Location is good. Very helpful team, they got us special dietary every day. Very spacious room and beautiful for cosy winter Christmas vibes. We booked the room with jacuzzi and it was marvellous. They gifted us a beautiful wine bottle. Thank you

Would appreciated having someone helped us with the luggage on our way out, they did help us when we arrived though. They couldn't manage to get hold of the porter as it was Christmas day and the manager did help us half way through which was kind, but since I have a shoulder injury I can't carry heavy things. We should have reminded reception team on the check out to be pre arranged as it was Christmas.

First time in Matera, what an absolutely magical place-surreal. My room was tiny, however, travelling alone I felt the peace & the bed was very comfortable along with a sensational shower. A little safe haven to come home to with a terrace with an amazing view. Thankyou to all your staff for your caring & professional hospitality, you were all wonderful, especially Roberto & Francesco. Thankyou also for carrying my suitcase down the many steps to the taxi , much appreciated :) I feel blessed to have chosen L’Hotel In Pietra :)

Perfect location and views. The hotel has a lot of history and is very authentic. The room was clean, has minibar, toiletries, robes and a hot tub. We also had a terrace with views. Breakfast was simple and continental. Staff were very lovely and helpful.

This isn’t a criticism but something I was unaware would be the case - staying in a cave is massively humid and thus the room felt very damp - bedding, my clothes etc. I think it is worth nothing for anyone who suffers from breathing difficulties.

We loved our stay in L’hotel in Pietra. The room was spacious, tidy and clean. The hotel staff were exceptional and accommodating and we can’t thank them enough. Coming from overseas I sent a lot of questions and each were responded quickly. Roberto was able to locate a private driver to assist us in our next destination all pre arranged before we arrived. I highly recommend this hotel as all our needs plus more were met. Breakfast was sufficient with variety. Matera is an experience you have to visit.

Beautiful place, very historic and interesting. Staff was helpful and friendly. breakfast was very nice and the food was fresh.

I wouldn’t even call it a room, it was a box at the bottom with an armoire, then treacherous stairs to a closet bedroom. No place at all to put a suitcase ,coming downstairs to use the bathroom at night was taking your life into your hands. There were large gorgeous rooms there we just didn’t get one and I have no idea how difficult the stairs would be. This was not a room for anyone over 20! If you book here, make sure you get the right room

This boutique hotel was exceptional. We rented the room with tub and sauna and it was perfect. Room was even larger than expected and the extras of bathrobe, Epson salts and slippers was a great touch. Breakfast was super, even eggs and bacon for those who like a hot breakfast along with all the usual continental and European pastries and focaccia. The music piped into our room was ultra relaxing too …only wish we’d arrived earlier or first day to enjoy it all more.

No complaints. Had one issue with tub but staff helped us soon as asked.

We had a lovely stay at this charming boutique hotel in beautiful Matera. Likely most buildings in the old city, the building used to be a church and essentially the rooms have been carved into the old rock, giving this hotel its uniqueness. The layout of our classic room spread between two levels where the bathroom was on the ground level and the upstairs bedroom was accessed via a spiral staircase. The views of the town from the room, and actually from the bed itself, were stunning. It was nice to be able to enjoy beautiful views of the town and to do some people watching from the comfort of the bed. The lower level space was limited and the staircase at first seemed like a challenge but we quickly got used to this and were happy to forego more space in order to have the gorgeous views of the sassi. The bed was super comfortable and they provide several pillows. The room was made up daily and we always had plenty of towels and toiletries. The breakfast offered lots of Italian style items (pastries, cakes, etc) as well as eggs, cold cuts, bread. The coffee was nice and strong, and we definitely enjoyed plenty of it every morning. Even though the hotel is in the heart of the sassi, it was exceptionally quiet especially in the evening which allowed for a great sleep. We had a car which we parked at the garage nearby (this was one of the recommendations from the hotel) for 25 euro per night. This was a great option since we didn't have to worry about whether or not street parking would be available and it was within a reasonable walking distance. Of note, if you do park at this garage, make sure you take the first left off the main plaza (go towards Via Rocco, there are several signs directing you to the hotel) otherwise if you follow your phone's GPS directions you may end up climbing up lots of stairs like we did.

Staying at the Hotel in Pietra was an unforgettable experience that went beyond my usual expectations for a hotel stay. We decided to splurge a little extra and stayed at one of the suites. The room was beyond our expectations, and absolutely beautiful and magical! The building, or cave, is a perfect restoration of a historical church, with attention to detail that preserves its ancient beauty while providing modern luxuries. The staff at Hotel in Pietra were exceptionally welcoming and attentive. They were knowledgeable about the area and offered great recommendations for exploring Matera. The location of the hotel is ideal. It's conveniently situated to enjoy the best of the city’s sights. I highly recommend Hotel in Pietra to anyone visiting Matera. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a historical adventure, this hotel promises a stay filled with comfort, beauty, and excellent hospitality.

No wifi reception in the bathroom

Absolutely incredible hotel - the best I've ever stayed in by far - was blown away by the room - other reviews have mentioned that the room was humid and damp, but it really wasn't, there's a powerful dehumidifier that you can leave running while you're out and about which cancels out the humidity caused by the hot tub. The hot tub was very easy to use, the temperature could easily be changed, and they supplied bath robes and slippers to wear. We stayed in the room with a hot tub and a terrace, would 100% recommend spending the extra money on getting that room, it's well worth it. The staff were very efficient with cleaning the room, very unintrusive, we never had them knocking on the door or anything, and whenever we'd return to the hotel, even if we'd only been gone 40 minutes, they'd already have the room perfect again. Exceptional location, the view from the terrace is amazing, and everything in the Sassi is a short walk away. The staff were so helpful and kind, really made us feel at home, they were very accommodating. Organised a taxi for us to our bus upon departure, and had breakfast ready for us when we mentioned we'd be checking out earlier than their usual times Will 100% be returning, wish we had booked in for longer than the 3 nights.

This is a fantastic cave hotel with lovely rooms, friendly staff,with amazing views of the old town and 5 minutes walk to riestaurants and cafes. Varied and tasty breakfast of sweet and savoury Italian fare. We would go back again in a heartbeat. This is a town that will blow your mind. We have visited lots of areas in Italy but nowhere like this. Roberto built the hotel and proudly fronts reception on a daily basis accompanied by a great team. Lucia and Francesco went out of their way to give us a memorable holiday. The suites are all very different with magical, unique features. In our opinion this was the best located hotel we saw. One important thing to take into account is that the whole town is made up of different levels with hundreds if steps so you need to be fairly agile to get around

I can not think of anything not to like.
