The location is perfect - right in the middle of the lovely historic town of Newbury. The pub is clean and friendly with a great atmosphere. The room was comfortable and had everything a person could require overnight. The bed was particularly comfy!

The shower was aimed at the wall and one had to negotiated the soap dish and the taps to get under the flow of water. And beware, the continental breakfast is unstaffed, not necessarily a bad thing, but there was a slight delay while I tried to make a cup of coffee in the pod machine. Not rocket science! However, I don't think it had ever been emptied and when I opened the used pod drawer it released a splash of brown water and pods out over the cupboard, me, and the floor. I mopped up as best I could with the paper napkins - all cleaning equipment was locked up - and the only available bin was stuffed full. I guess the lesson is for every aspect of unstaffed breakfasts to be checked every day at set-up and I'm sure they will now!

Really nice pub and very friendly and helpful staff. Bed was comfortable and the location really convenient. Very much enjoyed staying here. Despite it being a popular pub, the rooms are quiet and we had no issues sleeping even with the window open. Self serve continental breakfast was perfect as didn't want to be tempted by a cooked offering!

Old building so uneven floors and creaky floorboards as expected. Shower in bathroom- "rainfall" showerhead that covered pretty much all the shower footprint, difficult to not be under the water to larger up hair or leave conditioner in for a bit! Lighting in bathroom also a bit dim. Not unusable just not ideal for doing your makeup! Also no wardrobe or drawers for anyone who likes to unpack suitcases whilst staying.

The team at Dolphin are second to no other pub/acommodation, they are simply fabulous. I stayed at the Dolphin for a week, as I was travelling from Hong Kong, and was sad to leave them all at the end of the week. The pub atmosphere was, as one would hope, was like a comforting home. There was great chat at the bar and the food was off the chart good, and superb value for money. I can not recommend the Dolphin highly enough.

Staff were an absolute delight, efficient, friendly and really helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Pizzas for dinner were outstanding (the best we had ever eaten!) as was the bar food we had for lunch. Continental breakfast served in the fishbowl was of good quality and plentiful. Although our room was compact it was clean and perfectly functional.

The only tiny issue was the size of the TV screen in the bar as it was just a bit too small to have a really good view of the Six Nations Rugby matches.

The Dolphin is a Pub with rooms. Our room was spacious comfortable bed. Shower and Toilet OK. TV good Food in Hotel was good, General Bar cuisine. Bar area was comfortable outside and inside. Breakfast was Continental. Nice meats and bread. Cereals also. A nice Breakfast offering. Location was excellent a short walk to the Town. for us a long walk to Newbury Races(40minutes) Would I stay again, "most definitely" Good Carparking

The location so close to the station and town centre was good. The room was old but not tired. Very clean. Great bath with instant hot water, which was great after a long day walking. The staff downstairs were very chilled out and accommodating. The hotel didn't have staff in the morning, so breakfast was self-serve. Which was fine - but I didn't know who to ring / how to get information in the mornings so if you have queries make sure to ask the bar staff the night before who are very friendly. They had a very popular quiz night on Weds so if you're staying then make sure you make alternative dinner arrangements or book a table early.

We were there for racing at Newbury so the location was very good. I came by train and The Dolphin is about 400 yards from Newbury main station. Very attractive pub, with lots of varied spaces both exterior and interior if anyone wants to hold an event. Room large and comfortable. Very easy to walk into the attractive centre of Newbury which we hadn't been to before. Very good staff

Lovely pub with outdoor space. Food was good and the continental breakfast options in the morning were great. Well located in the town centre. Parking provided free of charge. Room was lovely and clean, with a TV, and a comfortable bed. We had an issue with the parking (received a ticket), but this was sorted quickly and efficiently by the staff.

Only minor things - toilet cistern kept running and extractor fan wasn’t working, but all very small issues that can be fixed really quickly :) Overall, we were very happy.

I LOVED our staff at the Dolphin! When we checked in, I thought 'what an unusually helpful staff member'!! And it just got better from there! ALL the staff went above and beyond the call of duty with SUCH a feeling of helpfulness(kindness?)! Breakfast was very nice!

There really was nothing I didn't like. We had been warned there might be noise from the bar before they closed at 12 but there was not enough to bother me (although I DO sleep with earplugs anyway...).

Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room - it was spacious, with a very comfy bed, really good heating and plenty of tea and coffee on offer. The bathroom was good quality with a lovely bath. We also really enjoyed the continental breakfast on offer, which was very much a help yourself model but with plenty of options available. The location is fantastic for walking around Newbury.
