Very friendly host on arrival. Stayed 2 nights in the cutest motel room. Large living area, separate kitchen which was fully equipped separate bedroom and a separate bathroom area. Loads of cupboards and places to sit including a full size dining table and lounges. Electric blankets made for a cosy nights sleep. The grounds of the motel are immaculate with the gardens being very well maintained. There is lots of green space and even a little playground. This is an absolute gem of a place which should not be overlooked. Would not hesitate to book here again.

It was all great and well above expectations.

Enjoyed the rural outlook and quiet at the back, comfortable bed and couch, good size fridge, well-equipped kitchenette

Didn’t like the outside toilet especially at night ( lots of moths etc) and trying to get there if in a hurry. Was expecting one by the main bathroom . Managed to lock myself out once as didn’t know about snibbing the back door! Couldn’t find a sharp kitchen knife and a small frypan would be helpful for just one but otherwise kitchen well equipped . Also hadn’t realised how far out of town on the motorway towards Dunedin it was . Good to phone and get some landmarks not just a main road number.

We booked one night and had our pet terriers with us as Pets are welcome as advertised. Unfortunately after arriving we found out our pet terriers were not allowed. The advert did not state that there was a policy of no dogs allowed So naturally the owner was a bit anxious, but after giving the owner assurance that we would keep them quiet, off furniture, and that they were flea-free! we were allowed to stay the night. A bit frustrating really when you've been travelling and tired to find out you possibly had no accomm that you've already paid for. We ended up having an enjoyable night and left the place spotless!

We had the back unit and it had a lovely outlook and was quiet, although on a major road. It was very good value for money. There is a separate laundry available. There's a carport. A building from maybe the 1960s and entirely adequate to our needs but somewhat basic by today's standards. Friendly proprietor and very clean. It was great to have a kitchen even though we didn't use it much. Double bed in the main room and separate bedroom with 3 single beds.

Low water pressure. Toilet out the back with varying floor levels.

Older style units in a very convenient location just a little bit south of Oamaru. My unit was very comfortable and quiet despite the location just off the highway. It was great having a motel-style kitchen, and my unit had a separate bedroom with single beds in it (I didn't need those, but it was lovely having so much space). There were cattle in the paddock on the hill and a sunny spot to sit just outside the unit that was fairly private. Very friendly owner. Unit was very clean and tidy. It was just what I needed.

Kerry and his staff do a terrific job. Very friendly and helpful. Room was exceptionally clean and kitchen well stocked. Bed very comfortable. Although the unit are retro, they were built in the day when fittings were made in NZ (not offshore) and are of a very high quality. Hence they have lasted the years and everything worked well e.g. taps, shower, light switched and electricial outlets. Better than many more modern holiday apartments. Obviously they have been well maintained.

It was on the located on the main highway south but we did not find it noisy.

The price was reasonable in the area. Really pleasant and helpful staff/owners. Older, but very clean, neat, and tidy accommodation. Probably the most comfortable bed during our whole trip. I hadn't expected our cabin to be serviced, but it was a pleasant surprise, even did our dishes, which I was going to do later!

Shower water pressure was really weak, but not a deal breaker, the water was hot. Our cabin was right at the back of the property, only just head traffic noise from main road which the Motel sits on. Rooms closer to the road would be noisier.

Alma is our go-to motel whenever we are visiting Oamaru. The motel is always spotless and the hosts are lovely. Prices are very competitive. It isn't a modern motel so the facilities might not suit everyone and being located on the main road there is traffic noise but I don't consider either of these detract from the charm on offer.

There is nothing that we don't like about Alma.

This place is a hidden gem, off the road from the main traffic the refurbished cottages are very clean, roomy and comfortable . We appreciated the practical kitchen , the quiet venue and the cosy feel of Alma Motel .

I have stayed in many places over the years and this was fine . Yes the kitchen tongs may need replacing and the cutting knife blunt but that is the same in my own home .

For a last minute booking when there was no accomodation left in Oamaru or Dunedin and the cost I wasn’t expecting much. My expectations were hugely exceeded, it was no problem for us to collect the key prior to check in time on our way though to Dunedin, the room was spotless (cleaner than some 5 star accommodation I’ve stayed in) and not dated. To top things off when we got back at 2:30am on a freezing cold night we found the heaters had been turned on in the room something so simple yet so thoughtful. Would 100% recommend!
