Excellent location. Very attentive staff. If you need anything throughout your stay you can simply text the needs and the staff responds very promptly. Also, 1852 restaurant was a very pleasant dining experience. Great food and knowledgeable staff.

While we didn’t have an issue with the stairs, we were in a 4th floor room. The only way to get there is to take the elevator to the 3rd floor and stairs up the remaining flight. This would have been good to know before the booking. Also, the ceilings in our room were slanted and you couldn’t sit up fully in bed without hitting your head. As for the bathtub, it was slick as glass and I was truly surprised there wasn’t a bath mat to reduce slips in the tub. I would book a room again at this hotel, but I would request a room where I would not be hitting my head every time I sat up in bed.

It's an old building with a lot of quarks, but the property/room was very clean. Excellent location, close to town and the ferry. Enjoyed the front porch and the fire pit at night. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Ice House restaurant was very good.

Overall we were happy with our stay, but these are a few things that could be improved upon. Room was very small - like New York hotel room small! The shower and toilet were in a separate room (sink was in the main room), but the door was constantly in the way and it was hard to get in and out of the shower. Add a few more hooks or hangers on the wall to put jackets or other items on. There isn't much counter space, so extra places to hang items would be appreciated. Pillows were very hard, not comfortable at all.

We loved the Island house hotel. It had the old charm but with an updated look! The location was perfect, not right in the heart of the city but very close & walkable. From the moment we got there we felt very welcomed by the front desk staff & loved the fact that they took care of our luggage from the ferry to our room! The room was small but quaint & clean & I loved the little bonus room that was in the turret of the building & overlooked the harbor & downtown, I felt like a queen in a castle😂! We also very much enjoyed sitting on the large front porch watching the boats come in & out. We would definitely stay here again & would highly recommend!

This wasn’t a major deal but the wall unit a/c was a little noisy but it wasn’t a deal breaker, we still very much enjoyed our stay!

We had a Wonderful stay here. The hospitality and customer service are amazing! Great friendly, helpful staff everywhere on site. We chatted and made friends with many guests in the lobby and relaxing on the front grounds. Our room was updated nicely, and luggage service from dock to hotel and back to ferry upon departure was timely. We dined for dinner and breakfast at the onsite 1825 restaurant and the food and service 10 out of 10. We will stay again! Thank you for a memorable 40th anniversary trip to the island 💙

Location, restoration, staff, dining room and bar, convenience

My room! AC was disturbingly loud, so we needed to turn it off to get some peace. Then the temp was uncomfortably warm. Even when AC was off, vents and fans on roof immediately outside our room were very loud and disruptive. Also, no ironing board and iron, no safe for valuables, and bathroom was almost too small to fit into. Finally, needed to request maid service. Lots to fix here, especially considering the very expensive room charge.

As first-time visitors to the island, we enjoyed the carriage tour and carriage museum. We had a nice dinner at the 1852 Grill at Island House and really enjoyed sitting on the terrace in rocking chairs locking over the bay. (Suggestion: Open terrace earlier and close it later. Maybe post signs to observe "quiet hours" to minimize disruption to guests staying in adjoining rooms.)

Room (4th floor) had low-angled ceiling was a little inconvenient (bumped head several times getting in and out of bed)

Island House Hotel was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Every interaction with staff was positive, and everyone was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable, and cheery. We loved the veranda porch in front that looks out over the lake. Plenty of chairs were available to use while we relaxed and took in the views. The pool and hot tub area were clean and well kept. Upstairs rooms can be accessed using stairs or the elevator. Hallways have stairs where the original building transitions to an addition. If stairs are a problem for you, make sure you request a room easily accessed. We would highly recommend staying at Island House Hotel if you are visiting Mackinac Island.

Conveniently situated on the island and impeccably maintained, the Island House is just perfect if you can afford the price. The two restaurants are very convenient. The Ice House near the pool is very casual and doesn’t require reservations.

Because of the cost, we stayed on the fourth floor ( room 418) in a dormer. This room, after all the various taxes were added, was almost $600/night! The combined area would probably equal three queen beds. It was, however, cute ( like a kids playhouse) and clean. I peaked in the dormer next to ours as it was being cleaned; it was almost twice the size of ours. So, maybe some are better than others. Also, the shower nozzle only drizzled out water and the air conditioner sounded like a jet engine.

The location was great for us and the lobby had a real fireplace which, after we asked, someone came and built a fire in. On a cold, rainy day, it was perfect! We also really enjoyed the porch. Excellent views too! We ate at The Ice House (a BBQ restaurant on the property), and the food was delicious! Our room was decorated nicely and the water in shower was hot. Overall, I would consider staying there again next year. We brought our own bikes and could park them right out front, which was convenient.

I had to ask for fresh towels. I thought that leaving them on the floor would indicate that, but I'm not sure the room was even entered. Also, my husband (the coffee drinker), thought the coffee station was poorly stocked and inadequate. A real mug with coffee/tea all day would have put this hotel over the top for him. They also have a rewards club for points at participating places, which is a nice idea. However, they wouldn't give me points for my stay because I used booking.com

Our room had a wonderful view that aligns with the pictures advertised online. The hotel lobby is very classy and the staff were super friendly. The location was close enough to the shops and restaurants that it is only a 5 minute leisurely walk. The room was very bright and clean! It has a pool and hot tub which we used to wind down in the evening. They also took our luggage to and from the Ferry so we did not have to lug it around ourselves.

The bathroom in the room is very small but we did not have any other dislikes, which is a rare occurrence.
