We arrived in Matera by Private Car and were able to drive and arrive right outside the hotel, no issues during the day around 2-4pm parking (The area becomes a closed off restricted zone at 8.30pm, to midnight) an overnight parking garage is 100 metres up the road, easy to get in, use and get out) Well what can we say, met at reception by the very excellent english speaker David who upgraded our room on request to a suite, and charged us a minimal fee, took our bags and showed us the procedure getting through a locked gate to our room and the terrace ! wow this is the VIEW you wanted right, James Bond fans, No time to die will love this view, its perfect you can do quite alot of walking around, but I used the car to drive around the narrow roads in Matera, got out on several occasions and took photos, the old caves are interesting as this is the 3rd oldest city in the world, goes back thousands of years, the staff at hotel were great, brought us drinks to the terrace, where we sat and watched the sunset, easy walk as well from the back of the hotel to the old town, lots of places to eat, drink etc, and a nice touch, David put a bottle of red wine in room, plus drinks in fridge at no extra cost, all in all what more can you ask for, great stay, and best view.... what I like about this hotel is that prior to arriving we received great emails in english telling us what to do where to go, with parking options - it was also clear and easy to follow best of luck, you will not be regret it, forgot to add breakfast in the morning was great, an Italian style offering, and even pizza, you name it they had it.

We could not find anything not to like....its that simple.

We had a very pleasant stay at Il Belvedere. The room was large and bedding comfortable. The bathroom was clean and shower strong and water temperature good. The staff was so very helpful with recommendations. Parking was close and easy to locate. The breakfast was generous and varied. I wished we had booked for three night instead of two. Special thanks to Antonello for his excellent counsel. This was a perfect location for sightseeing and dining. The views when the weather is warmer must be fabulous!

The elevator seems to have limits in terms of capacity.

From the moment we arrived at reception to checkin the service provided by the hotel staff was excellent. The receptionist checking us in was welcoming and took extra time and care to show us to our room and explain the history of the "cave" rooms (as well as the facilities). The "grotto" room we had was spacious, atmospheric and very comfortable. The white washed wall with uplighting and minimalist decor created a romantic ambience- even the en-suite bathroom was pretty! Our bed was enormous and we slept very well! Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Basso was fabulous. There were lots of fresh local bread, pastries, cakes, cereals and fruit as well as cheese and cured meats. The cappuccinos were excellent too! We will definitely be back!

We couldn't have asked for more. Everything was lovely!

As so many have written: the view alone is the reason to choose this hotel. Walking around Matera, I couldn't find a more breathtaking view. The terrace is open all day and even though the hotel was fully booked, there was always lots of chairs available. Combine this with the very friendly staff, clean rooms with all comforts, good breakfast, you get a 5-star experience in a 3-star property. Although the hotel seems on the side, the walk to and from the hotel was always worth it. Stayed in the small single room and was very happy with the room and the amenities. Even the mini-bar has low prices.

The hotel is located just outside the old centre of Matera, with gorgeous views of the Sassi from the rooftop bar - a drink at sunset here must not be missed! Our double room was very well appointed, with its own minibar and wifi router. Staff were super friendly - we received great recommendations for dinner and were able to leave our bags at the hotel for a few hours after checkout while we explored the city. Breakfast was really nice, with a good range of options (fruit, yoghurts, foccacia, juices, bread, cold cuts, croissants etc.) and to have it on the terrace with the unbeatable view was the cherry on top.

Nothing, we loved our stay!

Room was huge with balcony facing street but quiet at night. Beautifully decorated. Wifi was a bit hit and miss at first but staff got around that. Reasonably priced parking very close by. The highlight is of course, the terrace with its magic view back over Matera and down the valley. Breakfast was excellent as were the staff. Matera is uphill and down dale so you cannot avoid this but the hotel is a relatively flat walk into the main shopping and restaurant area with access to the not so flat path which follows the old walking trail around edge of old town. Very fond memories of our stay here.

We loved this hotel. Its unique view back to the city of Matera is fabulous. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely. The staff were great and very friendly. We received information before we arrived about the parking which was extremely helpful. We parked up the street from the hotel. Very easy. If you get a parking place there walk your suitcases down otherwise if you go down as far as the hotel you get into a one way system. We ate well at restaurants close by. Loved the city of Matera and all its history. Good for a two night stay.

All was great.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and what a stunning treat for us both it was! The staff throughout our stay were very friendly. On arrival we were told our room would be another 40 minutes until it was ready and so we were offered a drink on the hotel terrace. What a wonderful and stunning introduction to Matera. We walked through a short tunnel to be greeted by a spectacular view of the Sassi. We had no issue with how long our room would be ready as we sat and enjoyed a drink and took in the views. Breakfast could be taken on the terrace each morning as well as enjoying an evening drink there, watching the colours across Matera change as dusk fell. Our room was gorgeous and unlike some other cave hotels we had no issues with damp as the hotel has a built in system that draws the dampness from the room daily. We had a lovely patio area for our room. While passers by could look in and see you sat enjoying a drink, it was usually with a look of envy. The hotel is within minutes walking distance of the old town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. If we returned we’d definitely stay here again.

No complaints, it was perfect!

Everything was great. Very nice little hotel, with beautiful rooms, very good breakfast, very friendly staff and the best view we ever had somewhere. From the breakfast terrace you can see whole Matera, it´s impossible to top this view. It´s realy magnificent and if we ever come again, we will sleep here. And not to mention the friendliness of the staff. We came early in the morning and Mr Davide (I think I remembered well) offered us a complimentary breakfast. Plus he explained everything and gave us an excellent suggestion for a restaurant. They certainly know how to do it perfectly:-) because of thi and the city itself this trip was so much more than we expected:-) Thks!

Everything was just perfect!

This hotel was one of the pricier we booked during our trip to Italy but well worth it!! The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our room was very spacious. The communal terrace with a view of the sassi was breathtaking and a lovely way to start and end the day. Location was a short walk to shops, sights and restaurant. Convenient parking lot up the street. We booked a 2.5 hour walking tour which was a great way to see the entire historic sassi with history and context. Loved our stay here and would definitely stay again.
