We've stayed here before and love the central location! If you're lucky, you might get the room overlooking the canal (as I did the first time). The staff are friendly and the breakfast is very good.

This time, the water pressure was low, and the water temperature wavered between hot and cold, so we couldn't shower properly after a long trip. Also the shower wasn't very clean. I wouldn't usually mention either issue, but combined I felt a little disappointed given the room rate and time of year. It's a pity because I have a very positive memory of our first stay at this hotel. Hopefully this time was just a one-off issue.

Good distance from both train station (~15min walk) and Piazza Maggiore (~8min). Elegant room, spacey bathroom, clean, suffient breakfast for the price (5 euro) for hard-boiled eggs, croissants, watermelon, yoghurt, cereals, barista-machine-made cappuccino, juice, and some cheese and ham. Also two types of bread (one white, and one darker color).

The door to the room is not soundproof so in my opinion it lets through maybe 7/10 of the sound on the other side. The walls seem to be a little better insulated soundwise though. AC-fan did make a high pitch sound when turned up to moderate to high speed - but on low speed it was quiet.

The location of Il Canale is amazing, very much near the old town centre and right at the big shopping street but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The staff was very friendly and the decor of the hotel is very nice. We had a 3-person room with air conditioning which was very nice and spacious enough to walk around with 3 people in there. The beds were comfortable, perhaps a bit hard for some. The bathroom is great with warm water and enough space to move in.

The only aspect we did not love was the breakfast. The selection is fine, but with so many great options outdoors I'd recommend to skip the breakfast unless you're dead set on having yoghurt and cereals. Cannoli, great coffee, and coffee pastries can be found in most cafe's around the area.

Front desk staff was responsive and very helpful. Great location, walking distance to main attractions, to bus and train station. Hotel a bit dated, but charming. The back of the hotel faces the canal, which makes it interesting. Has an elevator, which is a plus when carrying luggage to upper floors. The room was spacious and had a few antique furniture pieces and a small fridge with 2 bottles of water .Really appreciate finding water after a journey. The bath is updated and a good size. Breakfast has hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, limited fruit, sweet yogurt , croissants, and some individually wrapped commercial sweets. They will make you a coffee of your preference at the bar.

The beds were a bit uncomfortable. They could use a mattress topper to soften the bumps. It wasn't too bad for 1 night, but I would prefer more comfy beds for longer stays.

The location is perfect. The decoration and size of the room is very pleasant. The whole hotel is obviously well taken care of. The manager provided good tip for restaurant and helped with car permit for driving within city. It's definitely perfect choice for the value.

Maybe the breakfast is a little on the plain side. Especially lack of great coffee. But that's a very small minus can be overlooked.

The reception personnel was super friendly and helpful. Very attentive. I also liked that it was just a few steps of the via dell Independenza and the Piazzo Maggiore. One can walk everywhere and, as I was attending the Children's Book Fair, it was also only a few minutes away from the bus stop for the bus 28.

My room was on the ground floor and the cleaning staff (?), some personnel who had to use the lift, was very noisy before 7am. Also, at night, at reception they had a very loud conversation outside my door, so that I had to tell them to quiet down.

The location is superb! So central for sightseeing, shopping, and eating. Only a 15 min walk from the train station with three young children and suitcases! An extremely warm welcome from all staff at the hotel. Great recommendations for family friendly restaurants. Very accommodating, even went and bought oat milk for my son at breakfast. We were encouraged to make use of the internal courtyard which we did for card games and as an extra space for the family to relax in. Superb space. Hotel and room were very clean. We felt safe staying here with the children. Air conditioning was enough to make the room a pleasant temp inside while it was 35+ outside. The room was easily large enough for all 5 of us and we slept very comfortably in the beds. If we return to Bologna we would not hesitate to return. The place is charming.

Nothing not to like.

Nice little hotel close to the station and the centre. The hotel is like a little retro museum. We stayed in the family room and it is big enough for a family of 4 for a short stay. The room was clean and even though it was a heatwave we were able to keep it cool. Close to lots of restaurants. I recommend Marsalino which is just a few meters away.

Everything was good.

Location was perfect in the historic old town, we could walk to all the main sights. Breakfast was basic but for only €5 excellent value for money. The hotel was in an old building which meant that it was a little quirky. We travelled with our daughter and partner who also felt that the hotel was very good and would recommend it to friends.

Nothing, the quirkiness, which might be called shabbiness by others suited us. We wanted a taste of old Bologna and that is exactly what we experienced.

Gorgeous, vintage-style room. I was only here for a night but would definitely recommend and would stay here again myself for longer. The guy on reception was so friendly and the place is also extremely central; right beside the “Little Venice” window canal attraction and a hub of gorgeous restaurants, including Donatello which does amazing bolognese! Breakfast in the hotel was also lovely and the staff at breakfast were so friendly.

Loved everything.
