The room was exceptional! So well designed and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was superb - with fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, yogurt, cheese, meats and fresh bakery goods! Plus, coffee and capuchino was available in my room. The staff - particularly Mary - helped me with pick up times on numerous occasions - she was effecient and extremely helpful in a stressful situation when at a last minute a tour was canceled. Also the driver - name starts with an M - sorry can;t remember - he was the ipitomy of patience - as I needed assistance with luggage and getting to tours on time. The VERY BEST place to stay in Matera - oh, an a quiet area!!!

Extraordinary! Excellent service: the hotel is in the pedestrian zone so they give you options where to park (we parked for free in a university lot nearby) and pick you up / deliver you to your car. They carry your suitcases for you to your room since stairs and some walking is required. Rooms are incredible, each one in a separate « cave » completely refurbished. Heated floors in the bathroom, smart Tv. Amazing breakfast, incredible view from the door of our room, friendly and helpful staff.

Rooms are in the Sassi Caveosa area overlooking the ravine. They are large, characterful and (we stayed in early February) well heated - the heating/air con is easy to adjust. Breakfast is very good - lots of fruit - and the staff are friendly and helpful. The location is quiet but with lots if goid restaurants nearby.

A bit of damp in the bathroom (which is well heated and has good extraction) - but (as someone who lives in an old property) I imagine it is hard to completely prevent in sassi/cave houses. One of the bed bases was squeaky when you moved.

The location is great, in the sassi, adjacent to the sassi area acquired by the government and set aside to eventually be developed as a museum. So it is quiet, with gorgeous gorge views. Most helpful was the free shuttle from and to our car park, and to where our walking tour started (38 degree heat). Breakfast was good. We were in a studio mezzanine to sleep our adult kids up top, the privacy was good. We had a bath too!

At night the mezzanine level was hotter, and the kids found the AC just couldnt cut it up there.

Stayed at Basiliani Hotel in Matera and loved the experience! The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, blending the historic charm of the Sassi with modern comfort. Location is perfect—quiet yet close to all main sights. Breakfast had tasty local options, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Note: parking is not allowed as it’s in a restricted zone, and Google Maps may not take you directly to the reception, so it’s best to follow the hotel’s instructions. Highly recommend!

The staff at Basiliani couldn't be more helpful. From picking us up and dropping us off at the free parking area, to making dinner reservations and carrying our luggage from the van to our room. The view over the Gravina is spectacular! The breakfast and the service at breakfast is fantastic. We loved staying in the 'cave' room. The shower/spa was one of a kind.

Nothing negative to say. Maybe somewhere to sit in the room would be nice

huge room of unique interior, the biggest shower I have ever been in ;-), great interior illumination, super kind and supportive staff speaking in 4 languages, amazing location! the whole old city is based on steepy hill with hundreds of steps therefore a free shuttle to new-town city centre parking was extremely helpful instead of towing our luggage for 1,5 kilometre

huge room and vast bathroom where separated with 4 steps only - with no doors - what might make visiting the loo a bit of stress or discomfort while sounds in the bathroom echo like in opera or dome ;-) ;-) ;-)

The hotel was right in the amazing Caveoso area near the Sassi area. The rooms were spacious and it was nice to be in the caves. The staff was amazing. Giuseppe was especially amazing, he was always so pleasant and helped us out tremendously after being stranded, and with a flat tire. The main desk other drivers and breakfast staff were great too.

The beds were a bit uncomfortable compared to North American standards but that’s come to be expected in Europe.

This was our second stay at Basiliani hotel for the last 6 months. We absolutely love the location, the rooms, and the spectacular views from the room. The breakfast is great - high quality local products, fresh, and nicely presented. The staff is very nice and attentive. We parked our car on a parking slot, outside the Sassi area and used the hotel shuttle service, which is very fast and convenient way to get to the hotel. Already looking forward for our next stay there.

Absolutely brilliant service, Giuseppe picked us up from the car park and gave us loads of information about Matera on the way to the hotel. He was also kind enough to give suggestions as to the "must see" locations and beat restaurants. The room was massive for the price and with air con. The views just outside the hotel were stunning.
