The place feels like home. The staff working there are willing to be your friends and you may likely end up with offered ramen. I was traveling alone but the yoga & onigiri dinner evening with the staff and other guests at the facility gave me a chance to socialize and enjoy my stay even more.

It was my first onsen experience and it was a nice introduction to the onsen culture in Japan. The staff were generally very courteous and helpful. The capsule sleeping area was spacious and provided some privacy despite the shared living arrangements. I love the calm lighting in the place. The location was very convenient as it is only a mere few seconds to a minute's walk from the Jinjashita bus stop--easy to get to Motohakone for the cruise and also easy to get to Hakone-Yumoto town. But what we love the best about this place is the dining and lounge area. It provides so many kitchen tools and utensils for us to use and we could whip up a nice decent meal, but the icing on the cake was the interior design. It was lovely and was a nice combo of the traditional and the modern.
Could have some shower rooms separate from the onsen available for more privacy. I didn't like the idea that the shower rooms were only available at the B3 floor sharing space with the onsen. Also, not enough toilets.

Stayed in the female dormitory, and the beds were comfy, plus there were blinds that hid the bed openings so could feel some privacy. The onsen was very clean, spacious, and comfortable as well, and the outdoor onsen was very nice. The shared common spaces were also very cozy with everything you need from a kitchen, cooking utensils, comic books, sockets on the desks so you could work, etc. As a solo traveler it was one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at, with consideration for guests extended to every corner of the place.
There are some stairs that you need to climb down to get to the reception, and it was a bit difficult carrying my luggage down. The street leading to the hostel is also quite narrow and can be dangerous when the cars are speeding by. Also, the indoor slippers tend to get mixed up when you take them off at the common spaces, so wish they came with room numbers so that people wouldn't wear yours.

My second time staying here, great place with onsen, great facilities and easily access by bus. Chill place.
The staff on our last night of stay, understand that we should keep our volume low at the common area after certain timing, however your staff on duty that night asked us not to speak, and in contrast, he went on slamming the cupboards and stuff while doing his routine cleaning. It was the first time we observed that everyone was back in their room and almost all light are dimmed at the common area..there were people around the past few nights. Every other staff we met are perfectly fine and welcoming.

Although we forgot we booked the shared room, everyone was super quiet and nice. The onsen was great, and the outside one was even better (although hotter than usual). The staff was extremely friendly. The place was nice, and the common room even had games and they had activities.
Not big-luggage friendly! We had two big suitcases because we were at the end of our trip, and we had to carry them up and down several stairs. Also, there’s no place to store them privately. And from the bus stop to the entrance there’s pretty much no sidewalk. The pillow was uncomfortable for me, but my fiancé’s was comfortable.

So serene, peaceful, and relaxing! After two bustling days in Tokyo, Hakone and staying at Tatsuya was the absolute perfect change of pace. Love that they have both indoor and outdoor onsen and how early and late you can use, definitely made use of that benefit! Lounge was soo comfortable and vibey, read some manga and did origami :)
I suppose the stairs from the road were a bit annoying but they have a convenient elevator once you enter! Closest Tozan line was a 12min walk away and dragging my suitcase there was a bit of a hassle but bearable. I suggest taking the bus!

We enjoyed the traditional looking rooms and accommodation, friendly staff, lovely room supplies: tea, biscuits, bottles of water, bathroom supplies etc The female/male indoor onsen was clean, well-stocked with everything you could need and wonderfully relaxing. The common lounge was well designed and had a great kitchen facility.
No showers available unless you use the onsen. When they said shared bathrooms available we thought that included basic showering facilities but it only has toilets available on each floor and showers within the onsen - for onsen users only.

The lovely man who owns this place was so helpful and even gave us a lift to the start of the nakasendo trail (Magome to Tsumago) and gave us some insights to animals we’d see on the trail. He also gave us recommendations for where to eat in the area and helped us get a reservation at a nearby restaurant as it was quite late in the evening already! The guesthouse itself was wonderful and had heating in all the main rooms, vinyl records to choose from and a fridge to store food. The beds were so so comfy and the bedding was so soft and warm. I would definitely come again!

a fantastic place! we stayed in the dorm beds but the amenities made it feel like a luxury. we spent so much time relaxing. indoor and outdoor onsen were both so lovely, highly recommend renting the comfortable robes for your stay (500¥). kitchen is well equipped and spacious. I’d recommend doing some research on sento/onsen etiquette if you are new to Japan before you stay as well :) our only feedback was that the mattresses in the dorm beds were quite thin, and it would be nice to have light switches at the entrances rather than at the back of the cubbies. arigato gozaimasu, we’d love to come back!
it’s not really something we didn’t “like” (we loved everything!) but there were some guests who had recently arrived to Japan and didn’t know onsen etiquette yet. Tsutaya has little posters up, but I think having really clear signage at the entrances of the indoor onsen about having thorough showers before getting in, and at the exits to dry off before entering the changeroom tatami mats would help preserve this beautiful space ♨️

-I loved everything about this place! The onsens were clean and so great. The staff were so great; communicative, helpful and accommodating. The rooms were actually super spacious and comfortable. The people in my room were respectful and quiet for the most part (I did wear earplugs to sleep because the door opening/closing was loud). The common area was SO nice and had everything you needed and had enough room for everyone to either get to know each other or for you to have your own space. The bus stop is right out front and the closest train is like 15min away (not too bad). I personally preferred using the train to get to attractions. The view and vibes were amazing. I really wish I stayed longer. Would absolutely stay here again!
I loved everything about it! Not a big negative but just as a warning that there aren’t food options for dinner past a certain time so you’d have to get stuff from 7/11 to eat or cook
