Great location, provided exactly what we needed. Evening meal was good, breakfast was excellent, freshly prepared & so tasty. Dog friendly doesn’t describe it, Theo was reluctant to leave😂 What was outstanding was the staff. From the moment we arrived in reception, the gentleman looking after us in the bar, ladies at breakfast and the cleaners… WOW! Welcoming, friendly, generous with their time and attention to detail. The team at the Swan clearly love their jobs, this level of care and pride cannot be forced. This will be our last visit to Hay as we are moving abroad. We thank everyone at the Swan for making it a memorable visit.

We have stayed at The Swan Hotel previously and really enjoyed it. After I made this booking, I telephoned the hotel to request the same room that we had previously. I was advised by a very helpful lady called Vanessa, that that room wasn't available through booking.com but as we had stayed there previously they would allocate this room to us. A most fabulous, large room with comfortable chairs and a sofa. The best deluxe room in the hotel (I think). The warm and friendly welcome from the staff when we arrived and throughout our stay could not have been better. A real pleasure to stay at The Swan at Hay, we will return.

Nothing, the hotel was as we expected. There is nothing not to like.

Location in town. A few minutes walk into Hay on Wye. Free car parking. Beautiful hotel with happy and friendly staff. The room was clean, airy and the bed was very comfortable, plenty of tea / coffee and bottle water available in room. The bathroom is clean and has a lovely powerful shower. Bar areas well stocked with refreshing alcoholic drinks as well as coffee/hot chocolate. Breakfast cooked fresh to order. With plenty on offer for less big appetites with yogurts, fresh fruit & juices, cereals, cheese, hams, mini croissants and cereals. Will definitely stay again

Dinner and breakfast were lovely and the staff were, without exception, helpful and friendly. There are numerous rooms for relaxation and it is great that the hotel is open throughout the day for meal service. The bedrooms are presented beautifully.

I would never mention a problem that I hadn't mentioned to the staff. By 00.45am my friend and I realised that we were not going to be able to sleep owing to noise from the kitchen fans. One call to reception and the lovely Nathan arranged for new rooms for both of us. How an establishment deals with problems is important and full marks are given here. Just a little point: given the loss of sleep and the inconvenience of a midnight move maybe a little reduction in the bill would have been a good PR exercise. Having said that I would be delighted to stay at The Swan again.

Dinner and breakfast were both very good. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming.

Little explanation was given about the parking situation. With 18(?) rooms there were only 12 parking spaces (a couple of which were reserved for charging electric cars) were on site, so we had to pay at the public car park a few 100 yards away. There was no visible signage for the hotel on the way in from the road. On the Sunday evening, it did appear that they were short-staffed - although, as stated, those there were pleasant and worked hard.

.Fabulous, rich breakfast. Location. Cleanliness. . Since we did not want to climb stairs, we received a room on the ground floor of the annex, facing the Hotel car park . We both liked and disliked this room location: On the one hand, it was convenient since our car parked just at our doorstep, on the other hand, we could not open the windows curtains as it meant losing our privacy

The room was very small,k however - it was OK for our 1 night stay. The atmosphere of a somewhat cold efficiency.

Location. Food, Staff This was a happy place, ideally situated close to the centre of an exciting , if expensive, Town. The food , whilst not exotic was plentiful and good, but the best part of staying at the Swan was the help and good humour of the Staff.

This is not a modern hotel, and it could perhaps need a bit of a makeover in time, but it has character. I think that the carpets looked a shade tired, and clearly some people would have liked a lift!

Location was excellent. We liked being very close to the town centre and also quick access to beautiful countryside. Staff were very friendly and had great suggestions for local walks. Breakfast was very nice. The room was small and pleasant and clean.

There was a weird noise in our room. We couldn’t figure out what it was or how it was happening. Unfortunately it occurred during our first night. The hotel staff didn’t know what it was either so we bought ear plugs for our second night.

The location was fantastic and the staff were super friendly. The meals were incredible and comfortable bed and it was nice to fit by an open fire and read in the reception/bar areas.

Our room was a little smaller than anticipated but the bed was very comfy. There were some spiders and dust and a few scrapes around the room so a coat of paint would be needed in the near future. Not really a complaint more of a suggestion.

Super location and friendly, helpful staff. Nice breakfast with plenty of choice.

Dated inside and in need of a freshen up. I have stayed several times over the last 7 years and each time I notice it needs more maintenance work to freshen it up to how it was when we first started staying. Noise reduction needed. Paper thin walls and one very noisey neighbour ruined a peaceful night's sleep. This is not the staffs fault, just inconsiderate customers! But some sort of sound proofing would really help.
