The warm welcome at reception. The well equipped room with mini fridge, safe, bath. The room was discreetly maintained each morning.

With the population of Exeter and neighbouring towns increasing there is now a lot of traffic using the ring-road immediately outside the hotel. There is a fair amount of rumble, screeching of brakes and sounding of horns particularly during rush hours. I visited during a heat wave so had to make the choice of opening the windows and hearing the traffic or close the window and hear the air-conditioning. If it hadn’t been for this minor niggle my stay at the Devon Hotel would have been absolutely perfect!

We liked the location, easy to get the bus into the city. Good parking, nice comfy bed, bedding and towels. Our room at the back was very quiet. Good breakfast choices. Staff are all welcoming and friendly.

Bathroom in need of a deep clean. Pipes, ledges and grouting were all dirty. Safe fascia was grimy. Bed base needed cleaning along the seams. Awful cheap loo paper that falls apart on your hands. Some hooks for coats, dressing gowns etc would be good. Hook on the back of the bathroom door was hopeless. Lovely and shiny but everything fell off!

We booked because it was very close to family that we were visiting (arriving late due to traffic delays). We loved the air conditioned Motel style room (with outside area and parking space). The Pub and restaurant being next door was also very convenient. The breakfast was of excellent quality and serving staff were very efficient.

We didn’t require much at all during our stay but I wasn’t impressed by a couple of passing interactions with staff. A girl on reception didn’t seem very interested when I reported a faulty reading light on departure and a girl behind the bar walked off and didn’t return when we asked for our water bottles to be filled. So a bit of Customer Service training might help here.

The staff are an exemplary representation of the reputation that the hotel thrives on as a high quality standard of service.

The hotel could with more disability friendly rooms. Consideration put in to prevent slipping and falling in bathrooms. Allergy friendly cleaning products used, soaps, condiments etc. Bath mats that are latex free backed as latex is a common allergy now. A little child’s welcome pack to add that little personal touch to families staying. I wouldn’t say it’s what I don’t like but more what could be improved to add more comfort and safety. A few more disabled parking spots could be added too.

The room was clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It also had an amazing restaurant where we ate breakfast and evening meals. I was excited to hear we had AC as it was VERY warm, a bath and the bed was huge, but I had a slight issue with the bathroom, a mobility issue which isn't usually a problem made the bathroom VERY hard to navigate as it was exceptionally small. The staff were amazing and sorted it straight away by moving us to another room with a bigger bathroom. But we did have to forfeit the bath and huge bed. Room was lovely though

The bathrooms in the main building are so small, there is no room to dry and even washing my hands meant the spray from the sink soaked me as I were so close

We were on a tour around the south west and this was the best hotel we stayed in. Great location with loads of parking (right outside our room). Room had everything just right. Air con, adaptable lighting (I have sight issues) bath and shower and electric sockets near the mirrors for haircare (usually they are on the other side of the room and you end up doing everything sideways). The bed was very comfy and the quilt light and not too warm. The Carriages Restaurant on site was also brilliant, lovely decor and amazing food and service.

Nothing to dislike. Everything was great and would definitely return.

Breakfast was very good for a large hotel. We did book into the restaurant for a carvery meal which was outstanding. The room was basic but had everything we needed for our 2 night stay.

Because we had been travelling around Devon for a couple of weeks before we got to the Devon hotel we had large suitcases which were a bit awkward to manoeuvre up the stairs and steps in the corridor and entrance to the room. Maybe an offer of someone to help with this could have been provided as we are not spring chickens though someone did offer to help going down the stairs as we were leaving.

Location is idea for access to local business centres and road network. Easy access for walking and running down to the canal. Pleasant bar area and good selection of beers and ciders and menu.

Unfortunately my television )room 108) was broken and although it had a picture the audio/volume was not working and despite a visit to reception to ask somebody to look at it they were unable to remedy as a new television is needed and were very apologetic, I only discovered the TV was broken when I got back from a 4 mile walk at about 18.15hrs, so reported fault at reception on my way to get my evening meal. I was offered an Executive room, but at 20.30hrs I really did not want the hassle of changing rooms, at that time of evening so did without the TV for the rest of the evening and used my own laptop which although acceptable was not ideal. I reminded reception staff on my checkout the the TV was unserviceable and they were very apologetic again.

Lovely lunch had. Nicely presented and happy staff. Lovely welcome from the gentleman on reception. Room lovely and clean. Only slight thing was noise from Road and works being carried out on roundabout but didn’t spoil our stay over.

Nothing that you could control. Traffic on road I am afraid nothing you can do about that but wouldn’t stop us staying again. Your Workmen decided to saw a metal sign to replace with another. It was extremely noisy. We were sat, with other guests on the small patio eating so maybe it could have waited till after we had eaten.

Friendly staff made to feel welcome. The room was clean no issues with facilities. Food options included vegetarian where good. The car park had plenty of spaces and was free to use. Matford Park and ride is 8 minutes walk from the Hotel we used this get into Exeter.

The second evening there was some noise quite late. I think this was outside the hotels control and down to some inconsiderate guests
