Great location, provided exactly what we needed. Evening meal was good, breakfast was excellent, freshly prepared & so tasty. Dog friendly doesn’t describe it, Theo was reluctant to leave😂 What was outstanding was the staff. From the moment we arrived in reception, the gentleman looking after us in the bar, ladies at breakfast and the cleaners… WOW! Welcoming, friendly, generous with their time and attention to detail. The team at the Swan clearly love their jobs, this level of care and pride cannot be forced. This will be our last visit to Hay as we are moving abroad. We thank everyone at the Swan for making it a memorable visit.

We have stayed at The Swan Hotel previously and really enjoyed it. After I made this booking, I telephoned the hotel to request the same room that we had previously. I was advised by a very helpful lady called Vanessa, that that room wasn't available through booking.com but as we had stayed there previously they would allocate this room to us. A most fabulous, large room with comfortable chairs and a sofa. The best deluxe room in the hotel (I think). The warm and friendly welcome from the staff when we arrived and throughout our stay could not have been better. A real pleasure to stay at The Swan at Hay, we will return.

Nothing, the hotel was as we expected. There is nothing not to like.

Easy to check in / out, they had an electric car charger, friendly staff. Dinner was great and the continental breakfast was very good too. Comfy bed, clean room.

Biggest gripe: "the coffee machine doesn't go on until 10am" - coffee, the thing that is supposed to wake you up starts at 10am. Only filter coffee before then. Luckily it had been left on the night before so somone made me one, but it's a silly rule. black out blinds maybe. Breakfast could start earlier than 8am.

having stayed at the hotel 2 years ago i was greeted by the manager who knew me, in fact 4 of the original staff were working and really loved their positions. the whole atmosphere was of quiet efficiency. abreakfast was well organised and food standard very good. Lunch selection good and again good service.

the room i had did not have a comfortable chair but this is being looked into.

Location in town. A few minutes walk into Hay on Wye. Free car parking. Beautiful hotel with happy and friendly staff. The room was clean, airy and the bed was very comfortable, plenty of tea / coffee and bottle water available in room. The bathroom is clean and has a lovely powerful shower. Bar areas well stocked with refreshing alcoholic drinks as well as coffee/hot chocolate. Breakfast cooked fresh to order. With plenty on offer for less big appetites with yogurts, fresh fruit & juices, cereals, cheese, hams, mini croissants and cereals. Will definitely stay again

Dinner and breakfast were both very good. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming.

Little explanation was given about the parking situation. With 18(?) rooms there were only 12 parking spaces (a couple of which were reserved for charging electric cars) were on site, so we had to pay at the public car park a few 100 yards away. There was no visible signage for the hotel on the way in from the road. On the Sunday evening, it did appear that they were short-staffed - although, as stated, those there were pleasant and worked hard.

This is my second time I’ve visited here and I’ve never been disappointed. All the staff go out of their ways to be as helpful as possible especially the reception team . The food is amazing and dogs are welcome everywhere except the dining room which is understandable with hygiene. Everything was perfect ! Highly recommended.

All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Everything was spotless clean especially our bedroom.

Dinner and breakfast were lovely and the staff were, without exception, helpful and friendly. There are numerous rooms for relaxation and it is great that the hotel is open throughout the day for meal service. The bedrooms are presented beautifully.

I would never mention a problem that I hadn't mentioned to the staff. By 00.45am my friend and I realised that we were not going to be able to sleep owing to noise from the kitchen fans. One call to reception and the lovely Nathan arranged for new rooms for both of us. How an establishment deals with problems is important and full marks are given here. Just a little point: given the loss of sleep and the inconvenience of a midnight move maybe a little reduction in the bill would have been a good PR exercise. Having said that I would be delighted to stay at The Swan again.

.Fabulous, rich breakfast. Location. Cleanliness. . Since we did not want to climb stairs, we received a room on the ground floor of the annex, facing the Hotel car park . We both liked and disliked this room location: On the one hand, it was convenient since our car parked just at our doorstep, on the other hand, we could not open the windows curtains as it meant losing our privacy

The room was very small,k however - it was OK for our 1 night stay. The atmosphere of a somewhat cold efficiency.

Staff were overall very friendly but seemed a bit “stretched”. The breakfast was quite good but, although we can understand the need to reduce “waste”, it (the breakfast itself) was perhaps a bit too reduced, and we felt a bit embarrassed to ask for more when there wasn’t anything left on the buffet. But perhaps the guests who got in early had been very hungry !
