Location was excellent for what I required the room for including the accessibility to leave early. The hotel section has security camera's so you felt safe during the night, and you had access to the pub next door for a meal/beverage, with heaters for seating outside. Staff and 'pub-dog' were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Upon arrival there was no-one at the reception desk, but the pub next door had a the information required and the keys for the entry to your room. The rooms were basic, 3 piece white suit in the bathroom which is dated with some holes in the wall. A file is located on the desk by the TV, with a the information of the services provided including the take-away pizza you can get from the pub to eat in the room, and other information regarding your stay within the facilities. All rooms have a kettle with tea and coffee, access to get more over the counter down at reception. (Fortunately I brought my own milk) Bed was comfortable and the room looked out over the rear carpark. For 1 night stay, at a basic rate, it was acceptable and reasonable value for money. Overall, my stay was satisfactory with excellent location, friendly staff, and basic amenities, though the WiFi signal was frustratingly poor and the room didn't match the advertised photos.
During the evening I wanted to get some work completed however due to the diabolical signal from the WiFi (Pub WiFi and 5G attempted), it was incredibly painful and time consuming to attempt to sign off activities - this led to me giving up in the end. (Room wasn't like the advertised photos)

I selected the Cat & Lion for my stay due to it's location. The hotel was clean, my room was clean albeit now slightly dated. The shower worked well and the room was quiet and the bed comfortable. I had an evening meal in the bar which was well presented, well cooked and tatsy. The breakfast on my 2nd morning was also very good. The staff were all excellent, helpful, polite and happy.
The only issue was the time for breakfast on the weekend, 0845 was a too late for my 1st morning, but Ok for the 2nd morning. The hotel did provide me with croissants on the 1st evening or my use as breakfast on the Saturday which was helpful.

I was attending an event at the Park Royal Hotel nearby and chose the Cat and Lion as a more economic option. I ended up being pleasantly surprised by the size and comfort level of the room both of which exceeded all my expectations. The hotel is an annex at the side of the pub, which means you have the convenience of the pub (which does really good food) but none of the noise levels.
There's really not much negative I can say here as everything was good, but a minor quibble might be that I felt as though there should have been better instructions regarding breakfast, but it was easy enough to work out for yourself.

All the staff I met in the pub and hotel were warm, friendly and helpful people. The hotel was clean and had good facilities. There was plenty of parking and it was easy to find. The food in the pub was very good.
The room had an intersecting door to the next room. As I had been given two keys, I assumed one key must be for the intersecting door. I put the key in the intersecting door and unlocked it but didn't open it as I could hear people in the adjacent room. As a solo female traveller, I felt unsafe. The light from the next room was on most of the night and visible under my door. In the morning I unlocked the door and opened it and found that it had been boarded between the rooms so no-one could have entered. I realise I could have checked it during the night, but I was unsure whether I would disturb the other guests. I feel this could have been made clear when I went into the room- e.g a notice on the desk or info when I collected the key.

On the first day I had the Eggs Benedict which was very good. Dinner was also very good on both nights. I liked the parking and the staff were friendly.
Breakfast on Day 2 was poor. American pancakes that were obviously made some time in the past and kept under a heat lamp which made them hard and inedible. I would have liked any other type of coffee to be available Eg Cappucino. The room I was in was on the ground floor and could really have benefitted from being aired out. There was a rather stale smell that resolved on Day 2 after I was able to open the windows and get some fresh air in.

Picked this place at random as we were riding our motorcycles down the UK and wanted something in this area that was relatively safe and secure and not in a major town. This worked out perfectly. The attached pub was buzzing and we were too late for food but we just ordered a take away and hand it delivered whilst we enjoyed a few beers. Breakfast was great, service was decent.
The hotel is kind of a separate building and no real vibe, more like a motel than a hotel. Rooms were large, clean and decent though.

We have never stayed in a more welcoming and friendly hotel. My brother, sister and I were going to a wedding locally. My sister has learning disabilities and is very fussy about what she will eat and the staff were amazing and altered the menu to suit her, nothing was too much trouble. Which is not always the case. The manager was excellent and very helpful, and the staff although young were efficient and polite. Well done The Cat and Lion. we will come again

The warm reception and friendliness of the staff. The room was clean, warm and had everything I needed.
Not that it really mattered but I was surprised that there was no housekeeping - I was later told it was because I was only staying two nights. There is a note in the room about hanging up towels if I didn't need them changed - a note about making my own bed (hardly an effort) would have been courteous. I found the menu rather obscure but ordered the stake and ale pie. Unfortunately, I couldn't cut through the pastry :(

Location is indeed a great one, not far from M56 and down the road from Warrington. The rooms were of a good standard, if abit in need of a bathroom paint touch up. Original room had an issue with the TV, which instigated a room change, all done within 20 minutes. The Sunday roast available was well cooked, fresh meat and vegetables. Breakfast was also included in the price, well cooked and quickly served. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Definitely would stay there again. A Holt's Brewery pub, real ale and as a CAMRA member much appreciated with draft ale like Two Hoots.
The bathrooms in both rooms a a bit tired, needing a touch of paint and TLC. Otherwise, all good.
