Hotel has an "antique atmosphere" and only stairs to the upper floors. Room was comfortable, quiet if you close the windows, bed was good. Television and wifi was working, there was a fridge in the room. Location is the best, right in the old centre of Catania next to Piazza del Duomo, 2 minutes walking to the fish market and 5 minutes walking to Borsellino bus station to take Alibus to the airport (buy ticket on the bus) or Interbus to Syracusa (buy ticket at the ticket office). Eateries, bars, shops and night life are all around. Other attractions such as Castello Ursino and the Greco-Roman Antique Theater are only 5-10 minutes walking away.

This is a comfortable and convenient hotel in a great location with a great price. There are a few downsides, but I'd guess for most the location and price are enough to make up for the downsides. It is literally right on Piazza del Duomo, so could hardly be more central. Staff are friendly, and rooms are comfortable and clean.

The rooms seem a bit variable in quality. Rooms facing onto the square seem spacious, airy, and comfortable. I had a room facing onto the (rather dingy) central courtyard, which was rather odd shaped and not as airy -- it was still perfectly comfortable and serviceable though.

We had a brilliant time here in Catania. Hotel room was clean and comfortable. Only saw the guys at reception desk when we popped in and out. No problems. Hotel is in a great location right on Elephant piazza, with tons of restaurants nearby . Walking distance to bus station where we took various busses to different parts of island. Would definitely book this hotel again if we return to Scicily.

Only gripe was coffee and tea bags wasn't topped up. It was no big deal. I'm sure I paid for breakfast but was told by man at reception, no breakfast is served in hotel. Again no big deal with plenty choices nearby.

The location could not be beat. The room was in the center of the historic part of town, our balcony literally overlooked the central plaza. The room was simple but lovely - old palace style. We only stayed one night, we came straight from the airport after a multi-leg flight, and were exhausted. A lovely man was there late into the night and checked us in. It was close to midnight but people were out on the streets, we were able to get food, walk around. And come morning, we were in the heart of the city with all the sights at our doorstep.

Reviews are all about expectations, and so none of these are negatives, just information for people to understand the reality of what to expect. The building is old, in a decaying grace kind of way. It is not a modern luxury hotel, so this should not be expected. The room is relatively simple, but had all that we needed. The balcony overlooks the plaza one of the highlights of the hotel!), so in the morning there are lots of people outside. I wear earplugs so noise doesn't bother me, but if you're sensitive to noise, you should be aware and come prepared. I loved this place and would absolutely stay again.

What a wonderful view of the Duomo and the Elephant Statue from our little balcony! It poured our first day and the helpful and friendly staff at the reception kindly lent me his umbrella. There are several wonderful Sicilian restaurants within 2 blocks. Our favorite was the Antica Sicila. The room was "old Catania", charming, quiet at night and basic. A good value and a wonderful location.The beds we're comfortable and the bathroom clean with a good shower. We would definitely stay again.

The walk up to the second floor with backpack was a bit challenging for two older travellers. The room's little fridge was unusable since it smelled quite bad.

Incredible location just in front of the Duomo in the heart of the centro storico, in a quiet pedastrian street. Premises are old but clean and correct.

As some old buildings, it has some charm but some inconvenients, too, as the lack of elevator.

I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the room was, especially since it is RIGHT NEXT TO the Duomo. Amazing location! Unbeatable view right over the piazza to the cathedral. It was an easy walk to the bus station to go to Palermo too. The staff was very friendly and kind and helpful, both the front desk staff and the cleaning staff I encountered were very kind and made me feel welcome and comfortable. Wifi was good. Beds super comfy. The room was large and clean and smelled nice and again, SO quiet! I can't imagine going anywhere else when I return to Catania.

i loved the central location, right on the main square. From there it was a short walk on the main shopping street to view Mt Etna, which was interesting at the time. I hired a car to go to the Villa Romana del Casale: the premises of the company (Budget) were at the Port of Catania, which reduced the need to drive in city streets. The distance to the company was not a long walk.

No lift, but staff carried my luggage up for me, so that was fine.

The renovated bathroom was a pleasant surprise. I had read in previous reviews that the air conditioning was old, but in my room, it was new. Everyone at the reception was very polite, smiling, and eager to help. This alone would make me consider staying here again. The location is amazing! It is situated right in front of the Catania Cathedral. Everything you need is within walking distance, and the main attractions of the city are right at your doorstep. Additionally, it is in a safe area, making it comfortable to walk around even at night!

The bed and pillows were among the most uncomfortable I've encountered. Additionally, the soundproofing in the room was poor, and the hotel generally had an unpleasant smell (as if someone was frying food nearby). Apart from the renovated bathroom, the rest of the room was old.

the hotel is charming and quirky in a brilliant position, right on the edge of the main piazza with a view of the cathedral. there are lovely cafes and restaurants steps away, along with a brilliant gelato shop for the passegiata in the evening, and a short stroll to the markets. The staff were very helpful, and it has been recently renovated in a smart, yet simple manner. our room was very spacious. This 200 year old hotel retains its faded grandeur as it was once a stop of The Grand Tour.

there is no lift, but I didn't mind as a young man carried our bags up.
