The hostel is in a beautiful building, well facilitated, very friendly staff, and a nice part of London. I used it for the night to see a gig in the O2 Academy which is just a 15/20 minute walk from here. Very convenient and the cheapest place to stay in London that I've ever found.

The only downside to this hostel in my experience, was how loud it was at night. It is in London of course which is very busy, the road was loud through the night which made it difficult to sleep, but they do at least give you free ear buds! Also not the hostels fault but there was a long term resident in my hostel dorm, a polish chap, he kept farting throughout the night which was at first funny but when you are awoken by the thunderous caverns of this man's anal cavity on the hour every hour it soon became not so funny. Please help this man to have a better diet and lifestyle. God speed.

Breakfast was well planed. There were several assortments of cereals and condiments to spread on the bread of your choice. Coffee, black tee and herbal tee and milk as well were always available. the kitchen was well equipped with gadgets (electric kettle, toaster etc.) a gas stove, cooking pans and utensils. There is a supermarket across the street which is open til late at night and several restaurants within a 2 min distance. Hostel is within walking (ca 10 min) distance from Brixton Underground station and several bus lines stop at the corner. The hostel was cleaned daily. It seems busier on weekends. I stayed for 10 days and never had problem with clealiness even during the busier days. I will likely stay here again when traveling to London.

I liked almost everything, but I have a few suggestions: There is a system that everyone has to label their food in the fridge, but I think many guest forget to clean out their leftovers when moving out, so I would suggest to the staff to ask residents to label with name, and moving-out-date, and a member of the staff to check on the fridges regularly and throw out leftovers before they could go bad. Also some selective trash bins and a wifi amplifier in the kitchen area would be a good touch.

They have a big pub downstairs, didn't go there but seems fun and popular with locals. A massive Sainsbury's across the road for grocery shop. It's a 15 min walk from the tube station but there are also bus stops by the door.

Breakfast too simple, there are lockers outside the rooms for small things, but your backpack won't be safe inside the room. There was this guy that seems to live there and one day he was playing loud music and was drunk and drinking inside the room, I didn't want to interact with him and was just ignoring but at some point he was like "HEY I'M TALKING TO YOU" and stared at me until I talked to him, so that can be annoying if he's always like that.

my second time staying at hootananny. brilliant location for anything you may need in brixton - you are a 10 minute walk from brixton tube station and a huge sainsbury's is across the street if you need a quick snack. i stayed here over the may bank holiday for a couple of nights and it was bouncing downstairs as they must've had an event on - i still slept like a log. great kitchen facilities, comfy beds, clean showers and many toilets, lovely balcony seating area next to the common room. very friendly staff at the front desk. not to mention, the price was extremely affordable - i paid £21 a night when i stayed and i couldn't have asked for anything else really.

This was my first time in a hostel, we were there for a club night so it was just easier & cheaper to stay at the venue. It was very friendly, everything was explained clearly. The facilities, kitchen, lockers, toilets etc. There's a big lounge with a balcony which is nice. It's such a handy place to stay if you're at an event there, but I'd imagine it might be a bit noisy with the music until 3am if you're sleeping. Would stay again if I was at another club night at Hootenanny, it's easy & a nice vibe. *Shout out to the lovely staff for posting my friends headphones back to him after leaving them in the dorm! The lockers were quite small so i couldn't fit all my stuff in, but I'm not used to hostels & definitely overpacked!

Super helpful staff, good facilities. Being able to come and go as you please is great. Free breakfast that runs from 6:30am to 11:30am, towel provided for showering, laundry, etc. Only stayed the night and didn't use everything, but you're totally covered for pretty much everything you could need. For the low price, there's a ridiculous array of quality facilities completely open to use. Position directly next to the bus station, with Brixton station just a walk down the road, was also super convenient.

Quite simply just the beds. The room was fine; quiet and cool, despite being shared bunks. The mattress just wasn't that comfortable for me, though - probably exacerbated by me just generally being a bit sore, but I only got about 4 or 5 hours of sleep after spending 1-2 hours trying.

Large communal kitchen, lounge and balcony spaces, well-appointed with utensils, entertainment and local information. Access and storage systems all very well-organised and secure. Overall, neat and clean accommodation, clearly well loved and respected by staff and guests alike.

Initially a little slow to welcome me at the bar, which was in full early evening flow. But, once in the hands of the hostel staff, I felt in safe and orderly hands. The Saturday night music, which I'd expected, was beating into the early hours of Sunday morning, but did not disturb me much.

Good comfortable beds, very warm and they even put available another heavy thick blanket next to you just in case. As the bed frame is metal, they clank a little bit but that's alright. The lockers are not big and are not inside the room but as they are for putting your valuables, they're more than enough. As to why they're not in the room, it is because of security as the lockers are under camera surveillance and that's great. They have cameras in all the areas and that is great (they even have one aimed at the kitchen fridges to stop food thieves). The staff is very friendly. There's a free earplug supply in the reception lobby that is great for the light sleepers in the party nights the pub has (located underneath the hostel). The breakfast times are very extended so it allows big flexibility on vacation day planning!

The shower could be hotter but that's just a personal preference, so it's totally okay!

The location is near the Brixton underground station, under the hostel there is a lively venue with a wide set of music performances. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beds are relatively comfortable and the general stay is a great value for the money spent. They offer free towels, earplugs and basic breakfast. The hostel has a separate side entrance, which makes getting in and out a breeze. There is also a Sainsbury's across the road and a fridge / boxes in the kitchen where you can store your groceries.

The showers weren't the cleanest and they didn't have locks on them. Some beds are extremely squeaky, which makes it close to impossible to get up onto the top bunk without waking up the person underneath. The room also had poor lighting - there was just 1 weak light right above one of the beds.

Hootananny Hostel is a fun and energetic place to stay, especially if you're looking to meet new people and enjoy live music. The atmosphere is social and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and laid-back. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable enough for a short stay. The bar downstairs adds a unique vibe, and there’s often great entertainment in the evenings. The location is well-connected by public transport, making it easy to get into central London.
