It's a unique hotel on many level. The online check in and codes to enter rooms are quite common now, but it crafts a different experience: there is no breakfast option, but instead you have the snack and minibar for free and re-filled everyday, you have also the working corner in the lobby where you can enjoy a free drink, coffee, and snacks 24/7. The room is simply, comfy, and equipped with better facilities compared to the usual offering in the price range: a fancy Dyson dryer, a Nespresso machine, a radio and music player. As a night owl who prefers a cozy night to a morning breakfast this was a heaven.

The location is good but not excellent, you need to walk 10-12 minutes to two near metro station, or take the tram located in front of the hotel to the metro. The problem is that the tram comes every 10+ minutes, so if you are not lucky walking will be the only logical option. It's a nice area to walk, but in August it wasn't that fun with 32+ degrees. Another problem which I faced in many Italian cities at summer is mosquitos. Very harsh and aggressive ones. You can expect them at the street with hot weather, but I didn't expect them to be in the lobby working area. Maybe they need to do something to deal with the sneaky mosquitos who enter whenever the front door opens :)

I liked the design of the room there the most. Also, it was exceptionally clean, staff was super friendly and service oriented. Location was perfect.

I was missing the variety of the food in breakfast buffet. Also, if you come 1 hour before closing breakfast, plates were almost empty (no omelet, no boiled eggs, no bacon, no vegetables) and staff was not refilling it. It came also as '' a surprise'' that 4* hotel was not offering gluten free bread. Basically it was no savory food there. If you come from a Nordic country you don't eat cakes for breakfast :) Breakfast buffet was the most disappointing there.

Hotel d’Este is great. Great location close to the trams and metros. Lots of dining options close to the hotel. Breakfast was basic but practical before a long day in Milan. Rooms are clean and comfortable. My room was in the back of the hotel… not much of a view but very quiet. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking to be outside of the Duomo area but want to be able to reach it easily. It is walking distance to Bocconi university and the Navigli district and 1 direct tram ride to the Duomo.

Would have liked a bar on site for drinks without having to go out. No coffee machines or kettle in the rooms.

The place exceeded my expectations. The staff is nice and polite, and not only the reception, but everyone. When the housekeeping staff sees you going for breakfast, they nicely ask you if you have preference when they can come to clean the room, and so on. I stayed in a superior single room and liked it a lot. The size of the room is ok, and it has a sufficiently large desk so that you can comfortably work with your laptop computer. The bathroom is also good and has fanstastic bath towels. Previous travelers have given mixed opinions about the breakfast, so let me try to resolve the disagreement. I stayed in the hotel for a week and noticed that the selection of food changes from day to day. One some days they offered only one type of meat in the cold cuts section and a very limited selection of bread and pastries, on other days they offered more. The variety of food was never great, but usually kind of ok. Besides the usual things, they had scrambled eggs, and I liked that because some hotels do not bother to cook anything. They also had a very good fruit salad (which may also be a seasonal thing -- I stayed there in August-September). Overall, the breakfast was better than in many other hotels in Milan and I am satisfied with it.

The only thing that is not perfect is that the room doors are not very tight. The walls seem to be ok and I didn't hear anything from the neighbors, but I was disturbed once by people talking loudly in the hallway very early in the morning, and the door did not do any good job of isolating the room from the outside sounds.

Cosy and welcoming hotel, feels like home and family. Rooms are so clean, nicely decorated and well maintained. The bed and pillows were amazingly comfortable. Best kept secret is the yoga mat and training ball in the closet. Really enjoyed our stay there and surely come back again.

It was slightly away from the Duomo but close to Bocconi university which was fine for us

Everything was more than perfect! The staff was helpful and very polite. We always had available coffee, tea, water and refreshments in our room, really important during the hot days we stayed in Milan. Tram station right next to the hotel with direct access to central train station. Good job guys! Keep going! We will be back for sure 😊

the staff were exceptional. so helpful! the check in and out process is so simple and easy. loved the facilities in the rooms - the wireless speaker, the toiletries provided and the free mini bar, the coffee machine. every need was thought out.

I guess more breakfast provision in the hotel would be helpful. and perhaps the price could be lower.

AMAZING !!!!!!! i cant explain how comfortable i was in this hotel. literally the attention to detail is something to be admired in this place i loved my stay and will recommend it to everyone i know

nothing it was perfect

Our room was a really lovely size, beyond our expectations, as was the bathroom. Plenty of toiletries available. Breakfast was very good - simple but lovely and fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We were on 8th floor and it was unfortunate the lift was out of order. We had to use the service lift, which was very small, and walk the final floor.

We liked the reception staffs, old style formal professional and friendly service. Interesting decor, comfortable rooms, clean and quiet area (chosen on purpose) located with a few convenient bars/restaurants outside the door. Not far from the tourist area but not close to be noisy. Lovely breakfast area and fast, friendly service.

The only small thing: I would like to be able to cut my own thickness of toast, chose seeds or wholewheat and toast it myself like other hotels do. It would be good to have more heart healthy options like low fat milk (I have to keep my cholesterol low you see)
