Exceptional location, one block from Metro. Beautiful, safe neighborhood. All of the people working for the hotel were great. The room was very clean. Hotel has a great restaurant. The view was of a beautiful ornate old building. Bed was extremely comfortable, the room was quiet, you didn’t hear any noise in the hallway or street. Shower was great. Loved the Nespresso coffee maker and coffee in the room. The room had a mini fridge that was empty so you could store any leftovers in it. There was complimentary water given each day.

I paid extra for a room upgrade to luxury. The leather headboard and desk chair were ripped and frayed. Very small thing, but if you pay extra for luxury I think it just means the view. The hotel had what they called room service, but it was items from the restaurant menu and if you ordered it you would have to pay $10 extra per order. This is fine if you want to, but I thought it would have been a little excessive to order a $9 bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and pay $19 for it plus a tip if I wanted breakfast in my PJ’s. One more small thing, I had a question about something related to my stay that I approached and emailed hotel staff with several times in my week stay. they constantly said they would get back to me with the answer and never did.

Elegant hotel! Beautiful spacious room, extremely quiet, very clean, and so many elegant touches... from the metal coasters under the glasses to the super comfy bed and the Balmain bath products (please do not change them!). Excellent desk + table light to work. Huge TV which I did not use because I happily fell asleep in the super comfy bed. My room had no view, but there was sufficient light. Also, lovely reading chair with reading light. So close to the White House and conference center. On top of all this, the staff at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. I was traveling for work but this place would be perfect with family too.

There were some chocolate fingerprints on one of the curtains, maybe the hotel could check and do some deep cleaning every now and then. No other concerns

I have been in this hotel many times before 8-10 years earlier and it has transformed in a mediocre hotel. The good French restaurant is gone and the bar has changed into an ugly cheap atmosphere location. The rooms are still nice and clean, but no bar. The lobby has lost its atmosphere and the elevators are dirty. To be honest, this hotel needs a refit

We stayed for a weekend during the Cherry Blossom Festival and couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful stay. The staff is friendly and very helpful, and the rooms were well appointed. The bed was scrumptious with high-quality bed linens and a feather bed cover. So many lovely design details for comfort and a romantic feel. We ate dinner at Opaline and were pleased with the quality of the food. Location is excellent, walkable to sightseeing and restaurants, easily accessible via public transport. We arrived by train and relied on walking and metro to get around. Our stay was very quiet.

Location not far from the white House safe and central and within walking distance to the Mall, monuments, meseums, capitol and restaurants and shops. I was upgraded and allowed early access as I requested early on booking - definetly recommend doing this otherwise check in is usually 4pm but I know the hotel can store your bags if your room is not ready. check in and check out ladies were lovely, efficient and polite and offered me maps and what to do which was helpful. The room itself was amazing, great size, smart tv, coffee machine, complimentary water, spacious wardrobe and safe, mini fridge that was stocked so you could buy things and put in the fridge.

My only dislike was the water pressure of the shower - I expect stronger water pressure when staying at hotels of a certain rating, I personally don't like showering when the shower pressure is mild at its best. In room dining and breakfast was from the restaurant opaline - the offering was ok but again expect a lot more from sofitel here

The hotel is beautiful, its a 5 minute walk from the White House & BLM Plaza, the Opaline restaurant was amazing (lunch; the Endive salad is delicious), the staff were friendly, they use nicely-scented Balmain products in the restroom, and the vibe was one to be desired.

I was told I could not get a room with a view of the White House for security reasons but I’ve read that others have been assigned rooms with this view. I requested well in advance (in case it was possible) but this response was only shared upon arrival. I understand the security component but the communication was not clear or timely in this case.

I had a bedroom on the top floor, interesting view and lots of sun. The bed was very comfortable, the room's decoration was very elegant and posh, the bathroom was well appointed, the toiletries were first class, the service at the front desk was excellent. I loved the location even though it is not at Lafayette Square as advertised but a block away. Easy walk to the Mall and museums. There are some very nice restaurants within a block or two and across the street. The area felt very safe.

An armchair in the bedroom was so worn with ripped corners that I had to request a replacement. It took several hours, emails and photos to get it done. There was no lobby, no lounge area, just a bench in the entrance and two tiny rooms with two armchairs on each side. No place to meet with friends or guests. The TV was not working properly but I still got charged extra for the service. One of the shades covering the window had a broken string/line, therefore the shade hung very crooked. The shower leaked under the door.

Personal of the hotel. They are a very caring team - every receptionist, concierge, engineer, and restaurant staff I met was delightful. And an excellent breakfast. The location cannot be better - a historic, unique area. One of the elevators is always waiting for you on the 1st floor - great detail. The main door opens automatically - comfy. Excellent location for taxi pick up.

The hotel needs infrastructure renewal (renovation): old, worn carpets, a noisy ventilation system, and dirty furniture in some places.

Location and staff

Needs updating. Iron in our room didn’t work. They were quick to replace it though when we contacted the front desk. Tv stopped working but they were quick to respond. Mini fridge did not work at all. We didn’t call about it but would have been nice to have. Also very limited space for our clothes.

Everything was great, the staff, room, and location. Great breakfast and I really liked the coffee. We had a great corner room. It was very big.

There was only an old fridge from the stocked mini bar fridge days. Either stock it or switch to a better fridge. I did not trust my leftovers enough to eat.
