We only stayed one night in Matera, but honestly we should have stayed longer in this beautiful Hotel. The hotel has the most stunning view – when we arrived and saw it for the first time, we were blown away. And the best part? You also get to enjoy breakfast with that same view! The location is perfect for exploring the city on foot. Simone gave us such a warm welcome, and the whole team was super attentive. Our room was huge, spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. They even helped us with parking, pointing us to a spot just 100 meters away – super easy. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

The Junior Suite—Caves was amazing. Compared to typical tiny, tiny typical European rooms, this one was 2-3 times the size of rooms we’ve stayed. The room is a cave that people actually lived in but, with all the appropriate updates. It has a private gated entry. The view outside the gate is amazing—overlooking Sassi Caveoso—the oldest section of the city. Staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.

Parking is a challenge. The road is one way so Park up the hill about 100 meters before the hotel. It’s an underground parking garage. Access may be a little tough the first time but the views make it worth the trouble.

I especially liked the terrace where I breakfasted each morning, and enjoyed a nightcap each evening, it has a fabulous view of Matera that I never tired of. The staff were friendly and efficient, the room lovely, the breakfast great. The hotel is situated just a short easy walk from the centre, slightly hilly. For seeing Matera, I thoroughly recommend Oltre L'Arte which offers for E25 a guided tour of a 'cul de sac' of 5 cave houses with a complete and fascinating history of Matera with film as well as live guide (it's where I started), plus (unguided and in your own timing) access to 3 rock churches, a bread museum, a cistern and stone churches, all very well curated and very informative.

Excellent location in historic Matera, wonderful views across Sassi area from guest outside balcony area. Good quality continental breakfast provided and afternoon Aperol Spritz was enjoyed with Matera backdrop. Large room and help with luggage to third floor provided by helpful staff who had excellent English speaking skills (unfortunately our Italian was very basic!). Convenient undercover/secure parking at municipal car park only 300m away was a bonus in providing close access to hotel.

The location of the hostel is very convenient, located in the center of the old city, it is very convenient to visit the old city on foot, a full breakfast, a wide variety of fruits, very fresh, the landlord is very kind，The handsome guy at the front desk is very enthusiastic,When we checked in, we were guided to set foot on the viewing platform and had a panoramic view of Matella. We were amazing, all our expectations were met, and it was so beautiful!and patiently answer our questions, enthusiastically help us book taxi and bus tickets, and will choose this excellent hostel next time.

We arrived in Matera by Private Car and were able to drive and arrive right outside the hotel, no issues during the day around 2-4pm parking (The area becomes a closed off restricted zone at 8.30pm, to midnight) an overnight parking garage is 100 metres up the road, easy to get in, use and get out) Well what can we say, met at reception by the very excellent english speaker David who upgraded our room on request to a suite, and charged us a minimal fee, took our bags and showed us the procedure getting through a locked gate to our room and the terrace ! wow this is the VIEW you wanted right, James Bond fans, No time to die will love this view, its perfect you can do quite alot of walking around, but I used the car to drive around the narrow roads in Matera, got out on several occasions and took photos, the old caves are interesting as this is the 3rd oldest city in the world, goes back thousands of years, the staff at hotel were great, brought us drinks to the terrace, where we sat and watched the sunset, easy walk as well from the back of the hotel to the old town, lots of places to eat, drink etc, and a nice touch, David put a bottle of red wine in room, plus drinks in fridge at no extra cost, all in all what more can you ask for, great stay, and best view.... what I like about this hotel is that prior to arriving we received great emails in english telling us what to do where to go, with parking options - it was also clear and easy to follow best of luck, you will not be regret it, forgot to add breakfast in the morning was great, an Italian style offering, and even pizza, you name it they had it.

We could not find anything not to like....its that simple.

We stayed 1 night in an upper level room with a small terrace overlooking the street. The room is large. Bathroom adequate. Shower great. The staff is friendly and helpful. The terrace views are lovely day or night. Easy walking to restaurants. Nice choices at breakfast. Our girlfriend stayed in a cave room which looked cozy and comfortable as well. Re Matera: if you are not a big walker or don’t do stairs or hills or possibly slippery cobblestones get one or more taxi or tuk tuk phone numbers to take you places.

We had a very pleasant stay at Il Belvedere. The room was large and bedding comfortable. The bathroom was clean and shower strong and water temperature good. The staff was so very helpful with recommendations. Parking was close and easy to locate. The breakfast was generous and varied. I wished we had booked for three night instead of two. Special thanks to Antonello for his excellent counsel. This was a perfect location for sightseeing and dining. The views when the weather is warmer must be fabulous!

The elevator seems to have limits in terms of capacity.

Our recent stay at Il Belvedere totally exceeded our expectations. The view from the terrace, where we were lucky enough to enjoy breakfast in the Easter sunshine, was completely magical. Staff were very helpful and friendly, especially Simone and David who offered suggestions for meals and organised transport. Breakfast options were fantastic. And having upgraded our stay to a beautiful Cave room, we felt very lucky to experience such a memorable anniversary break in stunning Matera.

From the moment we arrived at reception to checkin the service provided by the hotel staff was excellent. The receptionist checking us in was welcoming and took extra time and care to show us to our room and explain the history of the "cave" rooms (as well as the facilities). The "grotto" room we had was spacious, atmospheric and very comfortable. The white washed wall with uplighting and minimalist decor created a romantic ambience- even the en-suite bathroom was pretty! Our bed was enormous and we slept very well! Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Basso was fabulous. There were lots of fresh local bread, pastries, cakes, cereals and fruit as well as cheese and cured meats. The cappuccinos were excellent too! We will definitely be back!

We couldn't have asked for more. Everything was lovely!
