The cabin was clean, super cute and very comfortable. The location was great for our visit to Wind Cave National Park (25mins), Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. Custer is a lovely little town. However, a number of businesses were already closed for the season. Some were on weekends only. The muffins, juice, fruit and yogurt for breakfast were yummy!
Very little. The small things were a small bathroom but very adequate, the heater made a clicking noise as the metal in it heated up and cooled down, one of the outlets didn't work but there were plenty more and the hinges on the bathroom door squeaked. As I said, very minor things.

The Chalet was built in 1937 and is so very quaint. We loved the town, and the Chalet was in walking distance to main street. The room and bathroom were a little small, it was a double bed, but the hospitality totally made up for it. Talked to the hostess at the desk who gave me great recommendations for the following day and even outlined it on a map. We would've have missed the best parts if we had not talked to her. Loved Custer - an old, western type town with shops, restaurants and saloons. Highly recommend Buglin' Bull for the buffalo sausage stuffed mushrooms - delicious.
The bed was not the most comfortable.

We got to step back in time at the Chalet Motel. Not really a motel, but separate "cabiins" built in 1937. What a fun place to stay in Custer!! We had a group of four, in two cabins, stayed for two nights and we loved it. Very friendly owners, and very comfortable. Great location, you can easily walk to downtown Custer.
Not a big deal at all for us, but if you need a lot of space in a motel room, or bathroom, then maybe the Chalet is not for you. I think they over double "rooms", so please check if you do need the space. Do not pass up a chance to stay at the Chalet Motel..

The owner, Michelle, was super friendly and wanted to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. The property is well-maintained, clean and comfortable. It was easy to walk from the hotel to the grocery store, restaurants and shops. The coffee was good, shower pressure strong, and the room temperature pleasant. We were glad to be able to have breakfast in our room as well. Thank you for the kind hospitality!
Nothing! It was an excellent stay

We booked 2 rooms at the Chalet Motel. On arrival, we found that each "chalet" contained 2 separate rooms, one behind the other, so 2 smaller than expected rooms. However, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was clean and functional, and the welcome was very friendly. The Chalet Motel was on the edge of the town, just a short walk from a good variety of eating options.
The smaller than expected rooms - probably my fault for not checking this out!

The location was great and there was an assortment of breakfast items available. It was close to town, although for us seniors a bit too much of a walk into town (especially as weather was blustery). We had reserved a chalet w/2 queen beds and it turned out to be a 2-bedroom, which worked out perfectly as my husband became sick once we arrived and could stay isolated. The parking was easy and we were impressed with everything. Our daughter and son-in-law own a similar cabin/resort set up in Oregon, so we're familiar with all that goes into making and keeping the Chalet Hotel cozy and welcoming!

The Custer Chalet Motel is an excellent stop for the night and was a very welcome change for my wife and I who had spent the previous few nights in traditional hotels. Each chalet feels very private and had everything we needed. The staff were all very friendly and it was easy to see they cared deeply about the facility and the guests, we felt extremely welcome during our visit. We also appreciated the location of the motel, you are mere blocks away from the main streets of Custer so dining options were abundant. We would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area!

The owner was so very friendly and helpful. These cabins were built in the 30s, remodeled inside, and cute as can be! Very well-kept. A continental breakfast was already in our room when we arrived. We had leftovers from lunch that we wanted to reheat. As no microwave in the room, owner said to use the microwave in the office anytime it was open.
Bathroom was very tiny, but clean and efficient.

The location was excellent! A short drive to three major attractions - Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Custer State Park. The chalet had a kitchen with coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. Also fully stocked with plates, cups, bowls, and silverware. Best of all is the owner! She helped me out with some mechanical problems I was having with my trailer. Even let me check out late so I could do some repairs before leaving. Above and beyond!
Nothing. Everything was excellent. This was a great place to stay and at an economical price.

Great location and room set-up for a group or people who can use their own space. We had two bedrooms, each with their own TV and the bathing facilities in the middle. Staff was nice, delivered bfast options to the room, and the room itself have good amenities. Within walking distance of a grocery store and downtown. I'd highly recommend.
The AC unit was in one room, so if it was hot out, then it might be hard to keep the entire unit cool. They use "real" keys, which as an extra thing to keep track of. Neither was horrible.
