We were given a free upgrade to the Bridle suite which was beautiful. Staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant

If I had to make a complaint it was that the beans on the breakfast was cold but it wasn’t a big issue

Food was excellent. It starts with great produce then gret kitchen skills. Both were excellent. I had a Turkish style mixed grill plate done on a Robata grill so BBQ style. Seriously good. The staff made it really. We had some minor issues but they couldn't have been more helpful. Very attentive without being annoying as some can be. I don't want to leave a bad review as our only issue was just certain aspects of the room. Everything else was excellent. Would we stay again? Absolutely no doubt at all.

The room let things down badly so a real shame. Grubby stained carpet a bit gross but then again who would pick beige in the first place. A rain shower head in the shower fantastic. Except....the only bits water came out of was the outer ring. I think if you stood directly under it, you would stay dry. Limescale maintenance needed. Bathroom underfloor heating didn't work and staff couldn't crack it either. You needed a BA with honours to work the control out. Never did. Seriously noisy sliding door that wakes anyone else up in the room at night. Glass door on it and no bathroom blackout. So 5am when the sun came up the bathroom was like the pitch at Wembley and it then shone through the bathroom door. The bedroom was daylight.

I liked the room (18 "Canter") very much. The bed was very comfortable and I loved the design of the room with its plantation shutters and its interior decor. The shower area was great and cleverly designed too with the sliding door and the temperature of the hot water was just right requiring no adjustment. Having a wide screen tv was very relaxing. And the sloe gin was delicious. Max, the young man on duty (double duty as it turned out) was immensely helpful. His quiet and sensitive manner was impressive: he was involved with the Wake for my father's funeral with minimal staff to help and when an unexpectedly large number of attendees arrived, he managed to cater for them with flexibility and without fluster. My family is very grateful to him and the supporting staff.

There was a slightly grimy rim round the plughole in the basin. The soundproofing could have been better: I heard telephone conversations, loos flushing and quite a lot of tramping around from the upstairs bedroom; perhaps carpeting would help with the acoustics. And it would have been useful to have an information about breakfast times. A few capsules of cream and milk would have been good too.

I've stayed at the Hare & Hounds a few times in the past 3 months and it is always a great stay. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and well equipped although the raindrop shower in the room I had this week needs some maintenance. I did try to speak to someone before I left in the morning but staff were too busy with breakfast. Dinner met the very high quality standards that I've experienced before and the selection of wines and beers is fantastic. They have changed the way breakfast is served from my last stay in early Feb and although it was still excellent, it wasn't quite as good as before! Staff are always super friendly and helpful so all in all, another great stay.

We appreciated the welcoming staff, very attractive rooms and convenient location for exploring the area (such as Highclere Castle). Breakfast was very good, and having on-site parking was a plus. Even though it's on a main-ish road about a mile from the historic center, we weren't bothered by any traffic noise. And it was a very easy drive to get to town, the canal, etc. We wish our stay had been longer! Note: we didn't realize when booking our room that it was in a separate building with exterior doors. (Motel-like.) It was fine. There are rooms in the main building, too, if that is important to you for future reference. We'll be back!

We enjoyed the breakfast choices; the food was lovely. Our room was beautifully decorated and furnished and very comfortable. The sloe gin was a nice and unexpected welcome. We ate in the restaurant on our first night. The food and service were outstanding.

There was little to complain about. Minor points: we could hear some noise from the neighbouring room, breakfast service was not quite as good on our second morning: coffee not hot enough, some missing items in the buffet. We didn’t like our restaurant bill having a 12.5% service charge added. The service was excellent but the choice of how much to add should be at the client‘s discretion. On querying the amount we were told it could be removed but that would have left us feeling mean!

Nicely decorated The linen (both towels and sheets) were the best! Probably one of the best duvets at a hotel. I liked that the barn rooms didn’t have carpet, the room feels cleaner line that. Coffee machine and water in the room which was great. It was clean juts a little bit of dust but nothing major. Breakfast was included and it was very nice, however it’s not a buffet, you order and the portions aren’t that big.

After the shower a bad smell was coming out of the drains. I told them and they checked it immediately but tbh it didn’t go away even though they cleaned it. Room was a bit small but I didn’t mind as I was only one person. I had a discount but I think for full price is a bit overpriced even though it’s much better than other accommodations in the area.

This place is a gem. A beautiful old coaching in on the a4 just outside of Newbury, the inn has been beautifully renovated and is now a really sumptuous, comfortable place to stay. The room was really spacious and the bed super comfortable. We really enjoyed the complimentary sloe gin too! The restaurant was also excellent, we had dinner there both nights, and breakfast was also great too. We stayed there because my wife had a business meeting, but this turned into a really lovely little excursion. Well recommended.

The ONLY thing I would say is that the location is a little out of Newbury. It is within walking distance but I'd say it's around a 25 minute walk each way. Taxis are however available from Newbury, and there are bus stops nearby too. There isn't a great deal in Speen, although the Kennet and Avon canal and river Kennet are both within a short walk and worth a stroll in a sunny day.

The room was a small but good size; we loved the little touches like Sloe gin and the Christmas tree. Staff were extremely accommodating and friendly - I'm currently going through chemotherapy treatment, I'd requested for breakfast to not have people sit next to us to protect me from illness, and they made sure this happened. I felt really comfortable being there. The breakfast was fantastic, the full english was included in the stay which we didn't expect and were very happy with. The general spread of pastries, fruit, juices, continental meat, and cheese were great, too.

Wonderful room. Very stylish. Lots of extras. Not run of the mill. Highly recommended.

We had dinner at the restaurant in the pub. Food was lovely. We hate it when the tip is automatically added to the bill (+12,5%). Unfortunately, this was the case there. We have had dinner in many restaurants in pubs, but so far we have only come across this nuisance in fancy restaurants. We tip anyway if we are satisfied with the service, but tipping should be our decision, especially in restaurants in pubs.
