Our stay at Hotel El Greco in Igoumenitsa was a truly good experience. The hotel, likely built in the 1980s, carries a charming, familiar atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. What truly sets it apart is the extraordinary kindness of the staff, a reflection of the generous and resilient spirit of the Greek people. Despite the economic challenges imposed by both national and European policies, which have made entrepreneurship and local business increasingly difficult, the team at El Greco continues to move forward with admirable determination. The hotel is gradually renovating its rooms, and we were lucky to receive a complimentary upgrade to one of the newly refurbished ones modern, comfortable, and tastefully done. Located right at the port of Igoumenitsa, the hotel is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas, whether you're heading to the islands or discovering the beauty of Epirus. You can eat up to late in the night even if the surrounding area has many businesses that have been closed for quite some time. Running a business in Greece is not easy. With a 23% VAT and the introduction of a new eco-tax, it's becoming increasingly difficult—some might even say absurd. This is especially surprising given that the area is naturally very busy, thanks to the nearby port and its proximity to the borders with Albania and North Macedonia. I believe the Greek people may soon grow frustrated with these burdens.

This unpretentious hotel perfectly met our needs for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. The location is excellent—right on the main boulevard and close to cafes and restaurants. The view of the Ionian Sea is stunning, especially at sunset. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels and sheets provided. The bathroom is spacious and well-appointed. A major plus is the on-site parking, as finding a spot for your car in this part of the city can be quite challenging. The staff is polite and attentive.

A wider variety of fruits at breakfast would be a great addition.

We stayed at the front renovated double room overlooking the port which was spacious, clean, comfortable and very well done. The view from the bed itself is stunning and so is the balcony view. Excellent location, 5 mins away from the port and with loads of cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. Owner is a lovely, kind person and overall we enjoyed the stay. Noting however that the hit itself might feel dated and worn, again sth that the owner is trying to change gradually.

That's actually a decent hotel. The renovations are almost over and it may be turning to a very good one :) Most bad reviews seem to be due to the state before and during renovations, in any case the staff is very kind and helpful. It's not a luxury resort, but the location is good too!

The only point I found is that the mattresses are a bit hard and could be more comfortable Oh, and a quick win: having vegan milk at the breakfast would be great :)

We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay at El Greco. We reserved two junior suites which have been recently renovated and they were perfect for us. The photos of these renovated rooms are correct and they have done an excellent job with all new and modern features and furniture. We had requested side by side rooms and they gave us two side by side on the fourth floor, overlooking the sea and main promenade. The hotel location is perfect for walking and eating at the many restaurants and bars along the main road. The hotel is run by a local family and the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. There was onsite free parking which was great. The overall hotel needs updating but it was very clean walking into the lobby and in the breakfast hall, and you spend all your time in your room when you are at the hotel anyways.

The breakfast was basic but if you are not looking for anything special, it will serve the purpose of a deluxe continental breakfast. I enjoyed waking up every morning to different coffee options and something small to eat.

Not keen on the 10€ charge for a cat, why? I'd expect the room to be thoroughly cleaned anyway. I bagged up all the rubbish and swept the floor before I left. However breakfast was included which I hadn't realised so it's fair in the end.

The staff was ever friendly and helpful!

The pictures I saw online and the room I was given were no where near the same! When I expressed this the girl at reception took me to the other side of the hotel and showed me different rooms (the ones online) and those rooms were great had to pay a little more but.

The staff and owners are so friendly, always wanting to make sure your staff is going well. The location is perfect being on the main front promenade.

The breakfast is a basic continental but does the trick.
