The Hostel was super clean, bathroom and kitchen cleaned every day. Room was also spotless. Hostel is nice and quiet. Staff is super nice. I can recommend this place to everyone.

I would appreciate to have washing mashine available, but you can do washing in laundromat in town.

The mostly stuff was really friendly and polite. The location is perfect! Very clean property, the housmade is very very nice!

There are some strange rules like the kitchen is closet from 10am to 12am and therefore you need to speed yourself up if you need to have the breakfast there cause you really cannot use the kitchen between 10 and 12. Therefore is a bit uncomfortable, some of the stuff are just walking around and cheking so if they catch you F. E. In the kitchen in the forbiden time , they are starting to argue about the rules. Anything other really nice!

I stayed for five nights and had a fantastic experience! The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and they let me to store my luggage both before check-in and after check-out. I was initially a bit nervous about sharing a room with other guests, but it turned out to be totally fine. The bathroom was always spotless—it felt like a staff member cleaned it after every single use! I didn’t use the kitchen much aside from the fridge, but it was spacious and well-equipped with everything needed to cook a proper meal. I stayed in the "Sky" room by myself, and it was very spacious! The bed was comfortable, though I was a bit cold on the first morning—until I discovered extra blankets in the wardrobe. After that, I slept like a baby! The location was perfect for me—just far enough for a nice little uphill walk, but close enough to still feel connected to the action.

I’ll gladly be back :)

I really liked the privacy of having my own room and the ability to spread my luggage out. The bathroom was shared but also for 1 at a time. The shared spaces are clean & comfortable. The staff member who greeted me was very helpful, and friendly.

I wasn't able to drop off a bag early, which ended up being okay in my situation because I was switching from another place to this hostel and was able to keep my bags there until the afternoon. However, if I had had an early flight in, it would have been an inconvenience finding somewhere to store luggage until check-in time.

I had a great experience at this hostel. It's conveniently located near the old town in a peaceful environment. We were warmly welcomed by Katarina, who provided us with all the necessary information. Despite the shared spaces like the kitchen and bathroom, everything was clean and well-maintained, and the towels were new and soft. The only drawback was the lack of proper ventilation in the room, making it feel stuffy, and the absence of an air conditioning unit.

I stayed for a very short time, but the location is good, the place is nice. It was clean and well equipped.

The check-in closing time was a bit of a stress point for me, as I was delayed due to unavoidable factors like flight schedule changes and car rental paperwork. I understand that these things happen, but I would have appreciated a bit more flexibility. The bathroom window that opens into the kitchen was a bit of an annoyance. The lack of a proper seal meant that any noise from the bathroom was amplified and echoed through the kitchen. This made it difficult to enjoy the space and relax. I would recommend adding some soundproofing to the kitchen. A decorative soundproofing panel or piece of furniture with vibrant colors and patterns would not only improve the acoustics but also add a touch of personality to the room. Beside that, the bedroom and the location were super cool.

We had an amazing stay at this hotel during our trip to Madeira! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist with a smile. The rooms and facilities were spotless, and the atmosphere was peaceful, perfect for relaxation. The location was also good—convenient and close to everything we needed. Highly recommend!

We only stayed 1 night, but we were very happy this accommodation. Simple room, yet comfortable. Shared bathroom and kitchen. Everything was very clean and often taken care of. The receptionest was super nice, she explained everything and showed us how things work. If we ever back to Funchal, we surely will stay here again!

Our room in FX was nice, spacious and mostly clean. They have provided 2 warm blankets and a cover, which was enough to stay warm in bed in the winter. The bathroom (shared with 3 other rooms) was tidy and very spacious, same as the kitchen. I didn't have issues sharing the bathroom and kitchen (with every room occupied), it's not as crowded as other people suggest. In general our stay was comfortable. I liked the eating area outside. The neighborhood felt safe and there were some places to leave our rented car on the street. The young lady that did our check-in and toured us around the house was very nice and helpful - definitely deserves a raise! Overall I liked our stay in FX Pena, would recommend it.

- our duvet cover was dirty and we had to use our other blankets/sheets to separate it from our bodies - there's an air-conditioning device, but it doesn't have an option to warm up the room - we visited Funchal in the winter. But you can manage with the blankets and the cover provided by the Hostel. - communication issues with the host - we weren't sure if they would let us in after 22:00, even after reaching an agreement on the phone. - no parking on the property of the hostel (but you can find a spot outside and walk from there)
