Very cute hotel in the middle of the Sassi - if you book this accomodation, you can completely enjoy the Sassi without taking a step out of it for the time of your stay. The staff recommends you things to do. The breakfast was very great. The hotel room was very cozy, they even wrote a letter about who has lived in the cave before.

The breakfast wasn’t filled up once it was served. However, there was still a lot which was offered, so it wasn’t a problem. The cave can “stink” a little bit and be a bit humid, but this is just the nature of it. One little thing, we were sleeping in a cave which was build by bricks - some rooms are truly a cave, so this was a little bit disappointing, assuming all rooms would be caves.

Stunning cave hotel, wonderful and professional staff, a real experience! Great porters met our car and carried luggage, desk staff organized our tours, reservations, a meal of bruschetta and wine at the last minute on a rainy evening. Highly recommended!

The hotel is a bit difficult to find. We had a terrific 5 bed family room which was a good size for our group. However it was accessible by 2 narrow flights of steep stairs which were a bit of a concern for an 86 yo member of our group. We knew it was going to be a unique experience but I might have booked our friend into a lower unit if I had known.

Amazing hotel engraved into my the hill and looks like thousand and one night at night. Amazing trip back in time and very spacious and comfortable and clean room for 6 people. Very friendly and caring staff, open to help - they helped to book for us place in parking and shuttle delivery to the hotel. Nice breakfast. In general whole experience - THE AMAZING IMPRESSION to remember!!! Highly highly recommended as quite uniques experience And Matera city itself is massive unique experience - clearly no miss destination

Everything, it was an idyllic room in a fantastic location. The hosts were absolutely amazing. The ambience in the breakfast room was wonderful, capturing the history of Matera in such an aesthetic way. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with a wide variety of choices. My wife particularly enjoyed the granola and yogurt on both mornings. The only little drawback was that there was some dampness in the room which affected the clothes hanging in the little cave wardrobe. And perhaps a TV. Although we did laugh at the drawing in the breakfast room depicting the couple sans TV.

This was a really cool and unique hotel experience! The room was well appointed with little amenities and the bed was comfy. Of course, it was a little dark, but we fully expected that as it was in a cave! The breakfast was a very generous and delicious spread. The staff was very friendly and accommodating! We arrived when reception was closed but called the front desk and they gave us the door code to leave our luggage in the lobby until reception reopened, which I appreciated.

Exceptional restored original Matera cave with modern Italian interior design. All rooms r uniquely designed, some even with jacuzzi Family run property offers all imaginable services. We did a homemade pasta in-house course with kids - can only recommend.

Study well the way in to the property and parking options.it would be for all Sassi accommodations the same recommendations. I would use taxi or luggage portier. Have in mind that there is a noise of aircon system in upper rooms which is a minore disturbance. Overall its an amazing travel-in-time like movie experience.

Beautiful and unique hotel! Our room had a wonderful shared terrace where we spent an evening playing cards and drinking wine. Breakfast was really nice, staff was friendly and helpful, great views. We even had a little cave gathering room to hang out in.

Loved everything! Shower was cool water.. no hot. But as it was 95 degrees outside it was not an issue. May be hard for some people to navigate the stairs to the hotel but you can also have your bags delivered.

Our stay at Le Dodici Lune was wonderful. The property was beautiful and the room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They showed us important sites and booked us a taxi to get us back to our car so we didn’t have to lug our luggage through the many many stairways of Matera.

Myself and my partner loved everything about the property, the modern look inside of a historic location as well as the attention to details. Made us feel like royalty throughout our stay. Owners were delightful to talk to and helped with every little thing they could.

Location was excellent and our room was wonderful thanks. Arranging porters to carry our luggage down to our waiting shuttle was done by the lovely staff. Just amazing walking around and through this city. The room, although with modern finishes, really kept the originality of a cave experience. Buffet breakfast was the best 100% recommend.
