I enjoyed my stay at Mustard Hotel. The style and atmosphere of the place was great. The staff were very helpful. The small cafe, bar and deck were very pleasant. It is a five minute walk to Shimokitizawa following the path of the railway line which has now been run underground. The hotel wasn't more than a few minutes walk to the new shopping area, restaurants and Tsutaya Books. The Troubled Peach, Mother and Heaven's Above are all nearby. A big arigatou gozaimasu to the guy running the cafe who found my dropped passport. Subarashi deshta. Shimokitazawa is getting trendier everyday but still keeps its originality. I think it was better twenty years ago but I would. It is a great place if you haven't been before. Be a polite visitor.

Shimokitazawa station is further away and it is slightly uphill to the hotel. A point to remember if you are dragging bags. The nearest railway station on the Odakyu Line is actually Higashi Kitazawa which is two minutes walk from the hotel if you ignore Google Maps and use your intelligence instead.

Trendy, great coffee, modern and funky young vibe. Tidy big rooms. Delightful walks in and out of Shimo.

Running the hotel on a budget for a non-budget price. We had to ask for everything we wanted, every day - from fresh towels to coffee bags. The cool staff were hit and miss.

Excellent coffee! Liked the minimalist style.

Would have been nice to have some tea bags in the room. And would be great to have more comfortable seating in the lobby for relaxing

Great location in a cool, little local area, close (but not too close) to Shibuya. The staff were friendly and helpful, the reception/coffee shop were vibey with a nice mix of like-minded travellers and locals. The coffee was great, a cosy bar and eclectic collection of records to borrow to play in your room. The rooms themselves were pretty simple and encouraged you to hang in the public areas downstairs. The train stations next door were convenient to get around Tokyo but the local area was great to hang in, too.

The rooms themselves were a bit ordinary compared to the rest of the vibe of the hotel but were serviceable to shower and sleep.

It's my second time staying here and I still feel great about this hotel. The amenities are reasonable and the design of the hotel is also quite well done, as expected for newer hotels in Tokyo. The best part of this hotel is its location, I'd book this again in a heartbeat just because it's located in/near Shimokitazawa. It's a part of the new development on the old Odakyu train tracks, so there are a bunch of new trendy shops and cafes in the immediate area. Within a 10 minutes walk towards Daita there is also a group of shops and restaurants forming the development "Bonus Track". Definitely go there to have a look. You can easily spend 1-2 days in Shimokitazawa alone with so many amazing shops and restaurants in the area. It is also very easy for you to get to Yoyogi-Uehra for Yoyogi Park and cafes in Kamiyama-cho. The same metro line can bring you to Harajuku, Shibuya and Kichijoji as well. I'd recommend this hotel for younger solo travellers or young couples who are keen to mingle with other people. Sidewalk coffee roasters is located in the lobby and they have amazing coffee. There's a outdoor seating area for guests to hang around and there is also a bar on site.

I guest this is the norm for hotels in Tokyo at this price range but the bathroom is very small, completely workable if you're travelling alone but it's a bit trickier if you're travelling with someone. The bathroom also smelled slightly of mildew. The hotel lobby still looks great but the corridors and rooms do look slightly beat-up with chipped paint and scuffed up walls. I can speak Japanese so it is fine for me but most of the staff don't speak much English.

The spacious rooms, soundproof walls, lots of hot water, the first floor window didn’t have a view but it could be opened, with privacy, for fresh air, the close, easy access to three train lines, the deck out front for sitting, eating and drinking, and watching people, the friendly and helpful front desk staff, the architecture with lots of natural light. Located in busy Shimokitazawa but on a quiet, peaceful, pleasant and sometimes lively neighborhood. Oh, it’s located on a pedestrians only street, fabulous. The mattress was made in Japan, it was the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on, good pillows. The linens are high quality.

For Your Information: The dryers take at least one hour to dry any amount of clothes, especially denim. The phonograph could be upgraded or maybe get a fresh needle.

We loved staying in Mustard Hotel. The location was great - near the subway to get into central Tokyo easily. There were lots of vintage clothes shops in Shimokitazawa and plenty of restaurant options at night. Staff in the hotel were super helpful and spoke great English. Although the hotel is located in a busy suburb of Tokyo, noise was not a problem and we were not disturbed at night. The cafe was a good option for a quick breakfast before heading out. I would definitely stay here again, everyone was so friendly.

Our bedroom was clean and well serviced, but possibly needed a fresh coat of paint here and there.

We loved the location. We wanted to be close to Shibuya and the more lively districts in Japan but also wanted peace and quiet in the evenings so this hotel was perfect for that. The room was perfect for what we needed. It was super clean and the bed was comfortable. The coffee shop downstairs was also such a lovely treat to have access to. Highly recommend this hotel as a base to explore Japan.

The bagels every morning for breakfast was very unique. I will admit that it was a bit heavy to have a bagel every morning so as feedback, it would be amazing to put the Granola bowl on the menu for people who don’t want to eat something so heavy. I did ask for it one morning so they are accommodating about this. The aircon was also a bit strange. The temperature was always a bit too cold but it didn’t bother us too much.

The location was amazing. If you're a traveller, love coffee, vinyl, vintage, and don't need the bells and whistles of mass tourism, this is the place for you. Situated within a 1 minute walk to the cool Shinokitazawa vintage, music and coffee district is a bonus. When it gets all too much, you can walk back to Mustard for a reprieve, and people watch from the open verandah. The staff are cool generation Z's and are not coolie cutter receptionists. The selection of vinyl is the icing. 3 choices to take to your room. This is an exceptional place for the culturally aware traveller. This will definitely be a stapled booking when I return to Tokyo.

I hadn't booked my entire stay in Tokyo at the Mustard.
