The hotel is very centrally located, and everything can easily be reached on foot, which was very convenient. The breakfast was delicious, and the ladies in the breakfast service were especially friendly and polite – they really made our mornings very pleasant. We didn’t use the pool, but it looked nice and well maintained.

Our room was a bit noisy since it was facing the street, although this was not a major problem. What really disappointed us, however, was finding a cockroach on our bed only 10 minutes after checking in. This was quite unpleasant, as the room should be properly cleaned and ready for guests.

It was in the heart of the town, the turn down service was lovely with biscuits on the bed.

I didn’t like the over sell of tours and felt like I was being made money out of, and was in a difficult situation when I paid x amount and only some of that reached the person and they was saying it wasn’t enough. I just think offering a tour service should be there to provide a good service to clients with good deals.

This hotel is located on Jaws Corner in the centre of the warren of narrow streets and alleys that is historic Stonetown (so the taxis cannot drop you at the door). You are surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the town and walking in the busy local streets you have to pay attention to the bicycles and small motorbikes weaving their way through. The breakfast buffet on the rooftop terrace featured local dishes as well as typical Continental breakfast options. Dinner was very tasty. The pool is small but there is an arrangement with another nearby hotel to use their bigger, nicer pool. The staff at both places were all very friendly and helpful.

Not all of the electrical sockets worked so we had to unplug the fridge to boil the kettle. A minor inconvenience.

I would say very good for the price I paid. Very good breakfast and location perfect. I haven’t used the gym but the swimming pool was ok. The cleaner come twice a day, morning to clean the room and the second time to spray if your room got mosquitoes, they will also come with biscuits.

Between the rooms, receptions or restaurant it is an open space and if there is a rain you will get wet, specially the water comes from the rooftop, unfortunately I have travelled during the raining season but if you travel in a dry season this is not relevant!

Best location in Stone Town. You will need to take a walk through the narrow passages to the accommodation as the car can’t pass, but it’s not far. Do not mind the people in those passages, it is safe and they are minding their own business. The roof restaurant is a nice place to get a view of the area and I loved their seafood platter. Breakfast is a buffet and lots of fruits included. The internet was working great for me. Comfortable bed and a good AC. Walking distance to the ATM, market and the famous “Welcome to Zanzibar” jumping guys at the beach. Stayed 1 night and if you’re looking for paradise, this is not it.

Met all my expectations.

I read a lot of bad reviews on this property prior to my stay. Unfortunately, I went to Zanzibar on a whim and did not book a hotel prior, so I ended up at Spice Palace for my one-night stay. I must say, the room was perfect for what I needed for the night. It was clean, temperature controlled, there was a mosquito net protecting the bed, and there was even a large balcony attached to the room. The rooftop restaurant had great food options, the common areas were clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be staying at Spice Palace the next time I visit Zanzibar.

Nothing really. Everything was perfect for what I needed for my one-night stay on the island.

The bed was very comfortable and the shower facility was very good. The breakfast spot had a lovely view and was on a rooftop. Every morning when I went to breakfast I was met with a very friendly greeting.. The swimming pool was lovely, there are chairs to sit on by the pool and towels are provided.. I arrived at 2am and the check in was no problem.

As a solo traveler and my first time in Stone Town, I was very nervous to walk down the narrow streets by myself, but it turned out to be quite safe. .

Very close to the Old Town and ferry terminal. Lovely breakfast buffet style. Huge bed Room had fridge and safety box (but didn't work).

Everything was adequate. 10am check out time.

Well appointed room, some nice design touches, very central location

Breakfast was on a beautiful terrace but the meal itself was disappointing. Awful coffee and not a great selection of food. The hotel is quite hard to find in a maze of streets.

The location was excellent - very central in Stone Town and a great base for exploring. The room was clean and nice, and was serviced every day. The rooftop restaurant was lovely and very convenient, with cheap cocktails and a good view! There was a good choice of food at breakfast, and we got to try lots of new things which was exciting (although don't expect European/American-style breakfast options). Other reviews have complained about the WiFi but I never had any issues with it. You can organise excursions from the hotel which is convenient.

The property is in the centre of Stone Town, so as is to be expected, it was noisy. You can hear people, animals and the call to prayer during the night/early morning, but this wasn't a problem for us because we took ear plugs. The safe in our room didn't seem to work, and the key card stopped working every day which was inconvenient and annoying (but the reception staff fixed this quickly for us). Felt ripped off by the Prison Island excursion. Would suggest exploring prices elsewhere first, you're essentially only paying for the boat trip over there (guide non-existent and entry fees not included!)
