Such a lovely little hotel. It is quiet with no noise from the village - just birds and alps. The staff were very helpful, the views incredible and the room was clean and comfortable. Great breakfast and the lounge and terrace wonderful to relax in. Also really useful was being able to store luggage after check out down at the hotel near the train station.

Only thing to remember is that it is a steep walk up from the station with your bags, so keep that in mind when booking. There are no stairs on the way and the path is paved but the last part is rather steep.

Great location. Beautiful view of the mountain. Good breakfast in a nice and cozy dining room. Friendly staff.

Location high up on the hill reachable on foot only is not suitable for elderly or people who are not in good physical shape. Front desk not always staffed but can be easily contacted via WhatsApp. Single room was a bit cramped.

The breakfast was generally standard, although could have had some additional items like boiled eggs and becher muesli or plain yoghurt

The hotel parking was not made clear in the description of the hotel in the Booking website, although available was not part of the hotel itself but down the path. Also the hotel elevation was not clear also as for myself who is problem with lung capacity was rather a climb to get up the footpath. Had this been known I may not have booked it. Otherwise the view was spectacular from the room balcony

Very close to train station and grocery. Quiet area. Great WiFi. Excellent views. Nice breakfast.

During the day I could hear people talking in the room next to mine very clearly. Extremely steep walk to the hotel, this is the sacrifice for the views. Very difficult to walk even without any luggage, every time it was a workout. Part of the road to the hotel was totally dark in the evening, that part is far away from the hotel so very likely not managed by the hotel, however you have to walk through it in complete darkness to get to the hotel.

Incredible views, and close proximity to the town restaurants, rooms were nice with balcony, breakfast was good, staff was very kind helpful and knowledgeable. Parking was convenient.

No complaints - just two simple note that we were aware of when we booked: Due to the great views overlooking the town, there is a sizable hill to walk up (even from the parking area) with luggage. Parking was convenient, however only 6 spots so during busy season, imagine that it fills up easily.

The Hotel Sonnenberg was well signposted and easy to find from the Grindelwald train station. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the station which is all uphill and gets steeper closer to the hotel, but this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone with standard fitness. We had a self-service check-in as we arrived after 4pm but this was well organised. We highly recommend booking a double room with a mountain view as the views were spectacular! The room was small with two single beds pushed together, the beds were comfortable and were remade daily. Complimentary coffee pods and hot water were provided. The bathroom has a shower and a bath but the shower area was not very spacious. Breakfast is available from 07:30 and we found there to be a limited choice of options, however a couple of croissants and a cup of tea was a fair start to the day. There's about a 5-10 minute downhill walk to the main street, although uphill on the way back. Overall good value for money and the views from the hotel were just incredible.

My stay at Sonnenber was wonderful. The check-in process was a breeze, thanks to the flexibility of the property manager. Do prepare yourself for a bit of a climb, as the hotel is situated on a hill - but then again, this is the Alps, and the hills are all part of the adventure! The property itself was stunning, and I was greeted each morning with a lovely breakfast. While it's true that most rooms are a bit on the narrow side, there are more spacious rooms available in the off-property side lodging. Regardless of where you stay, you're guaranteed a stunning view. All in all, a memorable stay!

The staff was friendly, and I think we were greeted by the owner. They explained the hotel to us in detail. We felt welcomed. Although we almost passed out walking up to the hotel with our luggages, the view from our room with the balcony was totally worth it. Great breakfast, we enjoyed it very much. If I bring my family to visit Grindelwald again, I will consider booking this hotel again.

There was a strong, dusty smell in the room when we opened the door! But it can be solved by opening the window and balcony door. There is no AC in the room, but we did not need it because it was still very chilly when we visited.

The view from our room was insanely beautiful! I highly recommend getting a room with a balcony view. You will not believe the views. The staff were SO friendly and helpful. On our last morning, they packed us a breakfast so we could take it on the train with us. The breakfast everyday was great, and they cook eggs to order :)

The fan in the bathroom stays on a bit long (it's to help with the moisture) so if you got up to use bathroom at night, the fan noise was a little loud but not a deal breaker.

The breakfast is perfect. You can ask for a cup of nice latte and scrambled eggs, which are not displayed in the area. And if you can find a seat next to the window, the view is stunning. The breakfast time really gets you prepared for a good day.

The price is crazy to be honest. It is four times more than a similar room in other European countries. But it is already the cheapest option we had at the time of booking. Here we are in the most popular place in one of the most expensive countries. If you have budget, please reserve a room with good scenery. It will make you feel more worthed.
