This was our second visit to Hotel Katerina, which says it all. We love the fact that it's on its own island, just a few minutes' free boat ride to Rovinj on the mainland. The rooms are comfortable with great views. The breakfasts are excellent. There is a small shingle beach with swimming (take beach shoes for the rocks) and plenty of sun loungers for guests. You can sit under the trees in the shade if preferred. And Rovinj is a beautiful town with lots of interesting shops and fab restaurants.

The only thing we don't like are the seagulls which can be very aggressive if you eat outside - at breakfast or lunch time. You can't leave food unattended and have to shoo them away. Alternatively, you can eat inside in the spacious dining room.

The setting was fabulous, so spacious inside the public areas and outside in the extensive grounds. There were loads of sunloungers around the pools and dotted round the island on little beaches and under trees. Really quiet and though the hotel was full you could easily find somewhere to relax. The boat ride to and from the island was really quick and easy. The staff were all really friendly, helpful and welcoming. The buffet food was generally very tasty. We had a lovely relaxing 6 days and were so glad we chose it as although not totally up to date, it was a really special experience.

We found the pillows very hard which for us was the only real drawback.

Everything was truly great. Starting from the beginning, the organization with parking was excellent. You arrive at the marina, unload your luggage, then follow a van with your car to a larger parking area. The van then brings you back to the marina. The ferry to the island runs every hour. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with the luggage and provided everything we needed. We were accommodated in a beautiful room with a view of the town of Rovinj. The food was very tasty — I especially appreciated that it wasn’t too crowded and that the food was nicely presented. The island itself is beautiful and feels far removed from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. Due to a recent storm, a few trees had fallen, but the staff are working hard to clear them. The island also has a good tennis court, which made playing there very enjoyable. We’ll definitely be coming back.

I had the pleasure to stay at this wonderful hotel for the second time and again it has exceeded my expectations. The staff at the reception and the restaurant were incredibly kind, responsive and supportive. They truly went above and beyond to ensure that each guest gets the most out of the stay. Everything in this hotel functions perfectly, from the breakfast offerings to the services at the beach. I can’t recommend this hotel enough for anyone looking for a flawless stay at the most beautiful location in Rovinj.

This is obviously a resort hotel that I imagine gets rammed between June to September. However, despite staying in April for just two nights, we were still treated well and got to do everything we wanted to do. All facilities were available for guests to use (including the clay tennis courts which were a personal first for me and my wife) aside from the outdoor bars and poolside hot tub which is understandable when staying out of peak season. There is a guests only hourly boat that runs to and from the island and two locations in Rovinj from morning until late at night which is also useful. The views of Rovinj from the island are absolutely stunning and the kids loved climbing on the rocks that circle the island, collecting abundant sea glass on the pebble beaches and dipping their toes in the Adriatic.

I understand a nearby Maistra Select Hotel has a heated pool. Despite being an Englishman who didn't mind freezing his nadgers off during a bracing swim, I think a heated pool would extend the appeal of the hotel for guests during non peak season months for guests who visit from warmer climates.

We had a great time. Rovinj is fantastic, the location of the hotel, its facilities are special, the beach around the island is wonderful. The staff was kind, helpful and they always was smiling. The food (we had half board) was delicious and the food of selection was great. I would especially like to highlight that the food was refilled quickly.

There was no extractor fan in the bathroom

Best buffet breakfast I've ever seen and eaten. Pools spotless and interesting. Island location was great for peace and quiet and the beach was lovely. The ferry service was reliable and hourly. We needed the air con. because the temp was in high 30's and it delivered blissfully chilled air.

Would have liked an a la carte dinner service rather than buffet for a change. Our rooms (suite) were beginning to look a bit tired, but perfectly acceptable.

We love this hotel and already visited it twice. It is very confortable and its rusticity and patina adds to its charm. The views are incredible. Staff was friendly.

Coffee could be better. In the halfboard, diner is included but drinks are not, therefore glasses are provided only if you buy drinks.. and plain water is charged more than in Kuweit in the middle of the desert.

The hotel staff is great! Every interaction was pleasant, and everyone was nice. No motor veichle traffic on the island was a great thing I did not know I needed! The island is quiet, there were no crowds, and it gave us a great setting for peaceful relaxation. Both the pools and the main beach are great for families with kids (we has no needs to test out the other beaches, but they look cosy, as well). Ferry lines ran on time, and the trip to Rovinj took like 8 minutes, which was great for impromptu tour of Rovinj or hitting the market. Hotel buffet for dinner and breakfast was pretty rich, there were a lot of options at all times to choose from. All in all, great!

Only minor old-man-yelling-at-the-clouds things - a lifeguard (or an official person actually being able to enforce some of the rules) at the pool would be a plus. A 15ish y.o. brat jumped from a bridge over the pool into it, and on my kid, who then drank a bunch of pool water and was generally shook. That kind of sucked, but the hotel is not to blame - bathroom keys being available in the rooms, at least on request - more options for lunch would be cool (I understand that, as this is an island, that is a bit harder to do, just something that would be cool)

Place is amazing. The infrastructure of the hotel as well, food solid...

Rooms are tiny. We had a standard room and were upgraded to an apartment but it was still very small...20sq meters maximum. Also rooms are old so can not look clean even though they are...And bathrooms are also old, which makes 1st impression not so good. Nonetheless, our stay was very pleasent and we were happy with it.
