We had a fabulous two night stay at The Smithy, which is very conveniently located an easy 3 mile drive from Hay on Wye. We stayed in the Paddock View room - the view from the balcony was stunning and we enjoyed watching the sheep and hens in the paddock at the end of the beautiful garden. The room had a contemporary feel and was immaculately clean and comfortable. It had a fridge with water and fresh milk, good wifi, tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was great with a roll top bath, walk-in shower and lovely fluffy towels. The breakfast…. oh the breakfast! We have never had such an extensive and high quality choice of breakfast whilst staying at a b&b. We had eggs freshly laid by the hens in the paddock with a mound of smoked salmon; fresh strawberries, raspberries and grapes; cheese and jalapeno sourdough toast, locally sourced sausages and bacon - I could go on. I wish we could have stayed longer so we could work our way through the menu and sample everything there was to offer. Hosts Christine and Chris were very welcoming and so helpful with suggestions for places to eat and to visit. We will definitely book The Smithy if we are ever in the area again.

Just returned home after a two night stay with my sister. Chose this accommodation because we wanted to visit Hay-on-Wye. I can't praise this B&B enough. It's a gem. We had the annexe- a twin bedded room on the ground floor which has a patio with a garden and amazing views. The room was set up for self-catering needs with a microwave, fridge etc if required. It was spotless and very comfortable. Little touches like a vase of daffodils in the room and milk and Welsh cakes were a nice touch. The owners were wonderful and breakfast was lovely. Excellent value for money, would strongly recommend it. Thank you for your hospitality

I liked everything. Beautiful room with panoramic views all over. Great attention to detail, with everything you might need from mini fridge with fresh milk and cold water, to tea facilities with Welsh cakes, toiletries in bathroom , etc. really comfortable bed. My room was overlooking the beautiful garden with newborn lambs, chickens, black Labrador all animals getting on well. couldn’t be more idyllic. The breakfast was delicious, all locally sourced and fresh. Really friendly helpful hosts and hospitality.

There’s nothing I didn’t like

Lovely annexe with lots of space and amazing view of the countryside backing onto the property. Bathroom was spacious and clean, kitchen has a microwave and fridge so fresh milk for tea and coffee when we arrived. Hosts were great, welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Amazing breakfast served in their home which set us up for the day. Location is perfect for Hay on Wye and the surrounding area, nice part of the world to explore. Couldn’t find fault with our stay and would definitely return. The Pandy Inn was ideal for an evening meal and only 5 minutes away.

That we only stayed one night, wish we’d stayed longer.

The Smithy is lovely. It's about 3 miles outside Hay-on-Wye, surrounded by wide-open hills. The gardens are beautiful and relaxing. The accommodation is really thoughtful - lots of attention to detail. My room had a separate private bathroom, but I also had an ensuite toilet, and was provided with a luxurious bathrobe to go for showers. I also had a mini-fridge so had fresh milk for drinks. The breakfasts were excellent - there was a really good range of choices and the food was delicious. The hosts were really friendly and attentive. I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Great breakfast! And it was nice having access to Netflix! And GORGEOUS garden. Also, Chris met me upon arrival and gave a thorough orientation.

I do wish there had been a place, other than outside in the garden (since it was raining a lot), for me to sit and work on my laptop a bit. My room was quite small and didn't have a view (I had thought it had), so it was just me sitting on my bed. Also, it would be helpful to have a note on the inside of the door into the driveway to not leave the key in the lock. Because it was there, I had a very, very hard time getting in one night from the outside. However, overall it was a lovely stay.

Staying at The Smithy was like staying at your parents home. After a long day & drive setting up a wedding nearby, I felt like I was being wrapped up and looked after by Chris and Christine. The Room was comfortable and even though the weather was a hot a fan was provided to help us stay cool. But the best part of all for me was the garden & breakfast. All freshly made by the hosts, the most delicious scrambled eggs I've ever had (from their own chickens) with locally sourced bread and more. The gardens though were so spectacular and brought so much peace. We even stayed out in the rain admiring everything because it was so beautiful. Thank you for looking after us so well, we'll definitely be back!

Absolutely nothing, the whole stay was exceptional

The location is beautiful, and very convenient for Hay-on-wye. The room was nice and the en-site loo and sink useful. We absolutely loved the garden, with chickens and bee hives and the proper working veg beds. The Breakfast was fantastic, the best we've had in quite a while with homegrown eggs and honey a bonus.

There's very little not to like. The bedroom we were in overlooked a courtyard and another house. but was private and practically every other window looks out over beautiful countryside so it's not an issue. The drive is steep and could be tricky to pull out of in bad weather, but there's a good mirror in place and I'm sure the owners would be happy to assist as 'banksmen' if needed.

This place is amazing! I would highly recommend staying here to everyone. Everything from when we arrived, the welcome we received from Chris was fab, the apartment was absolutely beautiful and comfortable with the most fabulous views and chris even had milk in the fridge and welshcakes for us. To top it off, we had one of the best breakfasts ever all freshly cooked using some of their own produce, we will definitely be returning thank you for an amazing stay

There wasn't one thing we didn't like! The Smithy is fabwhat a find

Absolutely beautiful room with a lovely view. Clean and tidy with everything you'd need for a visit. There's even a small kitchen area with sink, microwave and fridge which is good to note if you want to bring food and drink. Hosts were lovely and really accommodating, and it's only a 7-minute drive to the centre of Hay on Wye, which was really convenient. The included breakfast was delicious, a really nice, varied menu, and lots provided to fill you up for the day. It was all fresh and good quality too. Overall, a lovely short stay which I'd recommend.

I would have loved an earlier check in time, I know it needed to fit around the hosts and we did entertain ourselves with a walk around hay and lunch before check in but we would have happily arrived and checked in earlier if there was an option.
