Booked for just one night as part of a birthday treat for my wife. We needed an early start the day after for a visit to Monkey World (well worth a visit). The hotel was very welcoming, we were greeted by Nicky as we came through the door, once I stated we had a room booked, she took us straight there and explained everything we needed to know on the way. The room was large and airy, simple but good quality furniture, with everything you could need for a short (or longer) stay.

There was nothing that we didn't like, the staff were friendly, but not over attentive.... perfect.

Good location, great food, cosy, staff were all very nice and friendly. The bar had a lovely atmosphere. Free parking. I felt very relaxed and would have liked to have stayed longer. The food is fantastic, portions are huge and cooked to order. We enjoyed a great meal and breakfast the next morning. We slept very well. The room is not huge, but it did meet all our needs. The shower was great. Bathroom clean. I would definitely return. Thankyou.

I struggle to think of anything that I disliked but maybe somewhere to hang clothes. We only stayed one night, so it wasn't much of a problem.

Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Bath! Close to coast. Good food.

Although the bedroom had great blackout curtains, there was no door between the bedroom and the entrance way, which had a window which let in lots of light. I was woken up at 4:15am by the light coming in that window. Also, the dining table nearest the car park has a low-hanging lamp over it, which we and another diner banged our heads on several times during our stay. It needs removing or raising please!

What a gem. Staff did everything they could to make me and my small dog feel at home. They were kind, considerate and helpful, making sure we had what we needed, providing a water bowl, dog bed, towel and treats (we had of course brought our own but this was a lovely gesture) and telling me about local walks. Breakfast was lovely and they were very polite and accommodating about my ketogenic dietary choice. The room was comfy, well maintained, clean and homely. We’re looking forward to our next visit.

Nothing not to like!

Ideally situated in East Dorset for access to Isle of Purbeck and local attractions Lulworth, Corfe Castle, Blue Pool and RSPB Arne. Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World Close by also. Ample parking, rooms basic but functional. Bar/Restaurant serving food to c8.30 and also beer garden. Great service and banter from Lizzie! Nothing was ever too much trouble. Good value breakfast and options available to "build your own" full English!

The room was compact but very comfortable. The hosts and staff were very welcoming and engaging. The hotel has a lot of history and charm and the owners were very happy to explain and show. The location was very good for access to local attractions, eg Durdle Door and Corfe Castle. Breakfast and dinner were both very good. Will stay again.

The WiFi proved to be somewhat intermittent but over all this did not majorly detract from the stay.

Lovely old, dog friendly, character pub. Easy to find, 5/10 mins from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Large car park. Friendly hosts. We had room 3. Clean and comfortable room. Comfy bed and room temperature was just right. Property was roadside but that didn’t disturb our sleep. Good hot shower. Dog fee was £25 a night and included bed, bowl, towel, mat and treats provided. Small wall mounted TV but had decent sound and picture. To be honest, the TV is not big on our tick list on a get away from it all trip. Evening meals were really delicious and so was breakfast 😋 Thanks for making us feel so welcome x Last reviewer I notice gave 1/10. Don’t know what their issue was. I felt if we’d had a problem with anything, the proprietors would have been happy to help. Can’t please everyone I suppose 🙄😊

The food was excellent and the premises had a lot of character and set in a very pleasant area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was generally very good and comfortable, also very well insulated and sound proofed we noticed this as a busy main road passed in front of the property. The bed was especially good and comfortable.

The bathroom lamp above the sink did not work and made shaving difficult. We reported this on the first day of our stay but it was not rectified .

Unfortunately I left early before breakfast , but going last years experience the breakfast was very good . As for the location , although next to a main road it was not intrusive and when you wake up you smell the fresh air and hear the birds chirping away what more could you want

I cannot find any faults with my experience , the staff were very attentive and very pleasant and i look forward to going back next year if not sooner.

We decided to stay in the area to visit the Lulworth Cove as well as Durdle Door and for doing this the Red Lion is in the perfect location. We had a very warm welcome and all staff was very nice and supportive at any time. Our son must eat strictly gluten-free and I have contacted them before to ask if there are any options for him for dinner and breakfast, which they had. This was really good! The pub offers very good food and also the breakfast was really good as you could choose different items from their breakfast offer. We really enjoyed it. It is awesome that there are free parking spaces directly in front of the Red Lion and the WiFi in our room was good. Our room was very clean and our children could sleep on a daybed.

The room we had was okay for one night, but we didn't expect a room this old. The bed was wobbly, the daybed rather uncomfortable. The bathroom was clean, however "old English standard" with a very tiny wahsbasin with one tap for cold and one tap for hot water, so you cannot mix the water for a good temperature. The windows couldn't be closed properly, which was probably because of the really hold house, which definitely had its charme. Staying in the Red Lion for one night was definitely okay, but for the money we paid for one night we had expected a room a bit more up to todays standards. However we do not regret staying there and the staff really made up for it.
