Great location. We were minutes from Piazza San Pietro and great restaurants. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. The staff were friendly, helpful and provided excellent recommendations for meals. It was expected, but know that staying in a cave, it was damp. The room cooled down in the evening and was fine for sleeping.

Parking off site is a drawback but we knew this going in, so if you know in advance, not a bad thing. Use the instructions to get to the hotel that are given by the staff. The GPS takes you a long, stair-filled way :)

Cave junior suite was very spacious and characterful although shower was on smaller side. Comfortable mattress and good pillows but quite creaky bed frame. Could have done with some more coat hangars. Also a kettle and ability to make a hot drink would be a useful addition especially in cooler weather. Excellent location with amazing views a few steps away. Breakfast was good and very reasonable price if not included in rate which ours was. Bus stop to and from station and car park only 50m. Staff were very helpful.

We stayed here ten years ago and now have two fond memories. The ambiance is fantastic. We had a nice view across the valley. Room was clean. Breakfast was great. Caveoso filled our little coffee Thermos for the road. Good coffee! Ten years ago the smart phone map apps weren't as good but now Google maps made it easy to get in and out.

This is not a complaint about the Caveoso Hotel - just giving a bit more context for people thinking about booking. People must recognize that in these ancient towns parking can be a challenge. There's a municipal parking garage that we used which was 17 euros which I thought was fair.

We enjoyed everything about the property: great location, comfortable bed, spacious room, breakfast was delicious. It was nice having the bar so we could get a beverage & sit outside. Staff was outgoing & friendly, helped us with what to see & had maps.

Parking offsite is the only drawback, but us the norm for staying in the “old town.” We learned we could drive up to the hotel to load our luggage upon checkout if we were out of the old town by 10:00 am, which was very helpful.

Great location! Very easy to arrive by car and a tiny walk up some steps to get there. It’s right next to the Piazza San Pietro Caveoso and also an incredible view point at the church of Saint Mary Idris. It’s in a nice quiet part of old town and a great base to explore Matera. When we checked in our host gave us restaurant recommendations, told us about great viewing points and made other helpful suggestions. They also were able to recommend a driver for one of our transfers. The room was very clean and spacious. We really enjoyed our stay. Staff were lovely!

Bed is a little uncomfortable and the bathrooms is a little outdated but all functional.

The property was very close to the center of the historical town, it was easy to travel to all of the main tourist points. The view from the windows was especially beautiful and the architecture had been framed in an intentional way. The cave itself was unique and the furniture worked with the aesthetic perfectly. The master bed is large and great for gatherings around. The facilities were easy to access and use, and the staff was kind and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, and ordered to your liking.

In the second, smaller bedroom, there were ants coming from a hole in the cave wall and made it hard to sleep as they would come on to the bed and pillows.

The location was good enough to walk around the sassi area. Cave room is nice to stay as I can imagine when booking.

The internet doesn’t work in most of the part in the room for both Wi-Fi and the mobile network like 4G or 5G. My room number was #5. I needed to connect the internet, I move to the entrance area of the room, where there’s no chair, or I needed to go outside of the room, where there are terrace chairs and tables.

Very nice "cave room", with plenty of space, comfortable beds, air conditioning and plenty of fesh water in the room fridge (much appreciated). The view on a "chiesa rupestre" from just outside our room was also spectacular. We were given plenty of useful information at the check-in, which helped us finalize our plans for visiting Matera in the short time we had (1 night stay only). Hotel staff was always friendly and supportive.

Breakfast setup can be improved. While food quality and breakfast room are good, the request to list in advance (the night before) all the food we wanted (and the related, exact quantities) made us a bit uncomfortable. However, that did not significantly impact our stay.

Wonderful location and is just 5-minutes walk from the bus final stop (line SASSI). It is within a quiet place and you can experience Matera on foot.

Dust / Dirt dripping off from the ceiling (right on top of the bed). We stayed during hot Summer but one of the air conditioners was not working well (but they provided an electric fan). Well, the costs of one or two nights should be able to get a decent brand new air conditioner.

Book room 9. It has a balcony with an incredible view.

Budget 30 euros a day for parking. You will have to leave the car outside the old town for 20 euros a day and pay the driver 10 euros to get to the hotel. And then another 10 euro taxi ride to fetch the car. Not sure why booking filters mention parking when the hotel doesn't have any parking at all.
