The place has very good vibes. The pool with the bar, the possibility to jump from 3m, and the smaller pool on the 1st floor were all very enjoyable. The net in front of our room on the 1st floor was also a very cool spot to relax. The personnel was kind and helpful, they helped us book a boat tour of the Laguna. We ate at the restaurant which is also very good.

The living space in the room (a double on the 1st floor over the pool) was very small. My wife and I are small and travel light, so we managed, but for bigger people and luggage it could become a little complicated to move around.

Location is fantastic, walking distance to many fantastic restaurants and a wonderful free pier to watch the sunrise. The staff were very friendly and kindly amended to the dates of our booking ahead of time. Quality of breakfast and the bar were very good value for money.

The door locking system was temperamental and security on the rooms could have been better because the passcodes were not complex especially given no safes in the rooms.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Makaaba! Staff are friendly, the pool area is stunning, with lots of options to lounge and a gorgeous big pool. The hotel restaurant (Waah) is absolutely brilliant. I loved the breakfast - you can have a savoury and a sweet option. Every morning I was excited to try something new, the choice is superb! I also ate dinner their on 2 occasions. Truly, everything that comes out of that kitchen is delicious. I liked my cosy loft bed and the bathroom was clean and spacious with lovely products to use. The location is very accessible too, close to the lagoon and a short walk from the main square. Would definitely stay again!

I was woken early several times (6am) by nearby construction and also music playing in the restaurant kitchen - it's maybe not the quietest place.

Awesome hotel, employees are amazing, facilities like the swimmingpool and the lounge areas are simply magnificent. Loved our 6 nights here! Breakfast is unheard of. You can choose a la carte from two dishes one sweet and one savory. Chefs in the kitchen deserve a tip / propina everyday. Lunch and diner are great too! Everything that comes out of that kitchen is delicious and real mexican food. Location to the lake just around the corner.

Nada except maybe the rooms are a bit small but it is as advertised.

A beautiful property by the lagoon in Bacalar, the pool was spectacular and we loved all the lounging options around the pool, the jumping platform was also good fun. Breakfast was delicious with a great selection of both more western and Mexican options. We also had a dinner at Waah the adjoining restaurant which was fantastic! The staff were very attentive, in particular Norman who went above and beyond to take care of us. We couldn’t recommend Hotel Makaaba more highly!

The only minor points were as it is an eco hotel by a lagoon there were several mosquitoes in the room, but staff helped up with bug spray. The mattress itself is great but the pillows are extremely flat and hard, would be amazing if a few different pillows were provided.

Loved the pool and lounging area. The yoga space with mats and equipment you could use was fantastic for a morning stretch. The staff are excellent and couldn’t be more helpful.

They have loud music pumping out of the bar by the pool from morning until night. So not ideal if you’re looking for a peaceful spot to relax and read a book. It would be perfect if the music was either not so loud or more chilled in style. Note the hotel does not have its own access to the lagoon. However one of the few free public access spots is 5 minutes walk away.

Everything about this hotel is amazing! The common areas are beautiful, cozy and relaxing. Very instagrammable. The restaurant on the property is outstanding - the sit-down breakfast is a la carte, with beautiful presentation (restaurant is a regular restaurant where one can have lunch and dinner). Amazing cocktails. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. Location is pretty great, too! We walked pretty much everywhere. It was a highlight of our stay and we would definitely recommend it

The loft rooms are pretty tiny, there is literally no space to put your clothes away, the loft bed (albeit comfy) is up steep witch stairs - if one is drunk or wants to go to the washroom at night - a tumble is guaranteed.

We had a wonderful stay. The location was perfect, the price was very reasonable, and the service from the reception and restaurant staff was excellent—friendly and always helpful. It was a great experience, and with a bit more attention to these details, it would be perfect. I would definitely consider staying here again!

The only minor drawbacks were some cleanliness details, specifically with the towels and bed linens, and a few maintenance issues. We had small problems with the door lock, and the hammock on the terrace was damaged.

Hotel was unique and different. Reception and bar staff were very friendly. The pool was beautiful and the dive platform was unusual. It was a quirky hotel by having the food grown on site for the restaurant.

The stairs to the bed is awkward enough if you were unsteady on your feet. I asked for my poached eggs to be well done and was told it was not possible so I ordered the omelette instead. On the second morning I asked to have the eggs well done as I do not like runny eggs - I had to send back the omelette as they were still very undone and when returned were still undone. The staff did not seem to want to help to try cook the food to our liking and it was like we were asking for something impossible to be done.

Small hotel with comfortable room and bed. We stayed in the king room and our son 27 yrs old stayed in a loft room with queen bed. The loft rooms are better suited to younger guests without mobility issues. Friendly staff. Good ambiance. Breakfast was really good. Convenient having the poolside bar for drinks. Loved this hotel very much.

Room smelled a little musty. Made it a little difficult to breathe, especially with the air freshners they use in the rooms. It would help if the rooms got some fresh air instead when not in use.
