Convenient location for a stop over on the way to the West Country or to visit Romsey and the New Forest. We have stayed here before a few times and the service and food has been better. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable.

Very poor waiting service in the restaurant in the evening and the food was terrible. Overcooked and tasteless. Same for English cooked breakfast. As our room was right next to the car park it was quite noisy at night. Overpriced for what it is. I will not be returning.

Room was comfortable, well-appointed, clean and inviting. Outdoor seating area was comfortable and welcome in the hot weather. We had booked a table for dinner with friends who live near Romsey and the food was excellent but marred by poor drinks service. Breakfast was good but again speed of service could have been better. When it happened it was excellent.

The ensuite showroom was fine but the heated towel rail was too hot to touch and was on all the time, which didn't help the heat in the bedroom in the hot weather. I did enquire whether it could be turned off but had no joy. Given the hot weather, this needs to be looked at and isn't particularly green either.

Dinner was tasty and well cooked. We had breakfast off the menu and this was lovely. We went to breakfast at 0930 (finishes at 1000) and there were some bits of the continental breakfast left to choose from on the servery, but not much, otherwise we probably would have chosen fruit and pastries from that instead. The room was very well equipped, and the bed really comfortable. We were given a great welcome pack for our puppy and there were some human goodies in the room for us too! Staff were friendly and efficient.

Our room was very hot and initially we thought there was an annoying amount of noise from a generator somewhere nearby. We eventually realised that the noise was actually from the bathroom fan which took about 20minutes to switch off once we had turned off the bathroom light. The radiator wasn't on in the room so we think a combination of a very well insulated room and a very hot towel rail in the bathroom made the room the temperature it was. Both of these issues can easily be dealt with.

Great location within short walking distance of Romsey, slightly off putting on a arrival reception area very cluttered with boxes and view into storage areas not great 1st impression but by the end of our stay it was slightly tidier, but room are lovely very clean and all the things you need for your stay. Lovely breakfast with a choice of various hot option, but very limited continental style breakfast. Bar/restaurant food again small menu but various styles of food. Two negatives from evening meal we where given two different menu only to find my choice where on the wrong menu ,also chef is heavy handed with salt during the cooking process maybe some more frequent tasting as he cooks would help Very nice toiletries in the bathroom nice fluffy towels and complimentary slippers Nice to have water and fresh milk in the fridge Be aware that the bathroom have very noises extractors fan even after you have left the bathroom and it is turned off approx 5mins which is annoying at night

Room very warm even after turning heating to lowest setting, seams a waste of heating to open windows in January.maybe a review of tea and coffee in the rooms you have a nespreso machine (2 pod 3 flavour)tea bags 4 tea bags)and coffee bags (1bag of 3type) so if you both want the same coffee bag or more than one you can’t. Again it’s a very nice gesture to offer a complimentary bottle of beer in the room but two people one bottle maybe but one for each guest or with draw the gesture

Primarily it was a perfect location to stay walking the test way. However, everything else was perfect too. Exceptional staff, very friendly & nothing too much trouble. Even the chef sought us out after dinner to ask if we enjoyed the meal. Scallops & Lamb - fantastic! The room was clean & very comfortable. Classy extras like an array of tea pigs , fresh local milk & boutique shortbread. A lovely powerful shower.

Near a busy road with associated noise. Thankfully the bedrooms are located at the back so noise negligible.

Nice pub. Pub food on a Sunday evening. Nothing fancy but nice. What was a surprise was the quality of the service and rooms. The rooms were absolutely top quality. We were nicely upgraded because they were quiet but I'm sure all the rooms were equally beautiful if a little smaller. Lots of complimentary things in the room. A small bottle of fresh milk in the fridge. Very nice and I did ask for some extra tea bags which were absolutely not a problem. The road was very busy but the rooms were a lovely single story extension on the back looking across the edge of the river. The double glazing was excellent but as I like an open window if possible I was woken by noisy bird song. Best overnight pub small hotel overnight stay iv had for a very long time and we are quite frequent travellers and for £88 double occupancy including a cooked breakfast. Quiet Sunday occupancy rate obviously but even so. Great value.

There wasn't a drinking glass in the room. I don't know if this was an oversight or usual but I'm sure if I had asked I would have been immediately given one but I used my tea cup for water. Absolutely nothing else.

Great selection of fresh food & hot dishes cooked to order. Great to have serving start at 7am too.

Would have appreciated more milk in the room each day. The turning in to the hotel was dicey - we tried both going to the filter lane and u-turning and crossing the road ahead of the junction (arriving from Romsey direction) but the first was dangerous (not an obvious manoeuvre to other traffic using the junction) and the second seemed illegal as had to cross a hatched section.

Location was perfect and the breakfast was fantastic. Very nice welcome and staff organised a key as we were going to be later returning for our stay that evening. Great access to a fresh walk the next morning down the river and around the town.

Fan for the bathroom kept going for a very long time. Kettle didn’t work. Cleaning staff were stationed outside our room and quite noisy in the morning. Granted we didn’t put the do not disturb sign on but still…

Loved the location, loved the outside sitting area (the sun was shining). The menu and food were very good and reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful with the exception of my comment below. We are already planning our next visit.

The table service on Saturday night was very slow - half an hour wait for our meal and then this was not cleared away and we left without a dessert, We heard later that some staff had not turned up, but there was no apology.

Our regular spot, we know everything here and staff are fantastic as always!

We’re a bit squeezed this time with room smaller than we usually book due to availability. Also had strange experience at breakfasts with really long serving time so opted for no breakfast on day of check out not to delay ourselves And, will continue repeating: try to do something with road crossing/speed limits! In the interests of hotel and everyone to keep all safe.
