We would recommend Hotel San Giorgio for a short stay in Bologna. The hotel accommodation offers affordability and functionality over luxury or extensive amenities. We chose the hotel primarily because of its location, a 10-minute walk to the Piazza Maggiore, and its overnight concierge service. Our room was large and whilst simply furnished, it came with a king-sized bed. It was clean, and the towels were changed every other day. The Hotel may not have a lounge bar or offer evening meals, however, facilities such as these were never needed as its location is fantastic with bars, a gelato parlour, quality Trattoria and Restaurants within a stone’s throw. A nice touch was the complimentary breakfast of croissants and coffee, which removed the need to leave the hotel in search of an early morning cuppa. Personally, as we were leaving early in the morning, we preferred a hotel that could organise a taxi for us, and this was no problem at all to arrange and arrive within five minutes of being ordered. We had heard that some of the Airbnb or other apartments did not allow you to leave before 8 am because of the noise that could be caused by luggage being trundled along the historic streets. This was not a problem with this Hotel. Would we go back to Bologna? Yes, most certainly. Would we stay at the Hotel San Giorgio? Yes, and we intend to and we look forward to meeting the friendly staff again who made our stay so pleasant. Grazie mille

The only negative comment about our room was that its air-conditioning hadn’t been turned on yet. Whilst May temperatures were warm enough for us Brits, it wasn’t warm enough for Bolognans who were still wearing winter coats and scarves when walking around in the sunshine. However, we found the room warm on the night, and whilst the windows did open, noise from the street and in particular conversations from the popular bar opposite would prevent most people sleeping with the window open.

I am very happy with my experience at this hotel and would recommend it for short visits. The room was large and comfortable and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. It also had a great location close to the city center and not too far from the train station.

Please be aware that the shower (at least in our room), while fine and fully functional, may not be ideal for larger bodied individuals. It was a square shower stall that definitely measured less that a meter (maybe 70cm?) and would be difficult, even impossible to access, for larger people. Also, you have to place your soaps on the floor, so even if you do fit inside, bending down to pick up your things could be difficult for certain people. Lastly, it is an old building with old plumbing, and this often made the bathroom quite stinky, so keeping the door closed was necessary.

The location is perfect. You can walk to everywhere you want to see in Bologna. When you get tired, you have the chance to go back to the hotel and rest, it is very close to everywhere. A complete price performance hotel.

Breakfast was given as a gift because I am a booking genius, if I had bought it, it would have been really disappointing. A very inadequate breakfast, it needs to be diversified. The room needs to be renovated, both the room and the furniture are very old. It is not good to stay in such old conditions in such a central place.

Location is fantastic! Walking distance to everything in the historic center, and 15 mins from the main train station. Rooms were spotlessly clean and staff were all friendly and welcoming.

Shower was a little snug, so if you're above average build you might struggle if you get our room. Noisy outside at all hours, there's lots of bars nearby but it was the glass bottle recycling that was a surprise - but double glazing did the trick to keep the noise out!

The location was fantastic, everywhere I wanted to go was no more than 30 mins walk away, and most things were much closer. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast was simple but good coffee and a good selection of items. The room was small but had everything I needed. The room also had aircon, which was crucial during the heatwave that Bologna experienced while I visited!

The shower was quite small with not a lot of room to manoeuvre, so it would be a challenge for those with limited mobility. The WiFi was a bit patchy but worked well enough!

The location was perfect to visit the city, walking distance from everything. The personnel was really friendly, and the room was very spacious.

There was a very bad smell in bathroom. It's a very basic (but very spacious!) room, which is totally fine, but felt a bit overpriced. However, all of Bologna is overpriced, so in line with other prices surrounding the venue, it was good value. The location is worth it. The room was a bit noisy though from the street, but at night (Friday night) it was pretty quiet so we had no trouble sleeping.

The staff working the desk is extremely friendly and helpful. I received some excellent recommendations from both Santino and Leo. Excellent location, a reasonable walk from the central train station and very close to the center of the city. Many restaurants in the neighborhood.

The showers are probably the smallest I’ve ever experienced, but I know fitting everything into a single room can be a challenge.

The property was very well located, close to the city centre and train station - makes it very convenient for travellers wishing to take day trips out of Bologna. The staff were lovely, very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again!

My only complaint is its proximity to a busy restaurant area that made it a bit noisy at nighttime. However, this would only be a problem in summer when the window needs to be open for circulation.

The location is perfect: close to the railway station and the historical center. There are many restaurants nearby. The staff was perfect and helpful. A small breakfast is included in the price.

The room was very noisy. The surrounding bars and restaurants work until 2 AM, so we had to sleep with the window closed and the air conditioning on. The bathroom was too small—about 0.75x0,75.

Bedroom was small but comfortable, extra pillow always a pus. Bathroom was small but perfect for one. I hadn't realised there was a breakfast included. It was just a croissant and coffee, so I was pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed. Location was great, its right in the centre.

The heat in the room was a little intense, I had to open a window to regulate the temperature and there were some roadworks outside (not the fault of the hotel) which obviously got louder.
