The room was lovely and had all the amenities that you could need, the staff were friendly and helpful, I have stayed at a total of 6 hotels so far during my trip to Japan and this one had the nicest most spacious room by far

Unfortunately the other guests were really loud, and for some reason felt that 11pm was a good time to bath their child, who they sing to during the bath, then once he gets out the Barth he runs round the room shouting, although the hotel can’t be held responsible for the habits of their guest, it did highlight that some of the connecting wall in the rooms are quite thin

This is a splendid little ‘inn’ tucked away in the back streets not far from Kyoto University. I selected this accommodation for its location as I was visiting my daughter who is studying at Kyoto University. My room was larger than I needed but it was spotless and is easily warmed as the weather was cold. It was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable. I stayed two nights and my room was serviced, which was an unnecessary surprise. I hardly saw the staff and when I did they were very friendly. The wifi is good and after hours access is via a pin pad. I would highly recommend this place for those looking for a simple comfortable stay in Kyoto.

Hospitality and comprehensive support are what you get when staying at this hotel. I would especially recommend it to those traveling to Japan for the first time. I was personally shown around and informed about everything nearby, and was assisted in purchasing everything I needed for my stay in Japan (including medication, help with SIM cards, etc.). Naturally, the cleanliness of the room and the full range of services are top-notch. It is also worth mentioning the traditional Japanese atmosphere in the design, which helps you relax after a long flight. I definitely plan to take advantage of their tours of local attractions in the future. I would also like to emphasize that the hotel owners are very responsive and willing to help you navigate the city.

Such a great stay! The room was big and beautifully Japanese in style, with a lovely little garden. Everything was well-equipped, the staff were super friendly, and they cleaned the room every day. I really loved the whole experience!

Since the room follows a traditional style, the soundproofing wasn’t perfect — but the real issue came from the inconsiderate guests upstairs. Still, this place is a 10 out of 10 for me！

The owners are wonderful and incredibly kind and helpful and made the stay work. The location near a bathhouse is fantastic. I loved the room, it is really beautiful and delicately decorated.

The Inn has no facilities, so one must anticipate it is a no frills kind of place to stay but immaculate and in a peaceful area with everything you need not far. The general area is quite residential but very useful to be near Kyoto University.

We loved loved loved our stay at Marikoji! The area is near a university and has such a cozy vibe with a river nearby and lots of places to eat. At the same time it is only a few minutes walk to the train station, making it very easy to get to all tourist sites. The hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly. We stayed in the japanese style tatami room with a lovely view from the balcony. Everything was clean, there was lots of space and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely come back here if we visit Kyoto again.

Nothing really.

I stay at this inn with my family for two weeks. Our room was spacious, even though three of us lodged in it, and spotless, with crisp bed sheets every day—which I learned they use a thing called koro-koro to make it happen. The surrounding area is a residential area, so it is peaceful, but it is not so far from a bus shelter or train station. So strategic.  The owner of the inn and staff were attentive and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable. All of them can fluently speak English and are very helpful. We can ask them everything: supermarket location, directions to a lot of places, and also help us with the crane origami tutorial. We feel like we stay in our relatives' houses for all their hospitality and kindness. Even I felt sad when we left the inn to fly back home. Awkward! But in a good way. I strongly suggest everybody stay at this little “warm” inn while visiting Kyoto.

I must say that everything else was perfect. I had some minor problems with the door lock, but they were immediately solved. The hosts are very kind and care for guests as if they were part of the family. I could enjoy a small courtyard, and the inn is very convenient if you need to visit Kyoto University.

The only aspect that required improvement was the internet connection; its speed and stability were not up to the expected standards.

Location was peaceful and quiet. I had thought it would be a crowded neighborhood, but was pleasantly surprised at how serene and remote it felt. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful.

Tanaka Oicho gets you right to the front door, but drivers had problems getting to the Inn. Since we weren't so familiar with navigating the streets, we mostly had them drop us at the corner near the Green Farm pastry shop. It's only a 2-3 min walk from there. The other side streets are too narrow for most taxi to attempt the turns required.
