A stunning hotel that we could not fault in any way. The room was amazingly modern and clean, and well furnished. The hotel was very well positioned only a few minute walk from Shijo metro station with direct access to Kyoto Station only two stops away. There was a cute bar in the lobby which also offered limited but very lovely food. The staff seemed to take pride in their hotel and their service was impeccable, nothing was too much to ask and they always offered kind greetings. We stayed one night when Japan were playing in the Rugby World Cup and we wanted to watch the game at a local bar. They gave some recommendations and then rang up the one we chose to ask for their availability and told us how it would work for a big event from information on the phone. This was invaluable and we went to the bar to watch the game which turned into one of our three week Japan highlights! Breakfast was unique but lovely and everything was served quickly from a choice of four options. Kyoto is a mesmerisingly diverse city and this wonderful hotel made the experience all the more enjoyable!! Even little things like intuitive controlled air conditioning in the room, extra pillows in the floor corridors and free Japanese sake at the bar every evening go a long way when travelling! Cannot recommend enough, would have paid double the price and still given it as good a review so the fact it is so cheap is amazing.

We enjoyed the bed & breakfast/hostel style atmosphere among the common area. It was nice to see the lobby lively with other travelers and the food was good too! Lots of vegan options. It was a nice balance of modern and traditional. Definitely recommend for groups.

This was one of our favourite hotels from our trip to Japan. The hotel was very stylish and had a nice bar area at the front (they offer free wine and sake to guests staying at the hotel!). The staff were super helpful and friendly, and they allow luggage storage in the daytime should you need it. The rooms were a good size and were clean. There was space for a few suitcases which was a welcome change from the hotels in Tokyo! Imu hotel is in a good location in the dead centre of Kyoto, it’s just a 5 minute walk to the metro station which takes you straight to Kyoto station. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the area too so plenty of selection to eat and drink. We didn’t try the food at the hotel restaurant but it did look great. We would 100% stay at this hotel again should we return to Kyoto.

The water dispenser and complimentary coffee and sake were AWESOME! Everyone was so kind and helpful, and the room was pretty spacious by Japan standards! We had a great shelf (console) above the beds (2 twins) and lots of outlets. Also, having the sink outside of the bathroom was a game changer. Loved the humidifiers and extra pillows in the hallway. And the lobby area is a cute and cozy place to hang. I would definitely stay here again!

Location could be a little more central, but I also liked that it was away from the chaos of the city. No notes other than that! We all really enjoyed our stay!

The atmosphere is so cozy and relaxed, staff supernice and English speaking. Easy to get in contact with other guests if you feel like it. The free sake is also a nice thing. You have several breakfast options. I always took the Japanese one which didn't vary from day to day but that's ok because I found it quite tasty. My single room felt rather spacious by Japanese standards. It felt like the perfect choice in Kyoto to me.

Personally I don't like not to be able to open the window and rely on a/c which worked well though. Had earplugs aganst the slight noise but you could also get those in the hotel.

Cleanliness, the bunkbed, the breakfast. We are always looking forward for breakfast. Taste and presentation is excellent. I have never liked vegetarian food, but there’s is something I came to like. Although I didn’t ask, I hope there is an option to have a boxed breakfast option when you need to be somewhere early in the morning. Kiddo loves the bunkbed, too. The size of the room is small as most Japanese accommodation but there is a space to move around and open one luggage at a time.

It is a little bit far from the train station. Walkable but imagining if I have little kids, this is a bit of a walk.

Staff is helpful, and provided a complementary ticket to go up a Gion Matsuri float, which is nice. The usual stuff is there - storing luggage before check in / after check out, but note that the main door closes after 11pm, need to press the bell to get in if you haven't got your key yet. Plenty of headroom for the bunk bed, was tall enough to sit up, which is great.

Location was not bad, a short walk from the station but you are expected to walk a lot since you're travelling in Japan, so that's ok. Sound proofing wasn't the best, but everyone is polite and decent staying in Japan, so noise is minimal.

The hotel and its staff were amazing compared to our previous experiences in Japan. The staff were very nice, all the needs of a traveller were considered, check in and check out was very smooth, the hotel location was very central and many places were within walking distance to the hotel. The hotel has a large reception area and even a play area for children which is very convenient for families and for freelance workers who needs to catch up with work at silent hours. The hotel does not provide laundry service but there is a nearby coin washer store where you can handle thins kind of work too. We also had breakfast in the hotel. It was reasonably prices, the portions were large and best of all there was vegetarian options which was very helpful for us.

We liked everything about this hotel.

Superb location close to metro, bus & facilities. Compact yet fairly bright well-equipped room with large toilet area, bunk bed setup with very clean sheets, and extra pillows were a plus. The separate lockable luggage area which allowed us more time to explore, with the friendly, super attentive and helpful staff, as well as a delicious traditional style breakfast and coffee & water always available downstairs, made our short stay that much more pleasurable.

The airconditioning for our room was not easy to turn on at first, and the window was locked, so we could not breathe and it got stuffy very quickly. However, the staff were very quick to attend to this when we alerted them. Though the reason may be to save energy & because of winter time, as shown on the label in the room, it may have been better if the staff could attend to this matter for a short time upon us entering the room to ensure a suitable comfort level.

The breakfast was great! Staff was very friendly and helpful. We got the bunk bed room and it was a bit cramped, but you get what you pay for. It was enough room for us to open both our luggages lol. Location wise it was a bit of a walk (maybe 5 minutes-ish?) from the station. There are some izakayas and food places within walking distance. There is a Family Mart within walking distance. There are also amenities provided on the first floor, like hot water, cold water, additional combs.

Not a big minus point, but there wasn't any coin laundry within the premise. Nearest one was located outside of the building.
