The Room and Decor were as advertised. Large enough room, and wonderful bed.

Staff were hopeless. Opening hours 9 > 5. Sign on door said close at 5 pm. We arrived 4.15pm and office locked and no staff. No emergency phone number. No way of contacting anyone. Phoning hotel number, only phone on other side of locked door ring. No answering machine message. About 45 minutes later, received SMS of code for outside night safe and gained entry. For the next two days there was a permanent sign taped to front door - Back in 5 minutes -. No body ever appeared. Finally left on day 3, never having seen any staff. There was no Compendium in room, so no Internet Code and no information for emergencies or what to do in the town. Dust in drawers.

Loved the size and old world charm of the room complete with period furnishings. The four poster bed was Large and comfy. The TV was also a decent size. The lounge was SO Good to relax on, after days on the road with motels begrudgingly give you a single token chair. Only a short drive to the Fitzroy river and the centre of South Rocky. Bianca was very friendly and helpful on reception. It was very reasonably priced and is excellent value for money.

Being picky, the top of the fridge to make tea and coffee was cramped, tho there was a nice large old coffee table that we spread out on and ate at. There was no microwave, tho we didn't need it and we would have liked a second bedside lamp as we both read. If you are a light sleeper, the train trundling past up the 'street' may be a problem, but we thought it was a quaint throwback to the towns of old where this happened.

Absolutely a delightful place to stay ! Charming, historic and a well presented gem in the heart of Rockhampton. Wonderful communication from the staff made our stay pleasant, and with ease. It was helpful to be offered late check in as the weather delayed our arrival plans. The room with a corner spa ticked all the boxes after a long day on the road and the Pub across the road was a welcoming place to enjoy a good steak. If the class of old charm is your thing and you enjoy the history of old buildings the ‘Denison’ is a must for any travel plans. We will definitely be back when we have more time to explore all the hidden history Rockhampton has to offer. Ps the bed was so soft and comfortable !!

This hotel exceeded my expectations. It is a little touch of heaven in the heart of Rockhampton. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the spa bath was amazing. It was spotless, and I would have loved to have stayed longer. The staff were friendly and helpful on check-in and check out. I felt like I'd gone back in time to another era. It was nice to pull the curtains and rest in a dark room after working away from home for 3 months. Right across the road from the Great Western pub and walking distance to the gorgeous Fitzroy River and other venues.

I can't fault it.

If you like 'oldy-worldy' experiences, then this is the place for you! We loved the high ceilings, the comfy 4-poster bed, the wrap-around verandah, and the sights and sounds of passing freight and coal trains. The spa tub is a bonus we did not partake in on this occassion - but we have before! After a long drive, we enjoy the short walk to the river to find a steak dinner in one of the grand historical pubs. A great overnighter in Rocky!

Maintenance could be slicker - one of the tiles in the toilet had fallen off the wall.

Old railway administration building converted to boutique hotel. Good size room-very high ceilings -period furniture gave a luxury feel to the rooms-great spa bath to relax in after a day's touring. Good outdoor BBQ area for a quiet drink with friends. Great value continental breakfast. Easy access to Great Western hotel for meals and take-away cafe opposite.Good parking. Friendly and helpful staff.

Bit of an industrial feel to the area with the occasional freight train passing down the main road but really did not worry us. More of an interesting experience. With the heavy drapes in the room, might be an issue for asthmatics.

Omg it was just amazing; I loved the old period setting. Was so comfortable and relaxing. The spa was so clean and so relaxing being in your own room and not having to worry about anyone else. The aircon for such a large room was so cold and you diffidently didn't get hot. It was close to everything and the Great Western across the road was super convenient for meals and entertainment.

The only thing was the TV had issues with channels but told the staff and they were going to fix it up.

What a gem of a hotel. We felt like we had stepped back in time to the 1800s but with 21st century comfort! The four poster bed was a smash hit and the room decor was simply outstanding!!!! The walls on this hotel are about a foot thick so we weren't even bothered by the noise of the hotel across the road on a rowdy Saturday night. Well done guys this is a little beauty of a hotel.

The lawns were shaggy and not mowed and the paint on the outside was peeling which didn't make a great first impression. But don't let that fool you the rest of the place is beautiful. I am not a fan of cigarette smoke at all and was a little put off by the un-emptied butt trays outside every room. The hotel is right next door to a train line which my wife and I loved (who doesn't like the sound of a train?) but it was fairly loud and I can see that some people would make use of the ear plugs provided by the hotel to block them out.

We had an amazing room with a four poster bed and high ceilings. Immaculately clean and well appointed. The bed was huge and very comfortable with great pillows.The location is a bit out of the centre but walking distance to the river. The best surprise was that it’s across the road from The Great Western hotel where we were treated to a night of line dancing, meeting locals and great meals/drinks. The hotel even has a bull riding ring. Very entertaining and unexpected. The Denison was great value for money if a bit noisy with passing traffic. Would stay again.

Not our first stay.Have always loved the rooms decor and location. We are train buffs, so very much aware of the train station across the road. Far enough away from the main road to feel a little more private, yes, despite the trains,🤣but close to everything needed for a lovely stay.

Little changes, like the complimentary breakfast no longer offered. Gave you a chance to meet the other guests. The $100 .00 hold on your card when checking in, for the minibar etc.That was unexpected and we were caught a little off guard.
