The hotel was charming and the restaurant, "Scarlett" was fabulous. Hannah, the gal at the desk when we checked in was very helpful & super friendly. She went above and beyond to help us. Loved her! We loved the fact that we could sit in the library room with the fireplace and get some work/planning done. That was a huge plus!!

Bed was uncomfortable. You shouldn't feel the rim of a bed when you sit on the edge. Otherwise, everything was great except the day we left, a maintenance man was painting our door and trim. When I walked out of the room, I got paint on me and had to go back into the room to wash it off. It was not his fault, he didn't know the room was occupied. He was very apologetic. AGAIN, This was not his fault. I felt the ladies at the front desk really didn't care that his happened. I would have liked to have been offered a discount or a discount for a future stay...I wouldn't have probably accepted it...but an offer would show integrity of your establishment and that you value your patrons.

Every encounter with staff was delightful! Especially, our waitress (Allisyn) at the Scarlet Kitchen. She was cheerful, confident, and very prompt, even with serving multiple tables. Also, one of the front desk staff ( I failed to get her name) was very accommodating when I forgot to grab my sunglasses on our way to check out. She took me back to the room to retrieve them graciously. Even more graciously, greeted me the following morning when I arrived back at the St. James for the bag I also forgot to grab. 😉 We’ll be back!

Actually, now that I really think hard, the toilet seat in room 123 needs some attention.

Friendly staff, clean, comfortable rooms. Bed was very comfy! Excellent dining options and shopping close by. Especially loved our experience at The Port restaurant, a memorable place!

The shower water pressure was low, and the bathroom could be updated. The trains woke us up periodically. The room, while clean and nice, had a bit of an odor. The room was bug free. However, there were a prolific amount of insects on the outside of the building. They could clean that up a bit, so the outside space is as inviting as the inside.

I booked a double queen room with a family member. I have dined at St James before, but never stayed at the hotel. Big beautiful rooms - it was like stepping back in time. Very clean and comfortable beds. I liked the small "museums" on the first floor giving some history of Red Wing. The restaurant was great! Very good breakfast for a decent price. All of the staff that we interacted with were very knowledgeable and friendly toward us. I would definitely stay here again!

Everything was perfect! The stay met my guest and my expectations.!

A rmoantic and classic get-a-way, the room met or exceeded all of our expectations. Friendly staff, things to do within the hotel (flower shop, restaurant, skijump museum, etc), so many thing to see and do! And walkable downtown just across the street, Red Wing shoes, Duluth trading post, so many little breakfast/lunch places, visited three different ones downtown. Only slight complaint, but it was no biggie, was the train whistle at the road intersection nearby. We actually like the sound of trains though, so it wasn't a big deal.

The hotel is impeccably maintained, clean, and beautiful. Even the free parking ramp is clean, well lit, and attached. Lots of parking. The roof top bar and restaurant was SO good. The most comfortable bed ever. Located in the heart of historic downtown Red Wing. Our room overlooked the Mississippi River. Viking Cruise riverboat docked nearby. Easy walk to everything. A+ The city has large, beautiful, flower pots throughout the city on the sidewalks and hanging from light posts everywhere. Absolutely amazing.

The touch screen control for the AC was confusing.

The hotel is beautiful with an abundance of history. This is what makes the stay exceptional. We have stayed at the St James several times, and it is a regular destination for us. The staff is polished and professional. Their gracious attitudes make us feel special. The rooms are clean and mostly comfortable. The on-site restaurant served delicious and chef inspired selections. We will be returning guests.

It would be good to upgrade the bathrooms. They reflect the traditional heritage of the building, but the toilets are so low to the floor they are really child sized fixtures. It is difficult to rise from them especially if you are an older guest. We missed the usual guest bottles of shower products. Now there are prefilled dispensers on the shower wall. The elegance is lost there.

It was a beautiful hotel. We had 3 rooms all on the same floor with our adult children. We loved the museum spaces and displays in the hotel. Food was exceptional, we had dinner and breakfast and would happily return. The gift shop was lovely with nice offerings. It was the perfect location! Everyone said they enjoyed their stay and raved about the comfort of the beds. The library room with the fireplace was lovely!

Most of the breakfast was pretty good. My partner had hashbrowns with his meal and they were not edible. Oily, undercooked (only on one side) just a mushy mess. The service at breakfast was wonderful. For our dinner service on November 5, we had a female server who was just indifferent to us. She did her job but when we said we wanted to order two meals and split them, she told us she 'can't' split plates, which seemed odd since we've done this at many nice restaurants before. The Scarlett Room seemed like it was of the caliber of restaurant that would plate the food accordingly. It worked out but she was really pretty rude and dismissive of requests.

Good and no doubt expensive restoration of a grand 19th century hotel. Beautiful recently-remodeled dining room with excellent servers and skilled chef. Free parking in attached ramp. Great food and attractive public spaces. Excellent shower (though without grab handles), and not a lot of storage in the bathroom to lay out hygiene items. Minnesota-nice employees.

Room pretty small and oddly designed; mysterious divider cutting off part of the space. Not as nice as the pictures. Great high-count sheets, but very very soft mattress. Bed didn't seem like a queen to me. No free breakfast (but what we paid for was great), and no swimming pool.
