the amenities that were provided were great! It was nice to have options and even things like facial wash and pajamas provided. The heated floors were amazing!

we requested for the futon instead of the western beds, but the futons at the property are quite thin and it was hard to get to sleep. While the futon was thin, the comforter was really comfy. as advised by the staff, the walls of the room were pretty thin. We didnt have 'neighbours' for the first half of our stay, but when a young family moved in, we could hear their kids all night and that wasnt so pleasant. the neighbourhood is generally quiet though so the earplugs that they provide are generally for the neighbours.

The Machiya is amazing. We stayed in the Blue suite, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The entire experience from receiving the key at the Rinn Kyoto Station to walking inside the Machiya for the first time felt like a dream. Staying in the Machiya felt like staying in a house. We had 2 floors, 2 rooms, 2 half-baths, 1 full bath, a kitchen, and even a garden. It was quite an experience.

The refrigerator in the room did not actually keep anything cold, even in the freezer section. The wifi in the building was not strong enough to reliably reach the farthest bedroom in the suite (the one with Western style beds). The staff was kind enough to bring a wifi hotspot out to the Machiya at 9PM at night when we called about the wifi problem though!

It’s close to the station, which is v handy for day trips. The street was quiet but near good restaurants and a 10-min walk from a good sento. Good for families as we had separate rooms for parents and kids, great bath. We loved having a washing machine in the bathroom.

The reception is at another site which makes it less practical for organising bag transfers and if you need anything extra. There is a phone to contact the front desk though. The rooms are quite small and the top bedroom doesn’t have a window, just a light well which makes the whole place quite stuffy and dark early in the afternoon.

Beautiful traditional inn. One weird thing about check in is that the actual inn is about 6 min walk from the reception.

The location is near the train station, but relatively far from all of the attractions to Kyoto.

It was everything we expected of a traditional Ryokan, authentic but with all the modern conveniences for our family of 4 adults. Situated in a quiet neighbourhood, a 10 minute walk to station and local to nearby shrines and gardens. Two bedrooms and toilet upstairs, and living kitchen/dining room, seperate toilet and bathroom downstairs, with sliding doors to an ornamental rock garden. Comfortable beds, beautiful bed linen and towels.

No complaints, only to add face flannels

Really cool and central property if you're into historical stays. It’s not a typical hotel room but more like a full house with a peaceful courtyard garden view. First, you’ll need to check in at a different location, as there’s no staff in the building where you’ll be staying, but they provide a free taxi service to the property, which is very convenient. The house spans three levels, with two bedrooms and a bathroom featuring a tub controlled by a panel (like a private onsen). There's no full kitchen, but basic amenities like a microwave are available. The design and materials are very thoughtfully chosen. The location is on a very quiet street yet still right in the middle of everything. Overall, staying in a "machiya" has been a wonderful experience.

The washing machine needed more explanation in English. The airco panel in the bedroom has a very bright light, we needed to cover it with a towel to be able to sleep - if there was a way to dim it, we unfortunately couldn't find it.

Very nice place, clean and big enough, and had everything we needed. We asked for extra things (vacuum and thin blankets) and they were provided immediately. Toilet is upstairs, not downstairs where the bathroom is, but this worked out better at night when needing to go. Big bedrooms, nice shower/bath, nice quiet area close to the station and food/shopping. Would definitely reccommend.

There was so much space in this property. Spread over 3 floors. It was such a luxury to be able to sit at a table. Wet room/shower was also brilliant. The place feels brand new and traditionally Japanese all at the same time. 5 minutes walk from the train station.

There is no sound insulation. We could hear the couple next door just talking. If you got some noisy neighbours it would be a bit tricky. Also - if you smoke this place will not be for you. The hotel advise they will charge you ¥100,000 for smoking in the street outside the property.

An absolute dream. It felt like a home away from home. Checking in was easy and the taxi booked was so helpful after a long day exploring Arashiyama while the office held our luggage. The place was well heated/cooled and all the appliances worked and were pretty self explanatory. The beds were extremely comfortable, like falling into a cloud (yes, that dramatic haha). The location is perfect if you plan on frequenting the train station like we did. Food was easy to find, shopping right there—all the good stuff if you want to stick around the area. Overall, I was so sad to leave!

The bathtub was a bit of a puzzle but we made it work!
