Great location (walkable to Lulworth Cove) with good food and drinks at the on-site restaurant. The room is small but efficient enough. Worthwhile to register for the Butcome loyalty app, as they offer great perks (including a big discount on the room if you book directly through them and 25% off all food on Wednesdays). There were great hikes accessible from the doorstep. Be advised some go through a military field, which is only open on weekends and holidays (re: you could otherwise be shot). These areas are very well sign-posted and closed off, so there's no way you could accidentally enter. :)
The room was on top of the kitchen and overlooked the kitchen roof, complete with rat traps. A VERY noisy ventilation fan started at 7:15am and ran until 10:00pm at least. They sent a pre-arrival email saying "we'll do everything we can to accommodate an early arrival!" but when we arrived early, there was nowhere to safely store our luggage so we could go explore the area. We sat there 2 hours waiting for our room, and they only let us in at 3pm sharp when we asked. Room had no aircon, only a fan -- standard in the UK but during a heatwave it was unbearably warm with windows that hardly opened.

The room was extremely comfortable, conveniently attached to the pub - but was still quiet, we weren’t disturbed by noise at all. Breakfast was included, with a wide range of options. All of the staff were exceptional, very friendly and made us feel welcome. The location is great for both Lulworth Cove (15 minute stroll), and Durdle Door, a half 45 minute walk, if you don’t mind a steep climb. We’re already planning a return visit!
Honestly, can’t think of anything negative to say - there were so many nice touches, and the staff worked really hard to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

We stayed at the Castle Inn, Lulworth 21-23 March and wanted to provide some feedback. In summary, this was our first time staying at a Butcombe inn and the experience was excellent! The greeting on arrival, the room, the evening meals, breakfasts, the ambience etc… were all wonderful. The staff who were all first rate – the bar staff, maids, waiters & waitresses, the chefs (I didn’t meet them but the food quality was superb). As mentioned, this was our first time staying at a Butcombe inn & we were unfamiliar with your brand. We have already booked to stay at the George Inn (Norton St Philip) later in the year and based on our first experience I will look at your other locations for future mini breaks!

The room was stylishly decorated, it had great lighting that made it very cosy. Nice tea & coffee facility & great to have a fridge. Really appreciated being given fresh milk ! Breakfast - Good quality produce that was excellently cooked. Dinner - Lovely menu with some old favourites but a nice choice of different dishes too. Again excellent ingredients beautifully prepared.
The bedroom window had a Roman blind that had seen better days & was held up with elastic bands ! A bit of a struggle to get it down & harder to make it stay up . We thought the breakfast menu could have done with a little more explanation as to what staying guests were allowed to choose from. Although we were offered juice & tea & coffee we had never stayed anywhere that you weren’t able to have some fresh fruit/ yoghurt/ cereal before having a cooked breakfast.

Beautiful room. Refreshing to find a place that actually matches the pictures. A phone to call reception in the room. Very good bar staff.
Room is badly insulated from noise of other guests. The manager- after ringing him from my room to tell him the WiFi didn’t work on any of my 3 devices, he told me to come downstairs (so that I could tell him precisely the same)! What is the point of the phone? Why is the manager so lazy? Come to my room instead of me having to get dressed properly to walk into a bar and come down to YOU. Manager- take a note from your staff who are all brilliant… you’re there to make your customers stay relaxing and smooth. You run around after them. They do not run around after you!

Excellent staff customer service - easy checkin/checkout. Knowledgeable staff, we were given brilliant tips for the area and where to walk/avoid. Also pointed in direction of offers available at the pub for food & drink. Room was cosy but had enough space for the two of us. Fab bathroom space and shower. We ate on the first night in the restaurant and excellent service and food. Breakfast was plentiful and set us up for the day. Great coffee too - always a bonus. Happy morning staff, from kitchen, serving and cleaning team.
Leaving! At a push - our room was over the kitchen so the extractor fan being turned on in the morning does make a noise.

The Castle Inn is in a perfect location for exploring the local area. There is parking right outside. The building is traditional and beautifully maintained. The decor is fresh and tasteful. The staff were great from check in to check out. Nothing was too much trouble and all of our needs were catered for. Our room was beautiful, clean and well appointed. It had everything we needed for an overnight stay. The food was lovely and again the staff went above and beyond with their service. We had a great stay and would return any time.

The room is super comfortable, with nice decoration and lighting, creating a cosy atmosphere. The breakfast was amazing (there were many options), and the staff were accommodating (particularly with our late arrival).
I would say the only downside was the lack of sound-proofing in the bedroom - it was possible to hear noises from the pub downstairs and from other rooms (probably because of the age of the building). Despite the comfortable bed, I struggled to sleep well. Ear plugs would've been a good idea.

The Castle Inn is ideally located for touring the Jurassic Coast. The food, breakfasts and dinners, was excellent; much better than others in the area that we tried. Breakfast choices were extensive. Katie was very friendly and helpful and the chef Jimmy was talented. The room was very comfortable. The car park nearby was also very useful. They were also able to make me Bloody Marys which many establishments cannot and that helped to make my stay. Our family joined us for meals a couple of times and all enjoyed the food. Mind your head!

The gluten free food options were fantastic especially the fish and chips The staff were excellent The location - a 15 min walk to lulworth cove Free car parking - but see below
Confusing communication - on booking.com the hotel says there is no car parking The Butcombe loyalty birthday award - I still can't work out if this was applied. Its impossible to see this from the finalised bill Guys - honestly Mushy peas are not garden peas that have been bashed - mushy peas are totally different The landing and room were definitely in need of some TLC - lots of paint chips
