Convenient location for Downtown (although downtown itself isn't the nicest part of Portland). Clean and Quiet. Large comfortable bed. They were the only hotel we stayed with that replied to a question I had via Booking, and were happy for me to get mail sent to the hotel, which proved to be extremely useful and much appriciated.

The nextdoor El Gaucho steakhouse has a Cigar lounge and as a result there was a slight smell of cigar in the reception. Breakfast was slightly disappointing and basic, there were much better option elsewhere in Portland

One of the best places to stay in PDX. Enjoyed the lobby common area and our room was perfect for the short time spent. Walking distance to fun eating and shopping places in the Downtown area.

The Valet Parking charge was totally unexpected($50/night) and we just went with it due to our short stay. We were there about 12 hours. Similar to the comments regarding breakfast services, the valet charges should be communicated at the time of booking. We would have found an alternative. We just received an ad bill early Saturday morning.

Great location. Food trucks, coffee, music venues all very short walking distance, parking lot was very secure. We had a booking date mix up and every staff member we spoke to while fixing it was incredibly friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. Even though I booked through a 3rd party they helped every step of the way. I would definitely stay again just because of how exceptional the staff was.

The only downside was the thin walls (expected in an older building.) So we were woken up several times because of street traffic, a neighbor talking loudly on their phone, and people talking in the halls. The sound really travels. So if you are a light sleeper pack earplugs just in case. We called front desk about the especially loud neighbor and it was remedied very quickly.

The history of the hotel and the Historic Stairwell with the original marble floors and the photos of Portland's history is wonderful. The lobby with the walnut pillars and walls and crystal chandeliers is beautiful. The room and bedding was quite comfortable and very clean. I also like that we were provided two free bottles of water. Might not be much but not every hotel even offers that for free anymore.

$49 parking is a lot but I think that is pretty standard for Portland. The valets were very nice and pretty quick to bring the card around.

Thank you very much for getting us a room, motel 6 CANCELED our reserved room at midnight and left us with no choice but to spend a bit more to stay here but they were amazingly accommodating and understanding that we had children and no where else to stay.

There is NOTHING I DIDNT LIKE OR NOTHIN BAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL PLACE Very nice staff rooms atmosphere and above all they didn't give away our room and reservations at anytime like motel 6 did. PET FRIENDLY TOO

The history and old world charm.

I had to request a clean top blanket for the bed because there was so much caked on mud in the shag. The new remodeled room already had stains on the carpet . There is no microwave to warm up leftovers nor is there hot water for bath/shower. it's slightly warm at best. El Gaucho's restaurant connected to the building is one of the finest restaurants in Oregon!

The Benson is an historical building with original design elements in tact. Grand, high ceilings. Lots of beautiful woodwork & ceiling moldings & detail. Grand fire place. The place was still decorated for Christmas & was just gorgeous. The lobby & bar area were places you wanted to hang out in. Just wonderful!

The room was spacious - incredibly roomy. Bed was comfy and the couch was too. But there are 2 chairs in the room that sit basically like office chairs - you wouldn't spend any more time on them then to put on your shoes. Those could be improved. And the lack of any other furniture in the room was odd. It felt like a half decorated room. Not minimalism on purpose, but like someone didn't finish which is such an odd opposition to the grandeur of the lobby & beautiful details in the main parts of the hotel.

The hidden historical photography tour in the old stairwell was amazing. Beautiful historical hotel with great service. Breakfast was nice with choices. Staff was excellent.

We checked in on the day the world had the Microsoft meltdown so the check-in was tricky. We got a nice room on top floor and when we went there it was occupied. Pretty awkward. Not their fault so no big deal and staff handled it very well.

It’s one of the oldest hotels in the city. So there’s all the handcrafted details that are just waiting for you to discover. The staff were all very friendly. The location is right in the heart of Portland. So everything that you want to do is nearby.

The valet lost our car keys. It’s in the heart of downtown Portland, so there are always people making noise or homeless people causing problems.

Our 1st room the air conditioner was not working so they readily upgraded us to a room across the hall from where we started. I needed to use business office computer which was not online with the internet. Security personnel worked with manager on duty, contacted appropriate IT services, explained to me what the problem was and got the computer up and running in less than 1 hour.

We were in a large group and breakfast was included with the trip daily and dinner on the last day. Breakfast was fair overall. Not a lot of fresh choices, however the service was excellent when we asked for additional items not on the buffet line. Dinner was mediocre.
