I absolutely loved everything about my stay at Casa Sofia. From the moment I arrived, Luis made me feel so welcome. He’s incredibly friendly and helpful, which added a personal touch to the whole experience. The atmosphere was exactly what I needed for my relaxing solo trip: peaceful, quiet, and serene. It felt like a hidden oasis where I could truly unwind. The bedroom was spacious and beautifully kept, and the bed? Pure heaven. The mattress and pillows were super comfy, and the bedsheets smelled amazing—such a small detail, but it made every night feel luxurious. I slept like a baby every single night. If you're looking for a tranquil escape with warm hospitality and cozy comfort, Casa Sofia is the place. I’ll definitely be back!

Nothing, everything was great!

We had a great time staying at Casa Sophia! Communication with the owner via WhatsApp is good and the manager Luis is very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and very clean and looked just like the pictures on booking. The area is quiet and peaceful and located outside of the busy centre. We originally booked for 5 nights but decided to travel to Holbox earlier and it was no problem for us to book an extra night. Casa Sophia was a lovely ending from 3 weeks travelling in Mexico. We would definitely recommend staying here if you don’t mind a 15 min walk to the centre and beach!

Nothing!

We booked the superior king room which was at the very top of the property. Whilst this involved a lot of steep steps - so you need to be reasonably fit to manage particularly with your luggage - it was fabulous. We had a very private balcony area with gorgeous 270 degree views and could see the coast all the way around. The room itself was lovely too, really comfortable, spacious and very clean. I would strongly recommend this room over any of the others which were lower down and didn't have the same view - it is worth the extra. The owner Luis was on-site a lot and really friendly and helpful. We had read a lot of mixed reviews about Holbox but ended up really loving the island. It wasn't expensive like we had read - indeed there were restaurants in every price category. In early March it wasn't very crowded, and there was a lovely relaxed vibe everywhere. We went with realistic expectations about the flooding on some of the roads and Luis helped us find routes to the town/beach that avoided the worst of the flooding and it was always possible to walk around rather than through the mud/puddles.

The hot water in the shower ran through very quickly and was enough for 1 person. But it soon heated up again so this was no big deal. The roads immediately outside the property had some rubbish and suffered from flooding - but this improved a couple of blocks down so again it was no real issue. The quality of this accommodation made up for these few things.

Luis is the perfect host, checking in with everyone before arrival. The room (Star room) is great, plenty of space and a very comfy bed. Very comfortable place to stay, if not a bit far from the town square.

(This didn’t influence rating of Casa Sofia): just be advised that almost all streets around the accommodation are flooded, some with green water (sewage according to two locals). Plenty of raccoons around there. Hope that this gets solved, though some argued that there’s hidden interests to keep the roads in this condition (such as the taxi drivers). Town square still accessible by foot, but takes around 8 mins longer.

If you decided to come to Holbox and went into all the trouble of getting there - just book Casa Sofia (one less thing to think about). It’s a fantastic place, a little walk from main activities and noise, a true paradise. Amazing staff, Luis (the owner) is really taking care of things, super friendly, kind and there to help or advice. Honestly, if I could - I would rate it 100/10 as it was one of the best stays for us in recent travels. Look no further and book the place.

Truly nothing

The room has been designed in a way that encorporates the island elements, such as shell decorations in a tasteful way. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the outdoor space with the view of the island and a hammock to relax in completed the island experience for us. The host was very helpful and proactive in checking if we needed anything during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation.

If you're a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing earplugs for this room as you could hear vehicles and birds from outside. This wasn't an issue for us.

This was one of the best places we stayed at during our trip to the Yucatan Peninsula! Do yourself a favor and stay at the top floor, you'll have sea views all over from your personal balcony with a hammock. The upper floor being a palapa adds to the island vibes. The bed is huge and very comfy. We appreciated the fridge and kitchen utensils. Cute bathroom, with a shell as showerhead. Water pressure was good, I think it was possible to have a hot shower, but we've only showered cold during our stay. Luis is super friendly and helped us with arranging a whale sharks tour and the taxi to the ferry after check out. Would definitely recommend!!!

Casa Sofia is an absolute gem on Isla Holbox! The rooms are beautifully decorated and so comfortable. Luis is an excellent host - he was really kind and helpful and checked in to make sure everything was going well with my stay. The location is also really good, very close to everything but in a nice quiet spot. I would definitely stay here again and would absolutely recommend it!

Very well thought out room, designed beautifully with large bed facing lovely terrace. Great views ! Location is great for getting to the beach, restaurants and ferry...all easy walking distance. It was quiet too, and the bed is very comfy so got a good night's rest. Complimentary coffee is great, and we made use of the small fridge to make our own breakfasts. Owners are helpful and very friendly. It's very clean too! Great Aircon and room fan. Can recommend.

Not anything really, a bit pricey but this is reflective of Holbox I believe. Would have liked a broom/brush for us in the room so we could sweep terrace of sand. The cleaner did this daily, but we would often we back and forth from the beach so we were often bringing sand in alot.

This was one of our favourite stays in Mexico! It’s the perfect place for an island stay like Holbox. First of all, the rooms look better than in the photos. Real charming and well maintained! Second, Luis is a real good host with great communication. He shared some good restaurant recommendations and got lots of other tips or things he can arrange for you. Definitely recommend staying here if you want a more authentic island vibe!
