Grand old mansion, restored and transformed into a hotel. Location is on Praça da República, which is a 10 walk from the main Trindade metro station, so it is easy to get around the city on foot or by public transport. Staff was very kind and efficient, ready to help whenever needed. Everything was clean and neat, the room exactly as pictured on Booking. There was a nice common area where one could have breakfast or hang out, a luggage room if needed and elevator. I would definitely consider returning!

Nothing wrong - just a word of caution for those who don't know Porto. The garden in Praça da República is undergoing construction work. Also, sometimes there are some shady characters about the square, though they never give anyone any problems. I walked around alone, both during the daytime and night-time (for example, when coming "home" from late dinners) - nobody ever gave me any problems.

Such a cute and charming place. The building is older and that shows, but if you love history and architecture than it's lovely. They have worked hard on updating and it shows. Is it a luxury resort? No, but it is a quaint and lovely place to stay. The staff is so much fun and the breakfast is simple but very good. The location is absolutely wonderful. Not directly in the tourist area so fairly quite, but so close and the walk is easy.

The only negative I can really think of are the towels. They weren't the greatest, but in the grand scheme of things it really didn't matter.

Clean and characterful property. Friendly and helpful staff. Room functional and adequate for the three night stay I had. Would have been so for a slightly longer booking also, in my view. Excellent shower. Extremely good value for money. Central position for our plans. Less than 30 minutes walk to Ribeira, and not too steep back from there. Less than 10 minutes walking from Lapa or Trindade Metro stations.

Only there for three nights, but my travelling companion would have appreciated some storage for her clothes rather than the racks provided. Not something which concerned me for a short stay. Am making this comment only for other's information so there are no surprises.

Our room was gorgeous, really high ceilings and lovely wooden blackout blinds with thin curtains. Everything was really well done, very clean and tidy too. Bed was comfy and we had a lot of space, with hanging rails and shelves for our clothes. Location was also great, really central in walking distance to the main parts of the city, but tucked away in a quiet location. Breakfast was good, laid out nicely and everything we needed to start the day well. It didn't feel too busy or crowded.

1) Location of the property is great, not in the most touristy location, but quiet close to it (1-2.5 kms). So the surroundings are not crowded and yet not far from all the happening places. 2) Every single person in the staff are wonderful, shout out especially to Mr Jorge. He is funny, friendly and extremely kind. 3) Beautiful property, gorgeous staircase, nice big rooms. 4) Clean and extra attention is given to cleanliness.

Everything was great, the staff was amazing, also the room very comfortable and clean. The breakfast could have been better, maybe adding some eggs on the menu.

We booked two nights with breakfast included, but unfortunately had to leave very early on our second morning to catch a flight and couldn’t benefit from the breakfast that day. It would have been appreciated if there was some flexibility, like offering a takeaway breakfast or adjusting the price slightly. Other than that, our stay was pleasant.

We stayed at Rex Hotel with our daughter of 9 months old and we love it! The hotel was very family friendly, the room was spacious and warm. The bathroom was clean and efficient and the shower hot and with pressure. We choose the room with a splendid terrace. The location is perfect, close to Lapa metro station and Trindade. We will come back for sure!

Only two things could be improved, but they didn't affect too much our stay. The carpet of our room needs renovation/substitution and the curtain needs to be fixed in one side.

Overall the hotel was in a perfect location and the facilities lovely. Our room was just what we needed. The breakfast was very nice and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

More work could be done on sound proofing as we could hear the bathrooms next to our room but it was ok but not great when you had a late arrivals. Our cistern was dripping but we did report it.

Loved that it was an old mansion and still had a lot of the features. It was clean and comfortable and all the staff were exceptional. The location was easy to find and easy to get to all the sights in Porto. Would definitely stay here again.

Unfortunately due to the nature of the building and because we were there in the early spring it was very windy, and the noise coming in at the side window disturbed our sleep. Which wasn’t good 🙁 It sounded like a freight train whistling through. Then also when the wind was bad at the terrace doors they just rattled all night !! So another disturbed night which took until the early hours before could sleep ie after 3am ! Reception did try to see if they could fix the whistling window but not successful due to nature of the building . Also surprised no heated towel rail or radiator in the bathroom. This meant had to have towels changed daily as we couldn’t have dried them to reuse like we would normally do to do our bit for saving the planet.

Location was good for being out of the thick of the crowds yet still walkable to a lot of main attractions. It was also a short walk to the local tram stop. We were thankful to find a cute playground a couple blocks from the hotel on the way to the tram stop. We liked the charm of the older building. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good and just enough to keep us satisfied for the morning. We were travelling with our young son and they were able to set up a rollaway bed for him.
