Beautiful location, lovely accessible room that really did feel luxurious with pretty little doors to a private patio. 30sec walk to the beautiful river . Easy parking, fabulous interior decor for the whole pub and rooms. Breakfast and staff were lovely too. We will definitely be back to stay have family local.

We arrived when it was very busy and had to wait 20 mins to be shown to our room even though we checked in online. . After a 4 hour drive this was a bit long to wait but enjoyed a drink in the bar whilst waiting. However this has not deterred us from revisiting from North Wales , as it was just such a lovely place to stay.

Good location for what we needed. Comfortable spacious rooms. Breakfast was good and nice to be served instead of having buffet style which so many places offer nowadays. Overall meals in the pub were also nice. Friendly staff. Would return if in the area.

Everything was good but could have a few improvements to make it even better. No bin in the bathroom and the fan hardly worked so very damp after taking a shower. We were in an upstairs room and the one below smoked outside so we had smoke in the room if we had our windows opened. I was a little disappointed that when we left, and having spent 4 nights and also eaten every night in the restaurant we didn't get more of a 'hope you enjoyed your stay' they couldn't really wait for us to leave, so customer service could have been better.

The location of the property is beautiful. The restaurant is cosy with the open fire and lots of private areas. The people were lovely. The drinks and food selection was great and the bed was big and comfy

There is an awful sewage smell as soon as we turned up. It was disgusting. We couldn’t open the doors in our room because of the smell. I asked a lady who worked there about this and she said “yeah it is sewage, they have tried doing something about it but it keeps coming back” We also booked a deluxe double but were given the accessible room, it was fine however the wet room was so slippery after a shower and we kept walking water into the room. The shower was also not great. The cost to have a dog stay also wasn’t included in the price on booking.com so had to pay additional at the property without being made aware.

Pub and rooms were lovely- Great decor, spacious and food was top! As a family of four I was really happy with the Beaumont ‘family room’ which was able to combine two rooms into one, meaning the kids weren’t on top of us. Not the cheapest stay but all in all very reasonably priced when considering how good the rooms and food was. Special mention to the beds- Large and very comfortable! A great place to stay and recharge if like us you had visited Paultons park, which is only a ten minute drive away.

Cleanliness of the bathrooms could have been better. One toilet hadn’t been cleaned after previous use and one shower had hairs in it. Whilst one of the toilet brush holders water had been knocked/leaked over the floor.

Beautiful location Altrincham you cent actually see the Test from the proprety. Helpfyl staff.

I was not happy to know that dogs can stay in the Rooms. Charging per item for breakfast was rather stingy. Orange juice was extra as was toast. Most hotels give you those included. There was only one bath towel for the two of us. Overall. They seem to be penny pinching. The outside garden area for the room was just part of the car park. 🥲

Generous portions at breakfast. Bed was very comfortable. Room was tasteful. The staff was especially nice and helpful. The bar/lounge area was very welcoming. Parking was close and very convenient.

We found the food quality spotty. Flavours were generally good but cooking was spotty. For instance: soft boiled eggs were hard. Scrambled eggs were undercooked. Room was dark especially the bathroom. There were no tissues so we used toilet paper.

The venue, room furniture and decoration, excellent and large bed. Delicious food, served by friendly, attentive staff.

On Sunday morning we left the ‘please make up my room’ sign on Cumberland door handle and when we returned the room had not been serviced. The duty manager was excellent when notified and brought us fresh supplies and towels but arriving back to an unserviced room despite requesting it to be serviced during the day was very disappointing for a hotel which was excellent in every other aspect.

The Duke on the Test is everything I hope for in an inn but rarely get - fantastic ambience, room, decor, staff and food - what a treat! It was easy to find and park, plenty of parking spaces. We received a warm welcome from staff who offered to help us with our bags and showed us up to our room. Staff were amazing throughout - even when they were rushed off their feet in the restaurant we still got service with a smile - evidence of their well deserved popularity as a restaurant. The room was just stunning - we loved the decor - very warm and cozy and had everything we needed, loved the pictures. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was gorgeous and the towels smelt divine. Bottled water each side of the bed was a lovely touch. It was nice to see Dorset teabags provided. We had 2 nights at the Duke and slept really well. We also ate dinner here twice - we were going to only eat on the first night but the food was so good we had to come back on the second night as well - everything had so much flavour and there was a wide choice of menu options, we loved everything we ordered. We hear they do a tasting menu occasionally - that would certainly be worth trying. On their website they say they buy local which is really good to hear - there was local trout on the menu which was delicious. We had breakfast once (almost missed it as we got the timings wrong by 10 minutes but the chef kindly accommodated us). Service was a little slow as others had mentioned but we were in no hurry and were grateful that they fitted us in, and it was absolutely delicious - worth the wait - don't have breakfast if you're in a hurry though! And, as always, it tasted amazing, my husband said even the baked beans tasted different to usual. We were sad to leave and we just have to come back!

A more powerful shower is the only thing I could have improved on, and speedier breakfast service, otherwise, perfect!

The Duke is a lovely place to stay. The bed is comfy, it was warm, the staff helpful and welcoming. The decoration is in keeping with the name The Duke on the Test. The food is delicious. This is my third visit, my only complaint is because it is popular I can’t always get a room. I regularly visit the area for business and it is my first choice for accommodation.

Overall appearance was excellent , allocated parking close to rooms for guests was a good start. Warm welcome from all staff. The room was immaculate and recently furnished. Restaurant and Bar had a pleasant vibe. Service, menu and food were excellent with generous protons that did not break the bank.

Difficult , but my wife would have liked a full length mirror in our room, some do have this. The soap dispenser in the bathroom was in a poor location, resulting in a very wet floor/door. Nit picking now. Liked everything.
