We stayed at Hotel University in Bologna and overall had a good experience. The rooms are simple but equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent – very close to the city center, within walking distance of the main attractions and plenty of restaurants, which made exploring the city really convenient. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. The only downside was the breakfast, which was quite basic and not very special. Still, for the value and location, it’s a solid choice if you’re visiting Bologna.

When booking a hotel, I have three key requirements: central location, cleanliness, and a comfortable bed—and Hotel University delivered on all three. The room was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and the overall experience was great. Additionally, the staff were consistently friendly and helpful, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. If you're looking for a well-located, clean, and comfortable place to stay in Bologna, this hotel is definitely worth it!

One thing to note—the shower space is quite narrow, but this seems to be a common issue in many Italian hotels. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for me, but something to keep in mind if you prefer more spacious bathrooms. Also the pillows were on the thinner side, which some guests might find uncomfortable, but there were plenty available, so I stacked a few to reach the comfort level I’m used to.

The place is a decent 3-star hotel with a reception, so you do not have to inform about the precise time of your arrival, which can be of help in situations with late or cancelled trains to the city. The hotel is located in the area popular with students, so you will find many osterias, bars and restaurants with reasonable prices. The breakfast was tasty and sufficient, the lady in the basement breakfast room was happy to bring you another cup of cappuccino. Everyone was smiley and friendly.

Comfortable one night stay before flight home. We had a late flight and staff stored our bags and allowed us to relax on the couches in lounge. Air con worked well and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom is a bit outdated but functional. Breakfast was offered (be sure to clarify if included in your reservation) and they had gluten free options too. Good location.

A bit dated but good value. A little noisy outside at night but we use a white noise app on our phone that helps blocks any disturbances of sleep.

Liked the location, the fact that it was small and cosy, that it was quiet and welcoming and that I had heat - as I travelled in December, so quite cold outside. The place was also easy to find, on foot, from the bus stop, so all the better. All in all, it's a nice stay if you have a couple of days or a little over and if you're looking for a nice, quiet, cosy place to rest your head.

Great location to all the main attractions in Bologna! The room was clean. Air con in the room which was great. About 20 min walk to the train station. Bed was comfortable and I appreciated the extra pillows in the closet. My room also had a small fridge and kettle.

When you enter the stairwell to go up to the room, the hotel felt hot and stuffy. You could also hear some outside noises but this is probably unavoidable in a busy city like Bologna

The room for three persons had enough space, it was very clean and quiet, air conditioning functioning perfectly, which was a big help during the time we were in Bologna. There are several nice restaurants nearby and the city centre, where major touristic points are located, is only a couple of minutes away. The staff was kind and helpful, called our taxi to the airport and gave restaurants recommendations.

The location was perfect, being easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see in the city. The hotel accepts pets, and we were especially impressed at how welcoming and kind all the staff were to our dog. In fact, in every respect, all the staff were excellent. Having the secure underground parking was a real bonus and the breakfast was superb.

I honestly cannot find fault with this hotel.

Location is great.. 15 min. Walking distance to Bologna Centrale which is the transportation hub of north Italy and 7 min. Walking distance to the heart of Bologna. The room was clean and comfortable.. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly...

Breakfast was good but it needs more variety. Each person has only one cup of coffee or tea is not acceptable :(( maybe it's not a rule of the hotel, but the lady who served us drinks had said that it's the way and this could be her own opinion.. however we had to deal with her anyway..

I was amazed by the staff always so nice and helpful, the hotel cleanliness, location, comfort, and value for money. Could not have chosen a better place. When I first booked, I thought this could have been a hotel mainly designed for students, but not at all. It is perfect for adults who are looking for a quiet stay. Definitely recommend! I believe the hotel should be a 4 rather than 3 stars.
