A small and charming hotel in an unbeatable central location. The staff were exceptionally helpful—especially warm and welcoming throughout our stay. The rooms were well-appointed and quiet, ensuring a restful night. Breakfast was delicious with a good variety of options, and the lady serving was incredibly kind and attentive. The rooftop terrace was the perfect spot to enjoy an aperitivo at sunset. Highly recommended, truly top-notch.

From the minute I stepped through the front door, to my departure in a taxi the hotel ordered for me, my experience was excellent. The reception staff was pleasant, calm, and very informative! The room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and great value for money. The room was beautiful, a little bit of noise outside, but that is because you are in the center of everything - which for me, was ideal. Hotel is well-equipped with modern aspects including a speedy elevator, mini-fridge, safe, key cards, building code for after-hours, and of course, wifi. I was most impressed with the bathroom, which had a huge shower with an above spray nozzle and additional hand-held attachment that had great water pressure and temperature - something that has not been consistent in my stays throughout Italy. To top it all off, there is a beautiful terrace on the top floor where I received a complimentary welcome drink while enjoying the view. The hotel breakfast was suitable to my needs, enough to get the day started without the need to actively look for something to eat elsewhere. The options may have been limited due to the hotel size, but the staff present was super friendly and helpful.

I do not have anything negative to say about my short time at Palazzo della Fontana. I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied and highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Matera for sightseeing and exploring!

Excellent location. Central but quiet. Friendly and helpful staff.

The breakfast was excellent, the variety more than enough and the lady servicing was very kind and helpful. The room was appropriately equipped (for a 4-star hotel) of average size. The bathroom was also well equipped and ergonomic, of good size, and the shower area as well, although the paint on the shower wet wall was peeling. The receptionists were very kind and helpful. The location is excellent, right at the center of Matera, (although this might be a problem because of noise during the festivities' period).

The price was higher than what it should be considered as normal for a 4-star hotel, but we realized that it was the period of the celebration of the Matera cathedral and there were many visitors around. By the way if you want privacy and a quiet stay at Matera avoid this period. There is a lot of noise around and the last day of our stay we could not sleep before about 01:00 due to loud music in a park near the hotel (the hotel could do nothing about it except to complain to the police - I am not sure). Another minor problem is that the hotel cannot be directly accessed by car because it is in a pedestrian street and it has no parking, so if you come by car you will have to find a parking place in a nearby garage, but you will have to pre-book it.

I really loved my stay at the Palazzo della Fontana, wish I would have booked more than one night. The location is perfect, you are right in the city center, everything important is within 5 minutes walking distance. The room was very spacious with a very tasteful Interior and high quality toiletries. The receptionist were super helpful with tipps regarding restaurants and parking. You cannot park in front of the hotel, there is only a space for 30 Minutes, but you can at least drop off the luggage at the Hotel. The parking garage is 2 minutes away and it costs 20€ per day. The breakfast was delicious and the Cappuccino marvelous. I would definitely come back and will recommend the place to friends.

Room could use and iron, more hangers, and a place to store your luggage. The a/c was hard to figure out and operate. More a critism of booking than the hotel- I filtered for free parking, but paid $ 25 euros per night.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Palazzo della Fontana, and it was an exceptional experience.The location is excellent, offering easy access to the city's main attractions. The hotel itself is impeccably clean, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. One of the highlights of our stay was the beautiful terrace restaurant. We enjoyed a delightful glass of Franciacorta in a wonderfully pleasant atmosphere. The breakfast was also fantastic, with a variety of delicious options and very attentive staff. Although the price is on the higher side, the overall experience at Palazzo della Fontana is worth every penny.

Perfect family run, beautiful small hotel in center of Matera. Comfortable beds, delicious breakfast, many choices for fresh fruits & baked goods, Eggs made to order! Complimentary ‘ Welcome drink @ the rooftop bar. Very informative & attentive staff, especially Paolo! Lovely visit!

All Excellent!

We loved our stay at Palazzo della Fontana. Everything was nice, from the welcome drink on the rooftop to the helpful staff that gave us great advice and treated us to a fine breakfast on the terrace. The location is very convenient, just by the Sassi but with the comforts of a well renovated building with all modern perks, comfortable beds, and elegant rooms.
