfast.

There was an unpleasant odor and ants in the bathroom, although overall the room was still comfortable and on par with other 3 star hotels in the area.

The owners were extremely helpful and kind. I left behind an adapter and they loaned me one and were very responsive when I needed help with the Internet and had questions about the area. The location is right in the center of Ubud close to everything. Breakfast was tasty, the property is quiet and peaceful. The hotel is simple, but had all the necessities, hairdryer, toiletries, safe, fridge lots of power outlets

The shower head in my room could do with a descale to make it flow properly. But it was fine, the water was hot and plentiful.

The location of the apartment is excellent—right in the city center and very close to many restaurants, cafés, and souvenir shops. I loved the hotel vibe! It’s a small business, and you can truly feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere—everyone is super nice and friendly. The room was very clean and cozy, and the breakfast in the morning was lovely, served in a beautiful garden next to the swimming pool. Thank you so much—I really enjoyed my time there!
