The Dog & Crook offers 5 modern bedrooms in a detached two story building adjacent to the pub. The bedrooms are of a good standard even running to a ceiling fan that was much appreciated in the recent hot spell. The pub restaurant offers a selection of pub meals as well as a reasonable choice of Indian cuisine. Service was always obliging and personable. Breakfast was available and given a choice of items you would normally find on a full English together with tea, coffee, toast and juice. Both the room rate and food and drink prices were very competitive for the area.

Attending Son's engagement party @ Romsey Rugby Club so the location was the reason for choosing this accommodation as literally down the road. Were early to check in so had lunch at the pub. Amazing Indian food and very careful that my Wife's food had no trace of any spice or chillies as she cant eat spicy food. Only four rooms but ours a good size.

Only thing would be that the shower needs some attention (replacing) as thermostat broken so had to force the handle to get cooler and shower head in need of disinfection and didn't stay in place!

Situated within easy reach of Southampton and the New Forest Attractions, this venue represents excellent value for money in my opinion. I have rated it as an 8/10 for the following reasons. The bedrooms are in a recently built annexe, and my room was on the first floor. Access is by outside metal staircases, which were a little challenging for me due to mobility issues. Fortunately it was dry and the stairs were not slippery on this occasion. There are two ground floor rooms, so when I stay there again I shall request one of them. The room I used was sizeable and clean. The bed linen was spotless, and it was a very comfortable bed. However, it is a single and the duvet was a little narrow, leaving draught entrances when in bed. The full length mirror in the room was on the floor leaning against the wall at an angle and needs to be hung properly. The tea making shelf was loose on the wall and could not be used safely. There is no wardrobe, just a rail with hangers. The curtains were flimsy and let in all of the early morning light, which compounded the problem of the bright green LED light in the smoke detector on the ceiling above my bed which irritated me all night. These are all very easily remedied issues and should not detract from an otherwise comfortable room. The shower was excellent. Plenty of hot water at a good pressure. The pub has it's own restaurant, and I went for the fish and chips. The service was very slow, however the waiter was very polite and attended to all my needs, albeit slowly. My meal took an hour to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Superbly cooked, a sizeable and really fresh piece of fish, and superb chips. I would say as good as any I have had, including the excellent Colmans in South Shields or any Harry Ramsdens. I ordered breakfast, an extra £10 which I thought was reasonable. It was presented well and very tasty, in particular the sausage.

The Dog & Crook has kept its identity as a local pub offering a good choice of ales and lagers, plus a dartboard. The menus offer a range of traditional pub grub in addition to serving first class Indian dishes all freshly cooked on set days. The food offerings are all very good value for money. I found all the staff very helpful and friendly. My wife and I stayed for two nights and found our ground floor accommodation very comfortable and quiet. We would definitely stay again next time we are in the area.

The only minor negative was the accommodation could have done with a little more clothing hanging space.

Reallly friendly staff; very good prices for food; lovely atmosphere in the bar; easy parking; rooms really comfortable and clean (we had an upstairs and a double room downstairs, REALLY handy location - especially for Hilliers Arboretum.

Just small niggles - we really enjoyed our stay. These things would have just made it even better :-)…The upstairs room could do with black out curtains or an extra blind to reduce light coming in. Having double duvets on the single beds for adults would have been a bit of added comfort - plus a few more milks in the room (to make more than 1 drink each easier).

Staff were extremely friendly upon arrival and, although we checked in late in the evening, there was even the offer from the kitchen to opn it back up so that they could feed us. The room had a ceiling fan which was needed as it was a very warm weekend.

One of the bedside lamps was a little tired and missing a bulb. It was a little difficult to fill the kettle as it didn't fit under the tap so we improvised by filling a glass with water instead - perhaps a small jug would be useful.

We found this pub with accommodation in a separate block the ideal place to stay for a visit to The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton and the next day to Mottisfont Abbey (National Trust). The room was in a separate building and was modern, clean and sparsely furnished. The beds were very comfortable and there was everything that we needed (also TV which we never watch). Super breakfast with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toast and choice of cooked items.

The only small niggle was that the green fire alarm/extinguisher (?) light on the ceiling in front of the door was so bright that when you turned off the bedroom lights at night, it still lit up the room. This meant it was a little difficult to get to sleep.

It was a really nice friendly pub and we felt safe and well looked after at all times. The hotel is situated on a quiet road. The rooms were set apart from the main hotel and it was nice and quiet with views from our room over the surrounding countryside. Our room was nicely presented and very clean.

I think the only thing missing were nice comfortable armchairs. This always makes a room a lot less comfortable. In fact, wherever possible, I don't book rooms without armchairs! I can't even understand why it is considered acceptable. Who chooses a house without a comfortable chair to sit in?

I liked that the rooms were set apart from the pub. I didn’t notice any noise in the late evening. The staff were friendly and aimed to please. The bed was extremely comfortable. We could park beside the property.

The first morning we were offered a cooked breakfast, which was fine, but no one mentioned that I could have fruit, yoghurt, cereal, or eggs other than fried eggs. The second morning,I asked if there were alternatives and enjoyed a lovely breakfast of fruit, cereal, yoghurt and poached eggs. I think a printed menu would have been helpful.

Great location, walking distance to Harold Hillier Gardens and local co-op and takeaways, lovely view from room patio doors. Staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking. Bed comfortable, lots of room around the bed for cases. Breakfast 10 pound each extra, very good full English with hot drinks and juice, order as much as you want. Overall accommodation is really good value for money.

No real negatives. Take your own plugs for USB chargers. Limited choice for dinner at the pub, our massala curry was very hot for a massala, not creamy, and portion was small, wasn't as good value or as tasty as breakfast but maybe that's just our taste. We ate from chip shop in town 2nd night, can recommend chicken and haloumi wrap was lovely!
