Gorgeous old pub/hotel recently refurbished. Lovely ambience, stunning setting, historical building and beautiful room with very very comfy bed. Everything was just perfect. Felt very safe and secure as a solo female guest. I was lucky enough to have a separate bath as well as a shower - a stunning room. The staff were welcoming and friendly, particularly Ffion who checked me into my room and served dinner. Really sweet girl. The main restaurant is just breathtaking with huge glass walls/windows and views over open countryside but I ate in the bar for the two nights I stayed as it was less formal and cosier for a lone diner. Beautiful open fire! Having all the satellite channels on TV in my room was an added bonus, as was the quiet, peaceful setting - although I did visit mid-week and it may well be busier at weekends. Plenty of room for parking too. I have family in the greater area and a lot of past connections to Maesteg so will definitely return and will bring my husband next time.

The Old House 1147 exceeded our expectations! We stayed for one night to celebrate my birthday, and it was the perfect escape with my fiancé. Firstly, the views are absolutely spectacular—especially from the restaurant and the beer garden. We stayed midweek, so it was much quieter than the weekend, which made it feel even more peaceful and relaxing. This place has a unique charm and is very different from our usual stays—perfect if you just want to unwind and chill. The staff were brilliant—friendly, helpful, and professional. It really does make all the difference when the service is that good. We made a reservation for dinner, and breakfast was included with our stay. I had the lamb rump and my fiancé chose the sea bass—both dishes were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Big thumbs up to the chef! Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive, with a great selection of juices, teas, coffees, cereals, and hot breakfast options. We both went for the full English and it was fantastic. The atmosphere here is so chilled. If you're looking for a stay with stunning views, excellent food, good beer, and clean, comfortable rooms—I highly recommend The Old House 1147. You won’t be disappointed!

Just a small piece of constructive feedback. We booked the bridal suite, which was clean, tidy, and had a lovely rustic-modern charm. The freestanding bathtub was a great bonus! However, the suite has two windows—one overlooks the restaurant's beer garden and the other faces the road. Although there are curtains, I feel that adding voile panels would help create a greater sense of privacy during the day without blocking the natural light. I personally prefer not to feel visible to passers-by when I’m trying to relax. If we stay again, I’d likely choose one of the other rooms with a terrace that opens directly onto the main beer garden—it would be perfect because you can relax on the terrace and enjoy a better view.

This pub/restaurant is in one of the most beautiful locations you could wish for. Panoramic views over the valley, sensitively restored building with wonderful rooms that have been carefully designed in keeping with the building - amazing.

One small point and not in relation to the building or staff. I am disabled and there are steep steps down from the carpark to the building and steep steps with a turn up to the rooms. It would be good to have a notice if you do have mobility issues, but I wouldn't let this stop you from visiting.

Beautiful property and location - the views are amazing with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. The room is beautiful, ground floor setting with a seating area outside overlooking the hills. Inside the room, the bed & pillows are very comfortable, amazing shower. The TV is a little on the small side but still very good. Before 21:30, the room is a little loud as you’re underneath the restaurant, but after that it becomes very quiet & sleep is easy. Food at the restaurant is 10/10, absolutely amazing & great value for money. Service from the staff is amazing & everyone was very friendly. 100% would rebook, amazing.

I only booked a single bed room as I was travelling on my own for work. The lanes leading to the hotel are very narrow as the hotel is in a very quiet location. On artival youll find The Old House has a huge car park and is a very beautiful old building thats immaculately cared for. The reception from the staff was very welcoming and I was showed to my room. The bed was very comfortable, tea and coffee provided and an excellent shower. The breakfast was excellent with great cooked and excellent filter coffee. The staff who I met were also very friendly and helpful. The view from the breakfast room was beautiful. I think as a place to take a break, staying here would be lovely and it would also be a brilliant place to have a wedding. So, book your stay here with confidence. Its a lovely hotel, great customer service and I think good value for money.

The lanes you have to drive to get to the hotel are very very narrow and not nice to drive in the dark. However, its also why the hotel is so nice. Sometimes great places are a little off the beaten track. Its not a dislike, but you need to know what to expect.

A fabulous hotel which I've stayed in a number of times. As a solo traveller it's nice when staff go the extra mile to make one feel at ease. This is sadly often overlooked in many places. Not here, the staff are wonderful. Helpful, friendly and chatty. The room was small but perfectly appointed and with a couple of tweaks it could be perfect. The breakfast was delicious too.

I wasn't sure how to turn the fan off in the ensuite so it was whirring through the night but that may have simply been a switch I missed. It didn't disturb my sleep too much so was a minor issue. It would be helpful to have a mirror in the room as the one in the bathroom is quite high up. Minor issues which would not stop me rebooking, a fabulous hotel with lovely staff.

Breakfast was good quality and served quickly. The single room is a VERY VERY small room. Unfortunately, the pictures of this room are not shown on the website, though all other rooms are pictured. So you assume you are going into a standard single room. As a result, the single bed didn't feel like a standard single bed, I'm under 6ft and my feet were fully at the edge. Nonetheless, the room was smart, the ensuite bathroom was very nice. The food is good is of a high standard and good value, with a lot of choices. The location sits at the top of a hill and the only way in and out is along single-track roads with walls of bushes either side. Good luck in anything the size of an estate car and up if you meet an oncoming vehicle, I had to reverse a few times to let people pass. One time, two vehicles and a van had to reverse about 30 yards to let someone pass.

Miscommunication about the time cooked breakfast was served meant we could have had a cooked breakfast an hour earlier that was communicated and left. The toilet needs securing to the floor, it wobbles. A bedside lamp in the room would be nice, as the LED lights are very bright. The only option was to turn on the ensuite light and close the door slightly to have some indirect light.

The staff were extremely friendly the room was spotless. We booked a table for food the food was exceptional cooked perfectly. I watched on as I think it was the manager took his time to interact with children that was also in the restaurant all the staff there were amazing not pushy and also wait for you to actually eat some food before asking if the food is OK absolutely will be visiting again. whole experience was fantastic easy to check in easy to check out very quiet considering they're open till 11pm with people in and out

If i had to pick something just to fill the box The water isn't hot straight away in the room and that's just me being really picky.

The room itself had a nice interior and was clean. Everything looked like in the pictures. Breakfast was also pretty good. The view from our room and the restaurant was stunning!

The check in wasn’t the most welcoming and the woman was short on words. There was still water in the shower either from the cleaning or the previous residents. A floor lamp or some kind of bedside lamp would be a nice addition. And the way to the Old House was also quite the ride. Just keep that in mind if you’re not a local and want to get there by night.

Amazing view and location - very scenic. Hotel newly renovated, nice mix between modern and traditional. Good food. Free parking (but also need a car to get there in the first place).

Not the place for a light sleeper - floor creaks very audibly every time someone walks in the hallway and there is next to no sound isolation (as could be expected in a historic place).
