We really liked staying at Raiz, the staff was lovely especially when my partner got sick and we needed to go to the hospital. Their food and the cocktails are divine. I also loved that it was a bit out from the center of La punta. We got the room with balcony and it was very comfy and spacious.

Unfortunately the hotel is next to a hostel that was busting super loud music every other day and it didn’t allow us to fully relax. A second point of attention is something I wouldn’t normally point out in tropical places, but seeing the price we paid for the room, I think it should not be “allowed” in a luxury accommodation, is the enormous amount of insects in the room. There was a literal ants invasion, that didn’t bother us that much cause we don’t mind about insects, but seeing the price tag that’s something I would expect to be taken care of in such a hotel. I also would expect a bit more attention to maintenance in the bathroom, which was not up to standard.

Raíz Hotel in Puerto Escondido is a fantastic place to stay and rest. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcomed. They were all so nice and friendly! The hotel and rooms are beautifully designed and have air conditioning. Their breakfast was delicious and plenty. The welcome drink was a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the rest of our stay. The hotel’s atmosphere is calm and beautiful, making it an ideal spot to unwind while still being close to the beach and restaurants in Puerto Escondido . Highly recommend!

Maybe the street were is located is not so nice, but as soon as you arrive to the hotel everything changes!

The music from the hotel bar was too loud and could be heard in our room. The music was on from 08 am - 10:30 pm and made it difficult to relax in the room during the stay. Our room was only cleaned once during our 4 nights stay which is not really acceptable taking the price into consideration. There is sand everywhere in Puerto Escondido - and also in the room after a day without cleaning. we were also surprised to realize that there was a gap between the roof and the walls which allowed mosquitos and other insects to enter the room and gave the AC an hard time keeping the room at the desired temperature.

Well, this has to be one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. I say ‘place’ and not hotel, because really, it feels more like you’ve come to stay at your (very) cool friends house. Raiz had only just opened as we arrived. It popped up on booking.com the day before and we booked it nervously because, well the photos looked amazing but it had no reviews. Best decision we made this trip. This project has been a labour of love for the young team and you can feel every ounce of love and thought they have poured into it. When you stay, ask them the beautiful story of why it’s called Raiz (Roots). You can see from the photos how beautiful the space is, the rooms, the bar, the pool area, every tiny aesthetic thought about. What you can’t see is the atmosphere they have created. Filled to the brim with thoughtfulness and care everybody connecting and enjoying the space together. Helped along generously by the superb bar and the delicious concoctions that flow out of it. I can highly recommend the Brebaje, a mezcal cocktail with Oaxacan mint that is good for digestion, it’s basically medicine. In fact everything here, the food and the drink is all steeped in Oaxacan tradition. Whilst we were there the restaurant was yet to open in the evening (this was happening at the end of Jan). However, as we were on our honeymoon they treated us to a sneak peak at what they would be offering and organised us a candlelit 5 course tasting menu on the roof. WOW. We knew it would be good because the brunch and lunch menu was so delicious but WOW. Once they open for food this place will be buzzing. The extra level of care is what this team have got down to a ‘T’ the service is magnificent. They really couldn’t do more for you and it is why we doubled the length of our stay and are already planning on when we will go back. Thank you guys for the most memorable stay x

The location is excellent, its just 2 min away walking from the Main Street where all the restaurants are. The food was amazing, breakfasts, desserts, and the octopus were our favorites.

The hotel is very rustic and pretty, and the staff were super friendly! You can tell that the staff enjoy working there. It is located down on a quiet street however we always felt safe walking through at night. When we arrived, the kitchen had closed 30 minutes earlier however there was no problem making us some food. We were also given a welcome cocktail on arrival, which was so tasty. We had a really nice stay and would stay again.

Our safe was not in operation as a previous guest had lost the key. The hotel safe could only be accessed by the manager who was not there. The shower glass was dirty and was never cleaned during our stay. The floors in areas around the bar were pure sand which may be uncomfortable for some.

Really enjoyed our stay here and would for sure recommend this place. The design is super nice, the staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and the little plunge pool is a great option to cool down on a hot day. Good if slightly pricey coffee. The hotel is not smack in the middle of the buzzy areas of Zicatela but walkable to everywhere, and just a few blocks away from the beach.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this is maybe not the place to stay if you're sensitive to bugs. If you're a light sleeper you might want to bring some earplugs as there are the occasional parties and some construction around. It'd also be great to make the balcony more usable, for example by providing some chairs or a hammock.

I'm really happy I stayed at Raiz Hotel. Fall in love with design. Location is really good - close to Zicatela and all spots for supper or drinks. Personel were super helpfull if we would rent a scooter or book surf lessons. Breakfast were delicious. There are no option book a room with breakfast but You order it everyday and to be honest - were the best. You can chill next to the pool or 2floor where is open space. There are a lot o plants so it was pleasure to relax downstairs.There is sand on the ground by the pool and in the restaurant totally recomended :)

Raiz is a beautiful hotel, and felt like a wonderful retreat in a great area of Puerto Escondido. The welcome cocktail on arrival was great, as were the daily breakfasts. The staff really looked after us especially when my partner was ill and needed somewhere to stay temporarily post checkout, which we hugely appreciated.

The hotel has a beautiful tropical feel, the rooms are clean, and the staff were great. A special thank you to Sebastian and Anna, who were so helpful and welcoming. :) The location is good, close to the beach, shops, and restaurants. The air conditioning and fan work well in the rooms, which is necessary in the heat.
