It is a beautiful old Cape Dutch Hotel. The staff there make your stay worthwhile, they are so happy and friendly.

There are a few things that are a problem. The bathrooms have antique (old British) taps (both the basin and shower). It takes half an hour of running the tap to get warm water (such a waste of water) The shower taps have a mixing problem. You either get scalding heat or freezing cold water. At night the whole hotel is lit up, with a lot of lights - no movement detectors, no solar power? If this is for security -a lot of cameras have night vision? All night long there are machines running - very noisy

We are frequent guests to the hotel and continuously choose to come back than try any other hotel. The rooms are great and comfortable and a perfect size and the entire hotel gives a feel of being "home away from home".

Usually I love everything and breakfast is normally my fiancé and my favourite at the hotel but this time around I don't know what was happening with the breakfast set up. It used to be that you could select a full english breakfast and a few other options but now there are more alternative options and one or two things for an english breakfast for example there was fish or steak pie for breakfast. The beans were tasteless as they were a mix of beans. The sausages were tasting quite artificial, i'm not sure where they are being supplied from and when I looked at the bacon, it looked boiled so I stayed away from that. I understand that there is a standin chef at the moment but I really hope they find a permanent soon and revert back to the staples of breakfast with the few side options.

This is possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed in. It seems to be a well kept secret...in a brilliant location for getting anywhere in Cape Town, stunning view of Devils Peak, large and well appointed rooms. I stayed for three weeks and didn't want to leave. The warm and friendly staff were perhaps a highlight...they were really lovely and kind. A special thanks to the kitchen and dining room team led by Funiwe, they are all wonderful. And the reception team too.

The main complex with reception is in the old Cape Dutch style house, the rooms are beside it in a more modern complex, but only on two levels surrounding a park-like grass area with trees. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. They were equipped with a kitchenette and a lounge area. We were not so fond of the food quality of the restaurant close by. But there are other amazing opportunities nearby. We loved the Fat Cactus, which was 3 minutes away. (A more student type of restaurant) But cool with children if you like Mexican food.

I absolutely loved everything about this property. Surrounded by beautiful trees and offering stunning views, it’s the perfect place to take short morning walks and connect with nature—serene and refreshing. The rooms are spacious, clean, and beautifully designed, and all the facilities were top-notch: the restaurant, bar, and room service were all a 10/10. The breakfast buffet was amazing as well. Overall, the place is beautifully managed, with an artistic touch that makes it truly special. I will definitely be visiting again!

I honestly don’t know why this hotel is only 3 star, it should be 4 star! We stayed for 1 night in a beautiful and spacious king room. We have stayed in 4 star hotels in Europe which have been worse than this hotel. The breakfast was a full buffet with a chef to cook your hot selections. The staff were fantastic, friendly and happy to help with anything. We honestly thoroughly loved our stay!

Nothing, room was spotless, checkin was easy, no negatives at all!

Breakfast was exceptional with a variety of options, I looked forward to it every day. I was given a suite of 2 bedrooms complete with a living room and a kitchenette which I greatly appreciated. The staff were friendly and really helpful, even allowed us to check in early. Gorgeous view of table mountain and the environment was really peaceful and serene.

Location was a little far from town. Bedroom that had a bathtub in the bathroom was not cleaned.

Staff were excellent, service really good and breakfast excellent. I have been a visitor to this establishment, as have numerous colleagues with UCT connections, on a regular basis for about 20 years and remember the days when it was known as the Courtyard.

We had dinner day one of our stay, the Protea Hotel at the Wild Fig and it was excellent. I have had meals here often and the food is generally excellent quality and good value. Evening 2 when we tried to book (about 5.00pm) for dinner at the Wild Fig ( 7.00pm) we were told that the restaurant was block booked. 1. We should have been informed of this earlier in the day (by the hotel) so we could have made alternative arrangements. 2. Consequently, we ordered room service from the Wild Fig and to put it mildly what was delivered was sub-standard. Most was thrown into the waste. This reflects badly, not just on the Wild Fig, but on the Protea Hotel by Mowbray.

The rooms are nice. The infrastructure has been maintained for almost two centuries. The waiters at breakfast were always very nice.

Room services take an eternity. Food order was delayed by 2 hours until we cancelled. The description on booking.com does not match the actual room with reference to the area, we were given a much smaller room with no bathtubs although our booking specified bathtubs.

I have stayed there before & it is a lovely place however this time was so much more pleasant. The garden is beautiful but what really stood out was the staff, friendly & helpful, from the reception to the ladies in the laundry The breakfast is great & caters for all & the quality of the food is great & once again the from the staff were excellent.

My shower was a little cramped but there was little not to like.
