Room was lovely, bed comfortable and the view over the river was great. Housekeeping was great. Breakfast was excellent and we loved the outside views, selection available and how beautifully the lady on the egg counter made the eggs benedict and omelettes - i.e. not overcooked. The bar toasted sandwich was great value, All the staff were great and so helpful and welcoming. Welcome tour of hotel and room were excellent. They also gave good recommendations when asked. When I hurt myself in Porto they were so caring when I got back to the hotel, cleaning and dressing my arm and bringing ice packs for my head. Everyone was so kind - of particular mention were Tiago, Inês and Paulo. We would definitely come again.

Apart from the wonderful breakfast buffer, the ceasar sald and toasted sandwich in the bar we were unattracted by the restaurant menu which seemed limited, not much of our taste and a bit overpriced. The typesize in the room guide was so small it was difficult to read but you only had to ask staff at reception and they were very helpful. The TV controls didn't work very well and the TV instructions on the initial screen appeared in German, the system was slow to change, the account information screen showed transactions from previous guest.

February) but the morning sun shining through the windows made it feel warm. Staff were lovely – nothing too much trouble – with the exception of the main man in the restaurant, who had an abrupt, brusque and offhand manner. The Avantgarde is just ten-minutes (ish) walk up the road to Livraria Lello and the Torre dos Clerigos (don’t miss the Spiritus illuminations!) and around 20 minutes to the airport (our Uber cost just €11!). There’s a lovely park nearby that’s worth visiting, with peacocks and more great views. Fab views of the both Porto and the Gaia side of the river from the hotel. The steam room, sauna and pools felt like a real selling point when we booked, but we found so much to do in Porto during our six days day that we didn’t use them.

Very little! Though more hooks in the bedroom (even inside the wardrobe) would’ve been helpful.

Our stay at Torel Avantgarde was exceptional. The location and views were stunning, and the staff provided impeccable service throughout our visit. The breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of high-quality options. Our room was uniquely designed, with incredible attention to detail that made the experience feel truly special. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as the welcome drink on arrival and the chocolates before bed, which made our stay even more memorable. The only improvement we’d suggest is providing more complimentary water in the rooms, as one refillable bottle for two guests wasn’t quite sufficient. Overall, Torel Avantgarde exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend it for a luxurious and unique stay in Porto with good value for money.

Room is spacious, bed is comfortable, breakfast is fantastic. But the most memorial was the staff: very attentive, polite and helpful. All staff are quite young, energetic and eager to help.

The only thing that we didn't like is the TV facility in the room. It is not a smart TV, quite outdated with no online features, no YouTube or stream TV access, with no USB or HDTV ports. I think that the management has to look onto it and perhaps make a small investment.

It’s a really exceptional leisure and I love everything about this place: staff for sure, cleanliness, location, view, number of amenities and fabulous breakfast, of course, not to mention spa! I stayed there not for the first time, and we were with a small baby. The baby and I are quite sensitive to noise at night. So, it was not a fault of the hotel, but sometimes there are trucks coming to grab a trash from trash cans in the street, and we woke up at night. However, I talked to staff about that, and they did everything possible, that’s why other nights we slept very well. For sure, we’ll come again next time! Top recommendation for all, don’t miss your chance to be kept in good hands where people care about other people ❤️

All perfect

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Torel Avantgarde in Porto, and we must say it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we stepped into this stunning property, we were blown away by the elegant design and warm atmosphere. The real highlight of my stay, however, was the exceptional service provided by the staff. A heartfelt thank you to the front desk reception team, who greeted us with genuine smiles and ensured every aspect of our stay was seamless. Special thanks to the Night Auditor, who went above and beyond to assist us during late hours with unparalleled professionalism. The restaurant staff also deserves immense praise for their attentiveness and for making each meal feel like a curated experience. The property itself is beautiful, with luxurious rooms that blend comfort and style, offering breathtaking views of Porto. Every corner of the hotel seemed thoughtfully designed to provide a unique and relaxing environment. Torel Avantgarde is truly a gem in Porto, and we cannot recommend it enough. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you for making our stay so special!

The staff were unbelievable!! From the moment we walked in through the entrance, they were so helpful and willing to go out of their way at any given opportunity. The breakfast was lovely and there were enough options for my little one who especially enjoyed the kids meals at the restaurant in the evening. Room service is 10/10 as well. Honestly, this is a must recommend for anyone who wants to stay in Porto. It’s just a few minutes walk from the main part of the city and a great location just to get in and out for whatever you wish. You can get a map of the city from reception and staff have great knowledge of things to do as well as places to see. Ubers are so cheap and cheerful as well (make sure you use Uber or bolt or you’ll get scammed). The rooms are cleaned literally twice daily and the fridges restocked. Honestly, a beautiful place to stay!!

That I couldn’t stay longer

Without any doubt, this Hotel deserves any accolade that is bestowed on it. They provided an exceptional experience from the moment we were greeted at the door, to the early breakfast they provided for our 06.00hrs departure. Having booked a standard room we were amazed to be offered a complimentary upgrade to the Virginia Woolf suite which is stunning in itself but part of the architecturally wonderful annexe. Adriana, who met us at the reception and was our guide to the hotels facilities, was genuinely charming and excited to see our reactions, starting with the mundane (bar, dining area, spa etc) and then as the tour progressed revealing the more exotic aspects such as the superb balcony view and all the special extras of the 'Woolfe suite'. The hand writing greeting accompanying the 'Fizz, chocs and fruit' with text taken from Virginia Woolf's writing indicated the staff were providing a degree of thought beyond the ordinary. All the staff (and there were many) were friendly and helpful but some were obviously proud and enthusiastic to be part of the 'Torel family' which enhanced the assurance that the Hotel ethos was to offer their guests the best experience possible.

I don't like this heading... The greater a hostel (from B&B to Luxury Hotel) endeavours to create the best experience for their guest's, the more 'nit-picking' the response will be. Everyone has personal preferences and aspects that irritate and no matter how insightful a staff member endeavours to be, they cannot read minds. Did every aspect of our Torel Avantgarde stay reach 100%? No. It is impossible for that to happen, but the quality of presentation was superb, the effort of staff to make it the best experience they could produce is praise worthy and our appreciation of our stay in Torel Avantgarde will stay in our memories for many years.

We've stayed a lot of five-star hotels all around the world, and this was probably one of our favorites we've ever stayed at. From the moment you walk in, you already feel welcomed from the entire team, and they treat you like family. We stayed in five different cities during our tour through Portugal, and we certainly saved the best hotel in Porto for last. The accommodations, views, personnel, food, and amenities were all top-notch. I've already started recommending this place to all my friends when they visit, and I can't wait to visit again. We will 100% be back:)!!

Nothing, everything was exceptional!! You do need to get an Uber or Taxi to get into the heart of downtown, but it's a short and cheap ride (5-6 euros one-way.) If you enjoy walking, it's like a 15-20 minute walk, which really isn't that bad.

Wonderful location with the views to be admired day and night. What a luxury to wake up and be able to enjoy slow morning in the balcony with such a stunning panorama around! Quiet place, stylish interior, very comfortable beds. Helpful personnel available also at night. They took care of our car as well. I truly recomend for a relaxing stay in Porto!

The lighting in the room could be a bit stronger. The towels should be softer.
