The location is great in the stassi - the fact that the taxi can pull up to the property is a bonus even though you have to climb a small flight of steps. The host was waiting for us at check in and even though she could not speak English, she very patiently let us have a choice of rooms and told us all the relevant information. She helped us book a taxi to and from the property. She made calls to help us find a guide and was very kind. We had lunch at the busy restaurant right next door which was great. We walked all around the area - its great place to explore Matera from.

We chose our room as it was spacious but the bathroom was really tiny and we could barely move in the shower which was very minor as we were only there for a night. Breakfast was dropped off in a paper bag before our early check out and was disappointing.

the hosts were wonderful and very helpful. Our espresso machine broke the first day and they brought us a new one by the afternoon. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. the location was perfect and close to the main piazza. the space was large and comfortable.

We didn't care that the bathroom was downstairs from the bedroom, but we knew this before we booked our stay. If anyone has problems with stairs, not a good idea to stay here. the bed and pillows could have been a little more comfortable, but we were not there to sleep all day! Overall we really liked everything!

The room was right down in the heart of the amazing Sassi area. The Host was helpful and waiting for us at the time we said we would arrive so she could personally show us around. Clean room, comfortable bed and incredible location. Breakfast of pastries, juice, yogurt was waiting outside the door.

Loved everything. It was a simple, affordable and the location was magical.

We were greeted by the owner's daughter who was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. When we arrived, our room had been changed / upgraded by the property since we were going to stay three nights in a row. At first, we were surprised by this change since we had booked another room with a terrace but we liked the new room which still had a different terrace and was bigger in size. - The free breakfast included in the price that you can get from a nearby cafe was perfect for a hot summer vacation (coffee & delicious pastry). - The kitchen in our new room was great and had everything in case you wanted to cook. The espresso maker was also great. - The location is perfect, walking location to all the sightseeing attractions and literally just below one of the most important spots. There are many great restaurants and bars around as well. - They also helped us with arranging shuttle from the airport and taxi to the train station. Overall, we had a great time in Matera and Sassolina Dimora Storica enhanced our experience.

Location near centre square. Close to restaurants. Private. Outdoor patio for our use to sit and relax with wine. Spacious bedroom. Full bathroom. Breakfast delivered every morning. Shuttle service to car park was easy and inexpensive.

I liked everything. Patrizia and Lino were gracious, supportive and SO welcoming. I highly recommend this property.

Spectacular suite in ideal location. Excellent communication and super amenities. Bed was very comfortable. The patio sunset view was beautiful and private above street. Breakfast restaurant had nice coffee and selection of pastries. Sad only one night here.

No regrets

Comfortable room with modern facilities that well blended with the style of this old city. I like the high ceilings and its spacious room. It’s in the good location near to many places but also quiet in the evening

Sassolino is an upscale accommodation with all the modern amenities in a cave-like dwelling. Our host, Lino, assisted us with parking and arranged a tour of the old city. His daughter, Valeria, spoke English and helped us with orientation and recommended restaurants. The apartment location and walkability were excellent. The apartment was spacious, very clean, and included an efficient kitchenette. Coffee and pastry breakfast was just across the street, and we had a small, simple dining table right outside our front door. Kiev restaurant had a great view of a church and is less than 100 yards from Sassolino. Morgan was a step up in dining. They brought me a Roman candle for my birthday. We spent 2 nights in Matera – it was touristy fun as well as thought provoking. Lots of bars, restaurants, and stunning but disturbing views of the ancient caves.

The location was fabulous so central, our room was beautiful, the family owners were so friendly,easy and helpful checking inn, breakfast just up the road in a little cafe lovely cappuccino and cornetto. Everything perfect thank you

Absolutely nothing

Great location easily walkable to the main attractions. Nice bars and restaurants on the same street. Voucher for breakfast (coffee and croissant) at the café opposite. Spacious bathroom.

Spiral staircase had been closed off with wood at the ceiling but a lot of noise transfers through this from the room above. A rug over this on the upper room may fix the issue. Room a little tired looking compared to the photos.
